That’s because The Sound back then were only popular in The Netherlands, where this video is also from. They were (almost criminally) ignored by the UK press, that’s why they didn’t get any attention in the USA either…
Without any doubt one of the most populair new wave bands in Holland in the 80"s Rellay under rated, still enjoying them today. Great to see that there is still a heritage of material!! Keep up th egood work, RIP Adrian
I was there too! Unforgettable. Adrian was unique. Great band, lyrics and sound. That time when music came straight out of the heart instead of a PC... R.i.p .Adrian Borland
Yes broadcasted twice by dutch radiostation Vara in the show vara's Poppodium on Dutch Radio 3. , First broadcast had three sound-songs, one week after parkpop, On july 14th 1987 in Vara's Poppodium 25 minutes of this show with the songs: sense of purpose, prove me wrong, total recall, iron years, hand of love, where the love is and I give you pain. (i still got the tape!!)
I like how he puts it at the end of the interview, that it takes a "cynical mind" to deliberately write a hit song. Look at the top 40 these days. Almost every "hit" resembles that comment.
Wonderful thrusting, driving song...drives right the way through...what a great rock song should be about. Still sounds as fresh and powerful 30 years later....
It appears that this is the final list played: 1.Acceleration Group 2.Sense of Purpose 3.Prove Me Wrong 4.Total Recall 5.Iron Years 6.Hand of Love 7.Where the Love Is 8.I Give You Pain 9.Kinetic 10.Golden Soldiers Encores: 11.Winning 12.Resistance Note: visible on setlist is Shut Up And Shut Down , but not played.
Thank you so much for posting this. Do you have any other interviews with Adrian? Its nice seeing him so happy. I only got into the Sound a few years back, but they are my favourite band. Amazing records.
I got Thunder up. Lion's mouth nowhere to be found except online and quite expensive. Adrian looks happy and jolly here. In the Philippines 1987, only total recall came out there. The rest I learned here in Canada just lately around 5 yrs. now. Nice upload thanks. R.I.P Adrian. In the 80's new wave was very big in the Philippines; If only they've released In the Lions mouth there, they would have been popular and made money. There were 75 million Filipinos then and now.
I alwayskeep coming back to this video. Adrian´s disappointment and the sense of impending doom for his band is palpable here, and every struggling artist should see this video ... Things might never pick up for you!
Dude if you're gonna look at things that way, you're always gonna be a struggling one! It's true that Adrian was disappointed with the music industry but he's not the only one in that position, it's just too bad he committed suicide, he'd have had success if he could have kept on going, that's what you should look at
12 songs on setlist. 1. Acceleration Group 2. ??? (Sense Of Purpose?) 3. Prove Me Wrong 4. Shot Up And Shut Down 5. Total Recall 6. Iron Years 7. ??? (Winning?) 8. Where The Love Is 9. I Give You Pain 10. Kinetic 11. Golden Soldiers 12. Resistance (encore) Anyone with additions? Can't find and remember if this show was ever broadcast on radio.
simple, nice, honest, talented and ahead of his time. Adrian was a great guy.
Great songwriter with a wonderful voice, very passionate artist.
the best band that ever walked this planet,we will always love the sound
He seemed such a nice chap how sad his life ended in such tragic circumstances.
What a gentleman Adrian Borland was.
RIP Adrian Borland cheers!
It's been 21 years without him. Miss him dearly. Wonderful artist and such a nice person, too.
Saw them at Parkpop. Best british band in the 80's.Adrian was a great musician.
I just read the book about him , life and times of adrian borland ) knew alot about the sound and him but was really suprised that he had a son
wow, I need to read his book, I never heard of this until now either
Greatest Post/Punk band
The guy who is interviewing Adrian is really good
THANK YOU! thank you everyone that uploads new sound content. it sickens me that adrian is not a household name. he was a genius.
My favourite band ever!
I listened to KROQ faithfully all through the 80s. How in the world did I miss these guys???
That’s because The Sound back then were only popular in The Netherlands, where this video is also from. They were (almost criminally) ignored by the UK press, that’s why they didn’t get any attention in the USA either…
This is utterly brilliant. Thanks to Martin Popoff of Sea of Tranquility and the Contrarians for getting me here. RIP Adrian Boland
Still LOVE. The Sound. Such a pitty Adrian is gone ... 😪
Adrian seems like a cool guy
Late to The Sound and Adrian’s talent yet he was clearly behind almost everything I WAS into during the 80s. Talented man.
Without any doubt one of the most populair new wave bands in Holland in the 80"s
Rellay under rated, still enjoying them today.

Wow, I was at that concert and I think I saw myself in the crowd! :-)
Saw The Sound 3 or 4 times. Great, great band.

Seemed so down to earth and humbler. Very admirable along with his amazing music.
Wat een geweldige band! Echt voor mij nog steeds nummer 1 . Zo jammer dat hij er niet meer is 😒
Wish i could've met him 💔💔💔💔
in my top 10

I always found the sound better than U2
Peter Jansen
A documentary is in the making: facebook.com/AdrianBorlandDocumentary?fref=ts
Very correct. Adrian died too early..
Peter Jansen that it's like saying: "In my very personal opinion chocolate tastes better than shit".
The Sound is a million times better than U2
the more I listen to their body of work, the more I agree. Adrian never lost that ability to connect, so authentic and real.. why did he leave us :'(
Wonderful thrusting, driving song...drives right the way through...what a great rock song should be about. Still sounds as fresh and powerful 30 years later....

Now 13 years ago that this very sad day took place, the day when we lost one of the greatest musicians that ever walked the earth.
Love it

this is a great document! Thanx!
ものすごく優しい笑顔だ。
The reason why great artists aren’t recognized is because society needs to get educated!!!!!!!
Atleast he’s recognized by the real ones:)

Upoo
@@fatherpaulstone896 u to !
that first song has kinda the same groove as "rockin in the free world"
Bewijs dat parkpop niet altijd shit is geweest!
Adrian looks like Alex Jones lol
Who?
💀
He reminds me of Christopher Hitchens in appearance.
Wouldve ditched the keyboards. Took away from the rawness that was in the music.
Why? Take away the atmospheric layers just be another bog standard indie alt rock band then tge synthetic added the depth
I like the synth in almost all of their songs tbh
