LEGO Castle Tavern - Bricking Up Brad Intro

- As you might have seen on the @BrickingUpBrad channel: we have collaborated to bring you a look into a LEGO Castle tavern!
I have been getting more and more into the LEGO Castle themes. When looking for videos about this theme, you quickly land on one of Brad's videos. I have been watching his Tavern Talk series and I really enjoyed them. However I thought that the intro could use a bit of an upgrade. I contacted him and we quickly worked on a script for the video. We thought it would be cool that there would be a tavern filled with characters from all the different factions. We looked at a few figures and made sure that their character would be apparent in the video. Cedric the Bull makes an appearance and shows how clumsy he can be (like we saw in the LEGO Creator Knight's Kingdom cutscenes). Majisto has to show of his magic skills and Basil the Batlord is overlooking everything. A Wolfpack character will naturally try to rob someone. And Brad will be the barkeeper.
I'm really proud of this animation. There are so many character animation within this video. I also made some improvements to my animation rig to bring these characters more to life. I hope you like the video and if you're interested in LEGO Castle: check out the @BrickingUpBrad channel.

I love how minifigures of opposing factions are peacefully playing cards and getting drunk together. Meanwhile Basil, in full gear no less, is feverishly watching Cerlin (That's how Majisto was called in Germany) put on a trick, to impress (or maybe calm down) Willa. This is how i imagine the medieval Lego world to be.
And of course I noticed my friend just sitting there on the right railing at 00:02 :)

Meanwhile the Wolfpack are up to no good pick pocketing. Cedric seems to be up to no good either trying to steal his own shield (or was he just trying to put it up?)
I thought Basil was watching Cedric (you can see Basil's head moving slightly upwards) like he'd spotted what Cedric was doing

@@StudframeAnimations Also watch out for the Wolfpack they'll steal your money or other valuables from under your nose if your not careful. I'd be wary of Cedric and his Bulls too since I think they also do a bit of stealing.
When the door opened my jaw dropped. The lighting and the placement of the figures makes it look SO GOOD! And the brief journey through the bustling room is really engaging, it's hard to keep track of everything going on yet it flows really smoothly. Incredible work!! Brad must have been super pleased 😁

The Evil Knight with a boar shield from CMF Series 7 his bio on the Lego website actually said he's worked for Basil, Cedric and Vladek over the years. That would make a great animation. Like a montage of him working for his different bosses.

@@StudframeAnimations "The Life Of The Evil Knight". Would be cool to see him in Fright Knight armour, Bull Bandit armour and Scorpion/Shadow Knight armour (although he is wearing the same type of helmet as Vladek's knights).
Also i'm just picturing him coming to the tavern and either Cedric or Basil notices him (cuz Vladek is not present in this vid) and is all "Wait didn't you work for me at one point?"

@@StudframeAnimations Anybody who comes on a dragon to the tavern must leave their dragons outside.
This was one of the ideas I had for a Fright Knights animation: Something involving Basil and his black dragon Draco. The big main one I had idea of was Basil riding Draco and they end up snatching an unfortunate Dragon Master who's lost and strayed a bit too far from home. The Dragon Master knight is all "put me down!" and Basil does intend to......but it won't be a soft landing if you know what I mean. Since I like to think the Dragon Masters and Fright Knights are enemies (or at least rivals) because its now confirmed Majisto and Willa are cousins and I like to think they don't get along. Also way before they were confirmed to be cousins I had this head canon Basil actually used to be a Dragon Master knight before Willa got her hands on him as it would explain how he already knows how to ride a dragon. So with this confirmation Willa and Majisto are cousins this just goes perfectly with my head canon and Willa saw an opportunity to spite her cousin by turning one of his own knights onto her side. And Basil is feeling a little salty against his old faction because he believes they abandoned him (or he got kicked out by them)

