Retired printer here: I always used a PMS (Pantone) color swatch book to mix inks so when a call to make more, the exact formula for each color to add was always available....
Wow that’s cool. I do measure as I’m putting it together but hitting the same exact shade again is tough. I don’t have the level of precision needed. I can get close though. The PMS is fascinating though. I bet printing was fun!!! Thanks for the info!
Gorgeous paint colours, looks like those Createx paints gives a lot of colour choice for models. I must admit though I'm not too keen on 2K clear coats, due to the health risks associated with it, even with using respirator, gloves, and spray booth.
Yeah I don’t blame you there. 2K is nasty stuff. You can get pretty good with a 1k. I keep looking for a water based clear that will give the same finish and that you can polish but haven’t found it yet. Thanks for the post - safety is very important.
The paint coats are about 10-15 mins and then about 30 minutes before clear. I’ll still the bodies in a dehydrator for an hour and then let them sit overnight minimum. Decals take a while to cure. Then the first coat of clear has to be a light coat just in case and to seal them up. Then the additional clear layers are heavier. That’s coming up soon!
That was the UVLS clear. You mix that with the created paint per their data sheet at 10%. It transforms the paint to an acrylic polyurethane so it will adhere to hard surfaces better. Then the 4011 thinner goes in at 10-25%. Then it all has to sit for 10 minutes to acclimate. If you don’t let it sit it sprays poorly.
First of all I love this series as that gen of Firebirds are some of my favorite pony cars. Very nice choice of colors too. I am, however concerned for your health. I love 2K clears, I don't think there is anything better suited for reproducing a great finish on a model but isn't the stuff is notoriously bad for you. I can see your are not wearing gloves and hear you speaking without a respirator. Your spray booth, like mine, can't cope with the fumes as I can see them in the light being sucked in by the fan. Problem is we have to open up the AB and its take a minute for the fan to clear these. That can't be good for you, please stay safe.
Thanks very much. I have done some research and you are correct. 2K is pretty nasty stuff. I am wearing a respirator during the video but I shift it to the side when I’m speaking. Then I put it back. I also don’t video the 2k getting sprayed very often for that reason. Thanks very much for the post and bringing up this point. Safety is important!!
Awesome work angelo i cant wait to see these bad boys all done up side by side

What air pressure do you use to paint
@@iancameron198 I like about 30psi because I like my paint a little thicker.
Where do you buy your 2K clear coat

@@AngelosWorkbench I've seen someone use Decoart Duraclear acrylic polyeurathane for a gloss coat, and they seem to have had good results with it.
Angelo, how long you wait in between paint coats, and how long after placing your decals, do you wait for laying the last 3-4 layers of clear coat?

Hi... two are better than one! I don't know if you say it, but what 2K do you use?
Thank you.
What was that you added after mixing the paint, a thinner or paint retarder?
