Also yes hammer away with the pummel it’s 100% designed for it. The original BG one had issues and so it was then revised with a thicker and wider plastic base at the bottom identical to the newer ultimate model.
Damn feeling old now, I would have been playing around with the original unrevised Bear Grylls version of this while this while this guy was starting primary school. Was quite a bit bigger back then too and looked at it like it was gold no different than him. After use with the older model of this knife and after a 10k+ of collecting over the years all I can say is I absolutely feel sorry for anyone that purchases this over least the Gerber strong arm OR Cold Steel Srk (the slightly better option) when searching for a cheap throw around knife or on a small budget.
Great knife, the strongarm is only slightly longer and is made of 420hc so it retains its edge slightly longer. This knife should be all you will ever need, it’s tough easy to sharpen and dripping with features. Love that they included the ability to strap it to poles ext like on the Gerber LMF 2. Also for survivalists, they should go for this over the strongarm/LMF 2 because the pommel is great for tent pegs and battoning unlike the glass breakers on the more premium knives.
My blade cracked after 1 bushcraft outing. The blade made from a cheap chinese steel and this particular knife isn't made in the the USA like the Strongarm. I sent it back for a refund.
Idk man I look into it a fair bit before purchasing it seen some people doing stress tests with the item seen to be quite robust you could of had a crack in the from when it was made or something mate idk I've only used it a once or twice atm seems fine lad but if anything gose wrong with it in the future pal I'll let ya know bro
I liked it till I really put it though it's paces the pummel on the back of the blade really needs to be on metal not the plastic why would you make on plastic I'll never know
Looks like Gerber some reason (likely money) decided to copy the original Bear Grylls knife design instead of the Pro model which was leagues better. There is another youtuber who broke this knife (on purpose) and oddly enough exposed the tang, while full, its so thin, rendering it almost useless - just like the 3/4 tang of the original knife. I really wish they made the ultimate pro version again, better steel, thick full tang you can see from the outside and just a better knife.
Gerber did not copy the Bear Grills knife. Bear G partnered with Gerber to make that knife. Gerber used Bear G to sell more knives. It was always Gerbers patent and it always belonged to Gerber. So when the agreement with both went away, Gerber continued to make this knife.
The Bear Grylls knives and survival range was all made by Gerber. It was all made to fit a price point. Anything in life is garbage if you compare it to things that cost 2 or 3 times the price

Looks just like the old Gerber Bear Grylls ultimate survival knife without tge orange
Nice Knife I am still enjoying my Strong arm from Gerber, But after seeing your review I might check into this one!! Cool knife “
If you must mount knife to pack, mount it so that blade is facing away as your neck
Put a ranger band on the fire rod .
First rule of survival. Get in shape!
Well done 👏
Read alot of bad reviews on this knife. I carry the prodigy none serrated.
Gerber uses cheap soft steel. Once you lose that sharp factory edge you endlessly need to sharpen it. For cheap survival knives, Mora are much better.