@@StudframeAnimations I'd argue Basil is more iconic then Cedric. People still remember Basil because of Lego Racers and the Fright Knights theme in general. Combined with him making a modern comeback as a collectable minifig (there's also him being in Lego Legacy Heroes Unboxed but nobody seems to talk much about this game). Cedric on the other hand sadly has fallen under the radar for most people. He's mainly overshadowed by Vladek from Knights Kingdom 2. Most people either forgot Knights Kingdom 1 (and Creator KK) even existed and those that do it wasn't the most well received or liked theme. The deal he's not been brought back in any modern way doesn't help (though i'm hoping that will change soon because of that Castle faction vote). Yeah he does appear in Lego Soccer/Football Mania and Lego Island 2 (which I always found his portrayal weird there). But LI2 isn't the most well liked Lego game, and I don't see many people talk about Soccer/Football Mania (I commonly play as Cedric's team)
@@robonaught I love the idea of giving Cedric more screen time. I actually quite liked his appearance in LEGO Island 2. Creator Knight’s Kingdom does display his character a bit better. He always comes up with interesting new tactics to take over the Castle but he and his team are often too clumsy to make it work.
Let’s hope that the vote will give LEGO enough motivation the bring the Bulls back to the modern times. 😁

Funny story of mine:
I played Creator Knights Kingdom before Lego Racers so when I first played Racers I thought the Royal Knights Raceway track was based on Knights Kingdom 1 because they have a similar emblem with the same lion head wearing a crown and the Royal King (or King Richard whatever you wanna call him) was a younger King Leo. Yep this was back before I started doing proper research on all the older themes.
@@robonaught Ohh yeah I can imagine. Would be cool to see Cedric popping up! 😄

BTW since I played CKK first Cedric was the first Lego character (and villain) I took an immediate liking to so he was my number 1 favourite Lego character for some time. But then when I played Racers he was pushed down to second favourite by Basil. Although I still consider Cedric my favourite Lego villain because I don't really see Basil as a straight up villain because of reasons in the Fright Knights lore. While Cedric is obviously and officially a villain (even though I don't think he's completely evil). The reason I like Basil slightly more then Cedric is because Cedric has a layer of comedy to him as shown in CKK and he does seem to forget common sense. Basil on the other hand he looks like he takes no nonsense and is smart considering how he goes for and uses the stronger power ups in Racers, he wouldn't make a silly mistake like Cedric. Basil would basically have Cedric for breakfast.
@@robonaught You seem to like the villains from the games. Did you also like Ogel from Alpha Team?
@@StudframeAnimations I found Ogel kind of to be meh to be honest. Like he does have a few funny moments and there's this whole thing about he's the descendent of Vladek from Knights Kingdom 2 but other then that I found him to be kind of.....boring. He just doesn't really stand out to me.
Oh boy I am gonna get a load of hate comments just for saying that.
Also there are a couple of Lego villains that don't originate from games that I like. Cedric technically counts as one of these because both CKK and the KK1 sets came out in 2000 but i'm not sure if the game came out first before the sets or both the sets and game were released at the same time on the same month and day.

@@StudframeAnimations So the missing factions are Trolls/Orcs, Classic, Leo's Lions, Kingdoms Lions, 2013 Lions. Also possibly Dark Forest if you wanna see them as a separate faction from Forestmen rather then a straight up continuation of them or the same faction. The deal that they dress differently from the Forestmen is why some people consider them a different faction.

@@StudframeAnimationsOh my god....imagine Storm arm wrestling Cedric. Though I think Cedric would actually win against Storm since Cedric is implied to be rather strong. Remember that one cutscene in CKK where he tries to get into the castle to steal some gold but the portcullis shuts on him? Well for a few seconds he was lifting it up with his bare hands! Yep Cedric is strong enough to lift a heavy metal gate! Also some official sources say he can chop wood with his bare hands.

Is it just me or is Cedric the one most likely to start a bar brawl? The minute one of Leo's Lions walks in there's probably gonna be trouble. Or someone makes the foolish mistake of making Cedric angry.

