Every accessible outdoor location is subject to the worst of human behavior. This location was the worst. Rattlesnake is very close. And I hate to say it, but it's a certain demographics that seems to be the most careless, trashing our outdoor places.
I hate to say it, but we're better off when these outdoor gems are less accessible and require effort, preparation and knowledge to get there. Crappy, pot hole ridden forest roads with little maintenance that require high clearance vehicles to get to trailheads? YES PLEASE. The more this is the case, the better.
I hiked Denny Creek on the weekend and when I came down I still had enough time to hike up to Franklin Falls. The amount of outright moronic people walking there with sneakers on snow and ice, some even having infants strapped to their body while barely able to keep their balance... Insanity. Again: I hate to say it. The outdoors should not be for everybody - only for those who respect its beauty and come prepared, not endangering themselves and others.
