NOTIFICATION SQUAD: If I hadn't seen this hot spring water with my own eyes, I'm not sure I'd have believed it was even real. Tsuru no Yu onsen really is on another level. Amazing to be back in Akita after our ill-fated stint on Journey Across Japan in the area! At last on this trip we could do the region justice, by rolling in some snow and splashing around in a hot spring. Away we go 🍻
There are so many reasons to go to Akita between yours and Sharla’s channel. I wish I could just live there for a month and experience everything. Thanks for the video and for sharing all the hidden gems of the North. I’ve never been interested in the city or shopping and what-have-you of Tokyo much (although I know there are beautiful places). I’m mainly in it for the food. So your channel has always appealed to me. I hope you guys never stop showing all North Japan has to offer. There’s nowhere else I’d rather go for my first trip now, and I couldn’t be more excited for when that day finally comes.😊
I appreciate your perspective on the mixed gender onsen! Knowing that there's a way for women to get in the bath more discreetly definitely makes me feel more comfortable.
What commercial? Ah I checked back OK, I see. You meant the challenge with AnimeMan. Oh ok so those are the same prefectures. Interesting! Did they offer you this collab cause they were so impressed with the last video? 😅
As a finn i am happy Japan has adopted the sauna culture in its traditional form. It is really amazing how two completely different cultures half a globe apart are so similar and enjoy the same things like harmony and nature.
As a finnish sauna loving man i can APPROVE this tent sauna being more legit than some hotels have cos they dont even let you trow water LOL. You even have some proper finnish "vihta" at 4:58 and yes you did it right. Only they need to be fresh or atleast well soked, not dry as a mommy.

@b5fie I have a feeling a lot of people who watch this channel use those units, more than 5% I also like to help get people use to it, like when your learning a new language they put the word in your lanague and the one your learning to help.
Seems like Akita people have delved into Finnish culture of saunas. I've seen no other country adapting the Finnish leaf whisk. I approve of this sauna experience.
At least parts of Sweden or some Swedes use the leaf whisk too :) I can't remember how it was when I went to the sauna in Estonia, they might use it there too.
I think Estonians do it too. I'm glad to see they're allowed to throw water on the rocks & there's a lake right outside for a plunge, because those are things in Finnish sauna culture I don't think Japanese have taken into too much yet.

Totally fangirled seeing you admire the Naraoka pottery at 9:40. I taught English to the man who runs it when I was a JET in Akita and we got to make some of our own in his studio. It's famous for the blue colour which is totally natural coming from the firing process. Super cool! Also the stew at 19:13 looks like kiritanpo nabe, an Akita specialty!

In 2016, your "Ryokan" video with Ryotoro, and Sharla's 2016 video on Tsuru no Yu were my very first hardcore "I need to go there, and I need to do this (visit an onsen) before I die." And last month I finally achieved it. 🥳 I didn't visit either of the onsen you made videos on, but the one I chose was still beautiful. Thanks, Chris.

Seeing Sharla grab your arm in the snow when you first got there while you took in the *sigh* Enchanting view of the village, was really adorable. You two really seem to have fun with everything you do even though you're still kind of working to bring us these beautiful adventures as well. Thank you for taking us along.

Awww, you tried out my childhood (and that of so many other Finns). 💙 I haven't done snow diving from sauna as an adult anymore, but when I was a kid it definitely was a thing. This was such a wonderful video. I’m really surprised you didn’t put it on the main channel. That onsen was absolutely gorgeous and I loved how cozy everything felt. Don’t mind me swooning over Sharla grabbing Chris’.

One of my very favorite things to do in the winter as a child was to sit in the hot tub for a while, then run into the woods and roll around in the snow, then get back in the hot tub. It would make you feel all weird and tingly and was a lot of fun for some reason. Children are strange.
Thank you for showcasing the Tazawako area. I always love hanging around there (especially in the summer time). I hope you can do another adventure with our friend Quinlin soon :). Thanks for all your hard work
Please visit Taenoyu onsen next time! Tsurunoyu is always the Nyutou onsen shown in TH-cam videos, but Taenoyu and the other Nyutou onsen are amazing too! Hands down the actual onsen in Taenoyu are better than Tsurunoyu, imo 😊 the interior of the building is incredible too, lots of dimly lit wooden corridors and the mixed gender "infinity pool" style onsen overlooking the flowing river is amazing 😍 the food is also exceptional and you're treated like royalty by the staff! One of their 7 baths in particular at Taenoyu, is outside and small, pebbles on the bottom and faces an old, moss covered tree, and at the base of the tree's trunk is a little statue that gives super Ghibli vibes when you notice it, like a little spirit watching you as you bathe haha, it took me by surprise at first! Also the fact you can "onsen hop" with the special pass and the little shuttle bus with the onsen barrel on it's roof are highlights of the Nyutou onsen region!

As a finn, I am proud of the Japanese making all the saunas around their country.
Makes it 100 times more livable as a finn.
In the kindest possible way, I wanted to let Chris know that the way to say Hearth is "Harth".
P.s. Long time subscriber to Chris and also a slightly shorter time for Sharla but watch her videos a long time back, too. And semi regular visitor to Japan for work and then for holidays, because I love it so much (I'm on my 6th time and want to come back to visit the very north). Japan is literally the place i tell everyone they have to go despite the flight costs there from the UK. It's worth it. So please let me stay, I promise to be a good boy and not interrupt again.
Thank you for posting this! It's actually hilarious how uncommon the word is in general but how many times the word shows up in this specific video. 😂
You guys are so sweet and funny!
Gathering ideas for my trip to North Japan next year. I'm inspired to explore that region more after watching both your videos for a while.
Wow, so wholesome and classy. Sharla is stepping up your adult game.Of course when she was talking about how expensive the renovation on her house was going to be I could see Chris's mind tweak. Always wonderful to see Sharlas beautiful smile. Great video.
Great informative video, you both make a lovely couple. You both always give great ideas of places to see in Japan. Always enjoy watching your videos on both channels
Absolutely fabulous! Thanks for taking us along for the ride - the hot spring looks stunning!
