Thanks for this... Lost my Dad a 1 1/2 years ago... I am 53 and I am still telling people "My Dad taught me". Bring your Dad back for more, he is awesome!
Seems like a really nice man!! Lost my pops at young age and just watching you enjoy time with your old man really makes me happy!! It's far to easy to take for granted the time we have with each other and refreshing to see you not doing that!
What joy to watch a a father and son do something together. My father is currently battling cancer and his life seems to deteriorate a bit each week so its nice to see this vid and remind me of things I did with Pop.
I doubt if I will need to split cedar shakes anytime soon. But I must say this is the most interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable video you’ve made. And that’s saying a lot! Very well done! Thanks!
That was such a special treat! Do more of these. We now know where you get skill and attention to detail. Your Dad is truly a gifted craftsman and is a natural in front of the camera! Thanks for sharing! We can learn so much from our elders if we just listen.
Your dad is pretty cool. Cherish every moment you have with him and absorb everything he has to offer. I can see that the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Heritage and family are so important. Kudos to you for honoring your father.
I love building with my Dad, they are some of my best memories....He's not as capable as he use to be but I still love doing projects with him because his knowledge is so vast, I just listen and do more of the work now.
Loved this father and son moment and what a beautiful spot. Made me nostalgic for western Canada. In my distant youth I spent some time on (and just off) Vancouver Island doing some plastering (dry walling) and putting shingles on a new build (it was a "grand tour" job aka work I picked up while hitch-hiking :D).
Man that was awesome! What a great dad. I see where you got your work ethic from. Lucky to have such a great dad. Skilled craftsman are the best. You guys work together very nice. Great to see.
You can see the admiration you have for your dad! The respect there is evident, and the way you interact with your son he will have that respect for you tenfold! Cool build!
Lost my dad almost 2 years ago...was an engineer by trade; but, a woodworker by hobby. He’d have loved this. Cherish your dad, and give him his own channel!
I worked a few years in my younger days (in the late 80's) making shingles and shakes in cedar mills. I miss the camaraderie of 3-4 guys working together to make a product, but I miss the smell of cedar sawdust more than anything. And yeah, we rarely saw wood that good. Thanks for posting this.
Dad is a true craftsman of the old school and a natural in front of the camera We might not all end up splitting shakes but he certainly has a lot of skills that might inspire us amateurs. I hope we will get to see more
Don’t you just wish all your neighbors were guys like this? Seems like not only a talented family, but good family too. Thanks for making these informative and highly entertaining videos.
Its pretty obvious your Dad has a wealth of knowledge and experience that needs to be documented. Both of you collaborating is a no brainer. Great work both of you. Thanks
could watch these vids like this all day. So much knowledge in ppl older than us . Give your pops a hug and tell him you love him next time you see him. Wish i could mine.. Dads are not here forever. Awesome vid!!!!!
Loved this video. I'd like it a thousand times if I could. Lost my dad to brain cancer a couple years ago. Can hardly wait to see him again when Jesus takes me home.
A heart felt father and son video. Thank You for sharing. Your dad could be easily become the Bob Ross of construction. Please make many more videos with him.
That. Was. Awesome!!! I remember how much I enjoyed woodwork in 8th grade, and metal work. It was called wood shop and metal shop . The two were literally next door to eachother. The first thing I learned to make was a coat hanger. It was great. I filed a scalloped edge and stained it after. This was when school was a great place to be. Your dad was great for doing this. Thank you to him so much, and that you for showing.
Your dad seems like such an awesome down to earth dude and super skilled. This video was super interesting, he makes that look so easy. Learn everything you can from your dad and be sure to let him know how much you appreciate him. My dad taught me a lot about basic construction and repair but he passed away from cancer a couple years ago and I really miss all his advice and knowledge he would share with me.
Ok, I’ve watched a lot of stuff on TH-cam and hands down, this is the coolest video I’ve seen. I could watch your dad split wood all day. Just super calming and mesmerizing. He’s like the Bob Ross of wood-splitting. Thanks for sharing Ben. I also wanted to say, you’re dad made it look so easy. Watching you struggle a little bit made me think “now he knows how the rest of us feel watching his videos and then trying to do the same work and it doesn’t turn out nearly as nice as his.”
This video is amazing. Made me want to do this with my son in the future. All I kept thinking was how much joy dad must have felt building that with his son.
I'm glad you mentioned this in your other video, as I do think it is one of your best. The two of you are outstanding craftsmen, and your close relationship is a joy to see. Your children certainly have two outstanding men in their lives to look up to and learn from.
