    It is an incredible album, but no surprise. He is the most talented songwriter working right now. The 400 Unit is a fantastic band.

      @@phishphan5732 Those are big shoes saying that Isbell is better than Springsteen. I'm not prepared to say that, but I can say that Isbell is a worthy descendant of the Springsteen line of singer-songwriters. There would be no Southeastern without Nebraska.

    I felt like MIles was a love-letter to everything that has influenced him. It sounds to me like Jason's on his Les Paul and Sadler's got his Rickenbacker going - so half Neil Young and half Tom Petty. Then the outro feels very Beatles meets ELO meets Decemberists. (The latter would be more peers than influences - still gives me that feel though.) All the while it's still true to Isbell & the 400 Unit.
    I'd say overall this is one of Jason's strongest albums. It gets a little bogged down in spots but pulls itself out. Can't wait to hear some of these live, as Jason and the band are one of the best live acts around today.

      This Ain't It stands out to me, too.
      "Oh baby how'd you end up here?
      In a Texas town with a wedding gown and a near-beer"
      What an opening line. Tells a long story in two sentences, setting up the rest of the song perfectly. Also I can't wait to hear live versions of it - I guarantee Sadler & Jason are gonna continue their guitar bromance trading licks on that one. 🤘🏻

    I have been into Jason and his journey from Truckers to current triumphs . I was heavy into the 400 live stuff , I would listen to his Van cover of Into the Mystic on repeat , God Damn Lonely Love , then that triumph , perfection of Cover Me Up up to Last of My Kind . I think Middle of the Morning is very Van Morrison , didn’t hear Fleetwood too much .

    I do like that you appreciate the musician ship this band has. This is what hooked me the first time I saw them live. I grew up listening to classic rock, folk and country with my family. Although i haven't been able to witness some of the great classic rock bands in their prime, I feel this may be one of the tightest groups and lyrics we'll see. I feel they could eventually get up there with Springsteen and E street if they all stick it out. "Miles" to me had more of a Petty/Beatles mix to it. I Think his influences really came out on this album and i love it.

    Speaking of Jason and Ryan Adams…it’s pretty shitty how Isbell dropped his friend through the hard times. Instead of helping him through it, he turned his back on him. Jason has a history of doing this.

    • @DudeAbides1969
      @DudeAbides1969 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. He keeps calling Ryan Adams his buddy. Pretty sure it's the complete opposite of that. The review is a little over the top. Good album, but nowhere near his best.

      In 2013 he was his friend. That’s the context of the statement. I know their friendship has fallen out…as for over the top, I just like to keep the channel focused on things I like. Glad you enjoyed the record.

    • @thebeatsessions8294
      @thebeatsessions8294  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a tough one, man, and you’re correct on a number of levels. I’ve heard people argue that Jason’s sobriety has made him a bit highfalutin, and that may be true, but often times people cross lines that are irreconcilable. I don’t know what either of these guys feel but I do know that, has I’ve gotten older, I’ve cut a fair number of people out of my life because of their toxic behavior. When does a friend become a sinking ship and why should anyone go down with it? I don’t know man. I feel it’s up to each individual to judge who is welcome at their table.

    • @BoldBuccleuch
      @BoldBuccleuch ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thebeatsessions8294 he not only dropped Ryan Adams, he treated Morgan Wallen the exact same way when he was “cancelled” in what was an over the top fake outrage over an incident that had zero to do with racism. Cancel culture is just a fad and weakminded people jump on board so they can signal that they espouse these same virtues and silently pray they don’t get cancelled as well. Wallen wasn’t significantly impacted by it, but Jason talked shit about him and treated him as a disposable friend/acquaintance. So goes the mindset of the typical liberal, little to no morals and everyone must think like they think and do what they say. I would never trust Jason enough to call him a friend (not that I’d ever be in that position), I’d be very wary.
