    You don't choose the order of the cards at the end, the order is random, the rulebook even says to shuffle the cards beforehand. This is why there is such a disadvantage to only having one card to look at.

    Hey Dan thank you for all your great reviews. Many of my purchases come as a direct result of your words. I did want to let you know of you one rule you are playing wrong. In the final round of play after the ghost has selected the final 3 cards to play he is supposed to shuffle those and then reveal them one at a time. That way he cannot just select his best one, thus providing an advantage to those who only vote based on the first card. In my playthroughs playing it the correct way it has always been an advantage to see more cards. This little rule makes all the difference. Also, I personally love the added clairvoyancy tokens. I believe it helps eliminate quaterbacking even further and provides more strategy and things for people to do in the game. I have only played with family and not gamers and never has it been remotely too complex for individuals to pick up. Having played both versions, using those tokens is much better. Thanks again for your awesome channel!

      +Spencer Pace Yes you are correct. I still dislike the voting tokens as many times near the end of the 3rd round (before they get all their tokens back) and the end of the game, people are sometimes left with only one type of token (maybe two X tokens for example). Since it's use it or lose it, they just throw them on other's guesses even if they think they are right. Therefore they can move up the track by just dumb luck even if they actually thought the answer was the opposite, but they had no more of that type of token left.

      I agree. I did notice some this also, but in further playthroughs I found the group was able to get better at using them. But, like most games out there there is still a chance to just get lucky. But, I think it works cause it gives less vocal players a chance to officially voice their opinion and It works more than it doesn't. I will always use the tokens in continued playthroughs. I guess I am one of those in the same camp as Joel Eddy (DriveThruReview). Thanks again for your response and awesome work!

      +Spencer Pace Thanks for sharing Spencer. The good news is if you don't like the voting tokens, you can easily play without them per the original rules. So whatever your group likes, they can have!

    Another great review, Game Boy Geek. Thanks for keeping them coming. This game is now a buy for me.

    Thanks for the review! I haven't bought the game yet but have been watching numerous different videos on it. I think I will house-rule that the communal dream people still use their Cyrstal Balls to signify which group they want to vote on. Only the people who guessed right "wins." But only those who solved all 3 of their initial dreams gets to vote in the final dream, eliminating that weird rule where some get to see more visions than others which only confuses them.

    Great review. I've played it three times with great success with the rules for the Polish version. I feel a "thematic disconnect" with the whole bidding for clairvoyance tokens, but it's still a decent enough variant to include. Just my two cents

    Great review. I believe once you choose your final three cards you shuffle them, so the best one won't necessarily be flipped first. I could be wrong though.

      +TheGameBoyGeek - Hi Quality Hi Energy Board Game Reviews I have noticed the same since guessing wrong has no penalty. When the mechanic becomes just throw them down because you have some left and it's near end game, the game does lose some theme and pulls you out of the atmosphere a little. But my group likes it so oh well.

      You could try this: incorrect clairvoyance choices hurt you, correct choices help you double.

    To solve the problem of getting to see too many cards can throw you off the murderer, this is what I came up with: In the end game the ghost plays a card, then the lowest level clairvoyants vote. The ghost then points to the type the first card referred to, places the second card, and the second level clairvoyants vote. Finally, the ghost points to the type the second card referred to, places the final card and the highest level clairvoyants vote. This way the lowest level clairvoyants still get the same info as the default rules, but the higher level clairvoyants get clearer info. It might make the game too easy for some, but there are ways to make it harder like increasing the clairvoyance # required for the highest level and/or prohibiting talking once the sand timer is started earlier in the game.

    I thought this video was going to be a review of Mysterium (1991) for the Nintendo Game Boy. Nope. Heh. :D

    I'm still a bit fuzzy on one part, how is the real culprit actually decided? Does the ghost just pick one secretly?

    • @TheGameBoyGeeks
      @TheGameBoyGeeks  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Beaverlovinguy Yes they pick which one is the real culprit. You can see the rules here - boardgamegeek.com/file/download/rzkjjs5h4o/MYST_RULES_US_BD.pdf

    Just to be absolutely clear, if I already own the old version, is this new version worth getting?

    • @TheGameBoyGeeks
      @TheGameBoyGeeks  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jeremiah Petersen If you're one of the few that have the other edition, and you've solved the card holding issue for the ghost, then I don't see any reason to spend more money.

      Thank you, managed to snag one of the last copies in Warsaw back in May while visiting family.
