  • I decided to compare the difference in developing film with instant coffee vs espresso. So here are the results. I shot TMAX 100 on the RB67 for both of these rolls.
    00:10 setup
    04:55 recipes
    09:15 instant coffee results
    10:32 espresso results

    You've blown my mind! I didn't think the film could be developed using coffee. I've learned something new today. In addition, the images turned out great. Good job.

      Look up ' Caffenol ' developer recipe. Instant coffee, Vitamin C tablet, Pure water, washing soda.

    I remember someone telling me to get the most absolute trash ass instant coffee, literal dust if possible, they claimed it produced the best results lol.

      .... that is a very interesting claim and now you have me curious.

    The espresso looks great! I'd love to be able to figure out the time/temperature to pour the industrial consumer drip coffee I don't drink during work into the dev tank and get good images. As you pointed out using espresso doesn't really save you anything, but using the un-drank pot of drip coffee from the bunn coffee maker at work could at least get some use out of it.

      thanks! I'm pretty happy with with the results. Yeah eventually ill experiment with time and drip coffee to see how long it takes to get a normal development with it. assuming I will have to greatly increase the time. the tricky part about coffee from work is you don't know what roast it is or if its fresh ground or been ground and sitting on a shelf for months. That makes it very hard to gauge the caffeic acid content etc for development. its definitely worth trying though. just gambling with the film is the tough part.

      @@graham_white makes sense, good news is we buy all the same coffee every couple of months, but that it just sits around is a problem. I just hate to be going home and see several cups of coffee sitting in the pot.

      @@lvikng57 try it! Im sure it will work you just need to figure out the amount of time for development and then it may deteriorate to much if you wait more than a day or so.

    I just got a bulk load of BW film, might have to try this! You wouldn't be able to a review on the Minolta srt series cameras? I have a 303 love it so much. Minnie is in the shop at the moment and I feel lost without her lol

      The SR-T line is so great. I have a 101b myself (although she needs a CLA) and it just feels so sturdy and solid. The SR-T was also a rather significant camera in terms of SLR development, as it was one of the first to utilize open-aperture metering (which Nikon would later implement in a near-identical manner with their AI lenses) and the CLC system was the first venture into primitive matrix metering.
      I'm glad your 303 is being taken good care of! Many consider it to be the best model of the line-up. Minolta were so innovative, it's such a shame they didn't get to remain in the photo industry.

      @@painovoimaton That's awesome! Thanks for the info dude. I don't know much about them at all. I just know they're built like tanks and she does exactly what I want. Can't ask for a better camera (for me). Mine's getting a complete overhaul so she'll be good to go for another decade or more at least

    did you use a normal stopper and fixer? might it be posible to also use household items for that too? : )

    • @graham_white
      @graham_white  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Used normal ones I suppose so I haven’t researched any into that though

    • @painovoimaton
      @painovoimaton 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could definitely make stop baths out of a wide variety of acidic household products. I'm not sure what would work best, but even something like a diluted white vinegar or lemon juice would probably do the trick quite well.
      As for fixers, I doubt that would be so simple and would likely require stuff you can't get from the grocery store.

    I dont have a film tank... do you think I can just dunk a whole roll of film in coffee?

    • @graham_white
      @graham_white  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately no. They aren’t expensive but they are important for proper development.

    what kind of espresso costs 5 dollars a shot lol

    • @graham_white
      @graham_white  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe I meant per photo cause of the amount of espresso needed? Cause ya doing the math 5 is crazy ha. Not sure where I said that. Like 2.50/3 if you buy straight from the coffee shop. Unless your getting some super limited origin ha.
