Ice Plant Carpobrotus edulis // Invasive Crafted Species

  • Today, I'm showing how to sculpt the Ice Plant.
    This plant is so beautiful, that many people want to have it at home. What they don’t know is that if this plant is released into the wild, it becomes an invasive species and causes a serious damage to the environment.
    So, if you like it, craft it!
    I made this tutorial for www.invasivecra... to bring awareness to this issue. You can visit their website for more tutorials and also a chance to win the crafted plants.

    I love your message at the end!!!! I hope people know that it is very important not to disturb the ecosystems they encounter.

    Thank you for making this about spreading awareness about invasive plants. We have those all along the coast here in California and they have taken over the entire coastline.

    I asked myself, "What is an Ice Plant?" As I watched the video, I realised that it is an invasive plant in France. In Canada we have many invasive plants that should be eradicated. Broom is one of them. Every year in my area teams of people pull out Broom plants. It is a never ending job! These plants came from Great Britain, and do not belong in Canada. You are quite right! People should not disturb ecosystems, nor should they bring alien plants into another country! ~Janet in Canada

    I have a similar-looking succulent plant in my garden in Australia, but the pretty flowers are smaller - the foliage hangs over the side of the pot with my one.

    • @PetroicaRodinogaster264
      @PetroicaRodinogaster264 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have the same species as she does but here in Australia we call it pigface. There are two kinds, Carpobrotus Edulis is ...one with large stems and large ‘ spongey leaves’ and really big flowers and ,
      Carpobrotus Rossii is the one with much smaller flowers and smaller stems and leaves. This is the one you sound like you have.
      They both make good ground covers on rockeries etc and also the small in pots as you have. It grows very easily from a piece. Flowers are very pretty. Here in Australia the small one it is not a problem as far as I am aware. It is easily eradicated but the larger one is often used around sand dunes to help stop wind erosion. However it is frowned on as it is believed it does more to assist erosion than stop it. many nurseries here sell the small one.
      If youGoogle search carpobrotus rossii you can read all about it.

      The best thing is what you'd like to make. As with anything, you will need some patience when you start something new, so picking a project you like is the way to keep you motivated.

      diese Pflanze ist eine invasive Art, schön aber nicht so toll wenn man sie mit nach Hause bringt, denn dann breitet sie sich sehr schnell aus, was nicht so gut für die Umwelt ist. :) mehr info is dann auf invasiveCraftedSpecies.com