@@StudframeAnimations Cedric has always been one of my top 2 favourite Lego Castle characters (the other being Basil) so its always a blast seeing him.
Is it possible you'll do some animations for Creator Knights Kingdom? I feel it was such a missed opportunity in the game to actually let you choose between siding with the Lions or the Bulls in the tutorial so if you picked to side with the Bulls you'd get Gilbert the Bad as your guide along with slightly different tutorial objectives and different cut scenes showing Cedric being more successful.
Also around 3 months ago there was an official poll off Lego about the next castle faction with the Bulls being one of the candidates. I sadly didn't find out about the poll until after it was over so I didn't get to vote but I would have gladly voted for the Bulls. Even if the Bulls don't win the overall votes I still have hope they (and Knights Kingdom 1 in general) will return in some way or the other since Lego has been recently bringing back most of the Castle themes so I doubt they'll just ignore and forget the Bulls.
@@robonaught Ohh yes! I have a big video idea for LEGO Creator Knights Kingdom. The thing is that it’s a lot work to make it happen. Hope I can work on it on day. Cedric needs more screen time! 😜

Hopefully soon we'll be finally getting the results of the Castle faction vote minifig that is going to appear in the new Lego Ideas Prize Machine set.
Lego really needs to make a Castle CMF line, we got a Space one so why not Castle?
I totally forgot about this minifig keychain of Weezil but he's wearing the Wolfpack emblem instead of the Bulls emblem. (BrickingUpBrad talks about it in his newest vid) Not sure if there is an actual reason as to why Lego did this but I like to think the Bulls wouldn't get along with the Wolfpack and they'd have turf wars because I personally see the Wolfpack as like the most evil, ruthless and greedy out of the rogue/outlaw factions while the Bulls are a little less evil. So maybe its some scenario where Weezil is disguised as a Wolfpack member and spying on them or even stealing some of their weapons or stolen riches for Cedric .
@@robonaught Hahah that would be awesome. The new Wolfpack CMF looks really cool too. I’m curious what LEGO is cooking with the faction vote. 😄
@StudframeAnimations If they did a Castle CMF line perhaps they could be the factions that didn't win the Prize Machine vote (maybe aside from the Raven/Tournament Knight cuz that was already a CMF) as well as the factions which haven't made a return yet like the Black Knights for example.
That whole idea of Weezil disguised as a Wolfpack member I can see where his cover is eventually blown somehow and the Wolfpack take him prisoner, Cedric finds out and he is not happy! Cuz hey if Gilbert and Weezil are willing to break Cedric out of prison in CKK (even though they failed) then it would be nice if Cedric would do the same for his adopted son.

There's argument over when the Classic era of Lego Castle ended. Some say it ended with Fright Knights. Some say it ended with Ninja (Ninja being a Castle theme is whole other debate topic). Some say it ended with Knights Kingdom 1.
To be honest, I don't really like putting labels on stuff. It creates this idea that "classic" LEGO was much better than anything that came after it. But there were some amazing sets that came in the later years. I love it all. 😋
@@StudframeAnimations I'm not saying the modern themes and sets are bad. I was more referring to how the style of Castle changed and some argue when the change from "classic" to "modern" era was.
@@robonaught ahh I see. When do you think the classic era ended?
@@StudframeAnimations I wanna say it was Knights Kingdom 1 because it still has enough elements in it that makes it feel "Classic". Though you can see how KK1 was like the first step to how Castle changed into the theme/story needs to have at least 2 factions which are clearly opposing the other instead of making each faction a separate sub theme which are all shown existing together in catalogues so you had to at least buy one set of each sub theme to make a scene of them crossing paths (aside from the occasional prisoner/outlaw in some sets). Also after KK1 we kind of stopped getting factions which are rogues/outlaws like the Forestmen and Wolfpack. Yeah I consider the Bulls as an outlaw faction.
@@robonaught I think you’re right there. Makes sense. I really need to make more Castle content. Is such a big world with all the interesting factions. 😄
So CMF Series 27 has been leaked and one of the figures is a new Wolfpack figure. Okay thats nice and all BUT GIMME CEDRIC ALREADY! Or a Bull soldier in general! Besides we've already gotten 2 modern Wolfpack figures the CMF Rogue and the Wolfpack figure that comes in set 103322.
@@robonaught People love Wolfpack, so I can see why they did that. But Cedric needs to make a comeback for sure!
