Weirdly enough this is a family movie here, I remember being 8 and watching this with my family. People got emotional and understood the message but sadly I think not as many were able to put it to use. People still struggle with identifying, empowering special needs people and still see it as a taboo rather than seeing them for their unique potentials and POVs when given proper guidance.
Same!! we all have watched it during our childhood and some school took their students on trip to watch it too. Also agree because ishan's character eventually became more of a joke for people who aren't toppers instead of being inspiration for adults to see and try to understand the true problems....it takes more than a movie to make that kinda change I guess

In my school, we had an activity period in primary section..And on that period, we either watch movies or do some activity(Different from Art period where u specifically draw and make crafts)..
And this movie was put on..I remember..the period ended before the movie..so I went home and watched the rest of it

But I've seen some amazing film from your country. 3 Idiots, Taare Zameen Par, Dear Zindagi, A movie I forgot the name of It was about a small Pakistani girl who got lost in India and was taken care of by an Indian and returned to Pakistan.

"Bhaag Milkha bhaag" is a sports movie which I would recommend.
This is the reality of Asian education. It is just that thriving to be the best is engrained in Asian kids from the beginning. It is tough, sure. However, if not for that system, there wouldn't be Chinese, Indian, Japanese and other Asians dominating the STEM field in the western world.

Your Dad is so relatable. His insights are so meaningful. India as a society always is really bonded with their parents. The opinions of our parents are taken very very strongly and seriously by the youth. I am not saying children in the west are less attached to their parents. Not at all. But the way we respect elders is very very different from the west. Our parents are the karta dharta, our guiding lights, a part that is always going to be their in our lives, our kids' lives and theirs' after that. We even do shrads (paying homage to our ancesters). And even emotionally we are much more attached to ours families. You'll see why we have so many Joint Families here. It's hard to put in words. But you should know, that the people in this comment section truly did revere Uncle's (your Dad's) experience and felt for him and his life experiences, when he spoke. This reaction is, that's why, all the more beautiful. Your Dad and you bonding, and him sharing his experiences with you, is just very very gold. I'm from India and I know, Indian education system is very harsh. There is a cut throat competition to even get admission in the college, you have defeat a million of students to get best engineering and medical college for bachelors and masters degree.
And the syllabus? Well the 12th standard (the last standard of school in India) physics syllabus is actually first year engineering syllabus of Australia.
And 2 years ago, an Australian student came to take admission in IIT (same as MIT of America) but returned after seeing the competition for admission.
And it's a saying in colleges of India for foreign students-
You have to be good in the subject before the teacher teaches you about it 😂😂

Hard to believe this movie came out over 15 years ago. Things have changed in many areas, there is awareness and the physical harm to students has reduced, atleast in most urban areas. I remember the (then) Prime Minister of India got emotional and cried watching this movie.

For people maybe but the one who wrote it might wanna question the religion door keepers rather than the faith on Gods. there's a lot of example in history how people manipulated mass using religion as weapons. I have always seen a very tight knit family behind the brother sister bond of Efra and Waleska, how freely they can run their TH-cam channels and the support of the family. I always found their reviews an insight to how they are as people, so open minded kind and compassionate. I saw how deeply they understand music and vocals and instruments, and I found honed natural intelligence shining through.