Very easy to see that your dad is a natural in front of the camera. He obviously has many talents and knowledge. I did notice he holds his hammer very far up the handle ..... he was have a strong arm. Love the rustic life style he lives.
I've seen a lot of tricks but not exactly like this! I mean sure most of us have split fire wood but to split out almost perfect boards is amazing! Beautiful place there as well!
Your dad is a cool dude! We have to take care of the old master while they are still around. I consider my dad to be one of the masters as well, he is an old time carpenter and an architect and I am lucky that we get to work together so I can learn as much as possible from him.
Can’t believe I’m just seeing this one! Love this, Ben I’m sure you feel the same, but I’m 40 and still learn so much from my Dad. I feel like I have a lot of knowledge, but seems like I only know about 25% of what my Dad knows. Your Dad is a natural on camera! His calm way of going about business is relaxing and educational!!
Your Dad is so cool! Lovely to see a Tasmanian tree fern in the garden. (I am from Australia - Victoria, but love Tassie). How idyllic to live by the water.
I really enjoyed this video with the father and son interaction. That's how things continue through time when we learn from our elders. Although I'm a woman, I learned a lot of what I know from my father...and of course TH-cam! lol I learned something new today too so thank you! And now I see where you got you looks....you look just like your dad! 😉
You’ve allowed me to recall one of the few pleasant memories I have of growing up in Rochester, NY, which is when we would leave NY and go across the lake to Canada to visit. Your dad is awesome. You’re pretty great and very helpful in my current bathroom renovation. I love your accents. The scenery is beautiful. The playhouse turned out great! And learning new things is always a joy. Thank you for a great video!
❤️ your dad! Hope you can collab again! He shouldn’t worry about being a plant nerd, I would love for him to recommend some plants for my yard (Edmonton, AB)!
"Seaglass" Verre de Mer turned out just beautiful! That was so interesting to see how your Dad crafted shakes out of cedar/driftwood that just turns up on his shore. Landscaping and gardening are my first loves, and his stonework is exceptional. Those Ferns on the hillside were stunning! I can see where you get your easygoing attitude from Ben - you're a chip off the old block. :) Thanks so much sharing. I really enjoyed this video.
I vote that Ben start a channel for his dad that’s just all old-school woodworking tips and projects like this. I’d watch that for days.
that would be awesome. dry stacking stone like that is almost a lost art here in the states. I would love to learn more about that.
Sam Scribner I add my voice to yours.
And his dad is great in front of the camera already and explain things very very well.
Also subs overlay whenever dad mentions the names of certain tools or techniques that are not common words.
Alright dude, if he does that make sure you let me know, cuz I'll subscribe.
Ben should add this as a patreon goal
Hearing the calmness of two Canadians together, it’s amazing.
Dad and son building a playhouse and sharing some knowledge, doesn't get much better than that. Also dad is a natural in front of the camera!
He's a natural on the video. Id love to see more dad videos with lots of dad jokes and dad knowledge. Awesome video!
Thanks for this... Lost my Dad a 1 1/2 years ago... I am 53 and I am still telling people "My Dad taught me". Bring your Dad back for more, he is awesome!
He passed you the torch, time to kick it into high gear!
Seems like a really nice man!! Lost my pops at young age and just watching you enjoy time with your old man really makes me happy!! It's far to easy to take for granted the time we have with each other and refreshing to see you not doing that!
This video is too damn wholesome! So much dadding going on here!
Ben, that was awesome. You and you’re father seem to have a beautiful relationship. Thank you for sharing that.
Times like this with our dads are forever memories. Good info, thanks.
He's such a dad.
"I think I'll be able to get 1 more piece"
(Literally gets 5 more)
"See if we can get this baby to start"
(starts in one yank)
@@tearlesstrel this killed me. Saw started before he could barely mutter the comment 🤣
What joy to watch a a father and son do something together.
My father is currently battling cancer and his life seems to deteriorate a bit each week so its nice to see this vid and remind me of things I did with Pop.
Learned something new today! I lost my dad back in April. Cherish the memories.
This was a pleasure to watch. Your dad seems like a wonderful man. ❤️
I doubt if I will need to split cedar shakes anytime soon. But I must say this is the most interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable video you’ve made. And that’s saying a lot! Very well done! Thanks!
Your dad has more to teach us. What a good guy
Man, I'm amazed this didn't get more views. I think it's your best work!
That was such a special treat! Do more of these. We now know where you get skill and attention to detail. Your Dad is truly a gifted craftsman and is a natural in front of the camera! Thanks for sharing! We can learn so much from our elders if we just listen.

