Not even Super Junior or Big Bang could beat those times when they are competing with each other!.. They really are at the TOP, I'd say The Beatles level.. too bad, SM mismanaged them. so yeah.. a little kpop history for you guys.
It's amazing how kpop has come along way but there's just a certain charm in the 2nd gen kpop, probably the tacky fashion and hairstyle, I feel like back then they were less afraid to experiment artistically, which is why their music videos were super captivating at their time. Also I feel like back then groups have more identity, maybe because conceptually they are so different from one another. I'm glad to see a more modernized kpop, but I miss the 'experimental' aspect. Most of the styling feels to safe nowadays, they are too polished I feel. I don't know how to express with words, but if you know what I'm talking about, you know it.
i think it has to do a lot with the fact that back then the fashion and music style was mostly influenced by various asian subcultures of the time whereas nowadays kpop is way more influenced by western mainstream culture and streetwear fashion, just look at the new sm groups. i still like them but theres nothing like the unique feeling that 2nd gen kpop had

Back then they have an identity that is so significant to kpop. Fashion wise they have a lot of Asian streetstyle influence as you said, something harajuku. I feel like lately they are playing it safe. But kpop is still very enjoyable tho, just not at the level when 2nd wave started to take over.
