Obito really has an amazing story. He arguably has the best character development in the entire show, and has a badass mangekyo. He made the show a lot better.

I don't know why we love bad guys more than good guys, especially when they change at the end of their lives, as Obito did. He was born, lived, turned into a villain, and then died a hero.
Because most heroes are just goody-two-shoes who can never do any wrong or make mistakes, everything always works out in their favor. They do not know what it's like to indeed suffer, even considering the tragedies the heroes have experienced. In no way is the hero's suffering greater than any others' suffering, yet, they're the ones who are prioritized for seemingly no reason, and they are the ones who are cared about and deserve none of it. They lack humanity. They lack grounding. They were fortunate enough to not have everybody stomp on them their whole lives, while the villains who were the exact same, were not so fortunate. The villains represent the rules rather than the exceptions. Villains don't leave you going "lemme guess, the good guy wins, the evil guy loses, the good guy gets treated like a hero and celebrity, and everything works out in the end." Which is a crock of bullshit. While the villains, who were once as deserving and perhaps, even more, got nothing but spit at and abuse from the very same people who treat the current 'hero' with all the love and affection. The thing is, villains see people for how they indeed are, not delusions of grandeur and the special treatment the 'good guys' get. No wonder the villains grow to hate, the heroes would too if they saw all the sheep's true colors. In a sense, people hate heroes, they're embodiments of someone so out of touch with reality and have a god complex: an embodiment of narcissism. A person where the world revolves around them. Fuck heroes.
What I realized was that Obito was still that kind-hearted boy deep inside. He still had love for his comrades and teacher but his pain was just too much greater, that the kind boy inside him was suppressed and ignored. His pain caused his worldview to be so distorted that he grew deep hatred for his world day by day, until all that's left is a cruel and heartless monster. It was only when he was constantly reminded of his kind self that he began to change.

Obito and Madara were never bad guys to start with. They were manipulated into the bad guys they became later. Same with Itachi.