Love seeing you and your dad. Two tradesmen enjoying making something for fun.
Your dad is pretty cool. Cherish every moment you have with him and absorb everything he has to offer. I can see that the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Heritage and family are so important. Kudos to you for honoring your father.
I smiled the whole time, what a charismatic guy!
I definitely would love to see more videos of your Dad. Very skilled as well.

Thank you! Your dad reminds me of mine; he was a great teacher also, taught me no one was born an expert, to take my time and learn from my mistakes.
Love the log splitting. Very therapeutic
Its pretty obvious your Dad has a wealth of knowledge and experience that needs to be documented. Both of you collaborating is a no brainer. Great work both of you. Thanks

just the other day I was saying to my self "I should learn how to make wooden shingles" and lo and behold. Thanks Ben, thanks Mr. Ben's dad.
Ben; your dad seems like such a nice man. He raised you well. I enjoyed watching this episode!
Was very nice to see a father and son work on a fun project. Camera work was very nice.
It’s crazy how much you look like you’re dad, it’s like watching you in the future!

He needs his own channel !! Loved the tips on getting the boards from the log !!
I'm glad you mentioned this in your other video, as I do think it is one of your best. The two of you are outstanding craftsmen, and your close relationship is a joy to see. Your children certainly have two outstanding men in their lives to look up to and learn from.
The sound those boards make when they hit the ground!! Kinda jealous of the nice knot free cedar you guys got there!!!
Very easy to see that your dad is a natural in front of the camera. He obviously has many talents and knowledge. I did notice he holds his hammer very far up the handle ..... he was have a strong arm. Love the rustic life style he lives.
Your dad is a true craftsman. Loved this video!
I liked your Dad’s personality so calm and fun
What a chill dad.
Impressive knowledge your dad has, calm voice and patience is the best way to share knowledge.
I've seen a lot of tricks but not exactly like this! I mean sure most of us have split fire wood but to split out almost perfect boards is amazing! Beautiful place there as well!
Those shakes came off beautifully.
Your dad is a great person. Now we know, how have you learned your wonderful teaching skills.
Truly amazing, he just made beautiful boards magically appear. Mad respect to your dad
Omg I bet that smells amazing haha. Love the sawn cedar scent.
Yeah!!! I could smell it with every split. So refreshing.
If this doesn't make you want to call your Dad and plan a build with him I'm not sure what would. Great folks and an incredible educational channel!
Oh wow! Your Pop, is quite the gifted craftsman! I can tell you're very proud of him, as you certainly have reason to be! (Say hi to your dad!)
Loved the video Ben. Fantastic seeing father and son working together. Very heart warming indeed. 🦘🇦🇺

Best video yet ! Ur a lucky man to have a Dad like that.
That was fun. I’ve never seen anyone split wood like that. Cool 😎 and what a beautiful location.
That's awesome, I've never seen this done before. Thanks to Dad for showing us how it's done. Watching from Perth Western Australia.👍
Can’t believe I’m just seeing this one! Love this, Ben I’m sure you feel the same, but I’m 40 and still learn so much from my Dad. Nice. Your dad should have his own channel. Lot of charisma.

The 2 of you together are wonderful. This is my favorite video. I can see how you learn your skill set and easy going manner from your Dad.
My kids would be asking to go to Papa's every weekend. Beautiful place.
Simply stated, you're dad rocks!
Thumbs up for Dad.
Your Dad sounds and looks alot like you, Ben.
I can see where you get your talent from.
Thanks for sharing!
Your dad seems admirable.
