I'm so glad to see one of the malls of my childhood still alive and kicking. I used to shop there with family all throughout the 90s and 2000s, as far back as '91. I had a lot of good memories shopping there and eating in the food court, which I always thought had a cool retro vibe to it. Loved this place!
Wow! What a beautiful mall! I love how there are windows up above on the side towards the top, as it reminds me of the old malls with such windows. I love the glass railings as it looks so luxurious!
This is the best mall I ever worked in and shopped in! in the late 1990's it was the Sears portrait studio which had an awesome manager at that time. It didn't look anything like this in the 90s. It also has one of the largest and nicest food courts of any of the area malls!
The mall was one of my favorites. The current decor of the mall isn’t too fitting. The previous version made it “Green”brier to me. The light green and purple from the 2000s decade did pop to me.
I remember the last time I and my family went in 2019. They all got on the 1 elevator, and I opted not to, I took the stairs. I then watched as the elevator struggled to lift, then stop in the middle of the 1st and 2nd floor. The elevator walls were clear so I saw them freaking out a bit.🤣🤣
@2:50 Hey!! I work there. I'm the head tech manager. The mall is dying. We are actually in the middle of changing locations to MacArthur. I worked for namco as well. We had a store upstairs in the food court. I was working there when they lady got her hand caught in the escalator. Someone told me it was a kid though. Sears is still empty. They used it for a Halloween store, but that was obviously temporary. A lot more stores have closed down since you were here. A lot of them, right after Christmas. After this pandemic is over, i'm pretty sure a bunch more will be closed. Right now only like 4 stores are open. Thanks for stopping by.
Sad update, to read this comment. I must've missed this video, when Doomie originally posted this. I wonder if CBL still owns this mall, or if they've since sold it off?
@Cyberstar Entertainment Not sure if you posted this during the covid close, but the mall shut down for about 2 months in March. It's still running, barely, but it's not completely dead... Yet.
One of the worst things they ever did at the mall was the 2003 makeover. They took all the colors out, all the decorations, everything that made it an interesting place to go. Now it just looks bland industrial. I was there on opening day. The railings on the second floor used to vibrate with the harmonics of the settling building. It finally stopped around 1995 or so.
This mall has gotten so bad. The roof is leaking everywhere. They had so many buckets catching water on the second floor. There are hardly any stores left on the second floor. Once sears left the mall went down.
I used to go to this mall in the 80s and 90s had family work there as well. I have to say I loved the way it looked in the early years with the fountains ⛲. The new decor is ugly.
This is really sad :( i used to go to this place every weekend with my then boyfriend and spend a lot of time in the unlimited imports, dollar store, pet shop, yankee candle, hot topic, and arcade. We would also see movies a lot at the cinema cafe. I wish I could go there more often now. Hopefully it can recover and still be around for many years.
I've lived In the area since 2005 and Greenbrier Mall Is clearly a dying mall but to be fair all of the malls In Hampton Roads are dying or close to dead.
3:32 Exactly how you see Memory Lane Sports here in 2019, is exactly what it looks like now in 2022, except it still has a sign 'Temporarily Closed', 2 years after this video was shot. EDIT: I see Easter stuff up, which means this was shot in spring 2019, and released fall 2019, so 3 years after this vdeo
I was at College down the road when it was built. CHICK-FILA original owners came to our college(Atlanta Christian College) and spoke about their plans to expand! Shook the owners hand! 1981
Not a bad mall except for the closed off Sears. They do get bonus points for the large arcade. The ceiling is a little odd, I can't say that I have seen one quite like that before.
Went there on December 13, 2019 with my mom to go Christmas shopping. The place was dead. The sales lady at Coastal Edge asked me if I had finished all my Christmas shopping and wanted to know how much I did of it on line. It's like they know they are coming to and end. Went across the street where they have a Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls almost side by side. All three of those stores were packed.
Empty Sears tend to stay empty most of the time from what I am seeing. You must have recorded this a while back? Payless has been out of business for several months now

Lower the volume down for the background music can barely make you out
You know your mall is doomed when you don’t have a pretzel twister anymore. FOR SHAME!

Great video Doomie! Always enjoy the content.
I go here often during the summer, so glad to know it's still alive and kicking, but multiple stores have closed down recently

Lmao. I like how I randomly come across ya while watching dead mall videos.

Nice place! Glad to see that it’s not that bad of a mall like most these days! :)
It's gotten bad

Used to hit this Mall starting in the late 60s until the mid 80s. Same with Westgate shopping across the street

Remember occasionally going to the Sears that was in this mall with my family for Christmas shopping and going to the eye care center for my glasses

Hmmmmm. Interesting mall. I don't dig the carpeting on the 2nd floor though.

Gameworks closed permanently

3:23 Payless shoes, score
Why not put a Wal-Mart in Sears?

Nice mall. Not much foot traffic though.
In this video, it looks so bland. When I go there, it’s full.
1:38 what store is that please tell me the one with the blue
Holic, it’s a regional chain
@@toliveandfryIt used to be The Limited
The police lie, yes rumors were facts...I go to this mall. Gangs hang like thugs they are... you need to pack your piece.
