Wow...the 1st 40 seconds of this video is one of the funniest things I've ever seen! First the look on Rufus face when the announcer points out who's coming and then when the challenge is thrown down they both walk in opposite directions....I still got tears in my eyes from laughing so hard...
One of the greatest angles of all time and a little racism from Ernie Ladd (nappy hair). Ric Flair called Rufus that all the time. He even called him Kunta Kinte (Roots). I wonder how that would go over today. Sad that all three in this are gone. They answered that final bell. Ernie, Gary, & Rufus, thanks for the memories.
OMG this is one of the funniest things I've ever seen! Ernie Ladd flipping backwards so that his feet catch the top ropes! LOL. He always put his arm over his head when he was getting beat up.
lmao at gary hart leaving with his money rufus r jones was also father of the manager "slick" in the wwe and managed the iron sheik, volkoff, the big boss man, and even kamala.
I gotta admit i REMEMBER this one, I LAUGHED all night at this, but that was the GREAT days of wrestling and they are GONE FOREVER ,NEVER COMING BACK and i dont WATCH wrestling anymore, it,s NOTHING but crap now.
Rufus did say "wrestle" at the 0:12 - 0:13 second mark. However, I do think that was a mistake on Rufus' part when it comes to making this angle work. Still, this is a hilarious angle.
@RSXemperor- you're so right- one of the flaws with the current product is the lack of mouthpieces to get good wrestlers over that don't have to gift of gab- Benjamin, Haas, Swagger, and others...
Hmmmm. I never knew that Ladd worked in Mid Atlantic. I do know he was in Mid South for part of 1984 because he had beaten Magnum for the North American title there.
@@FranFJB yup. He even worked in the WWWF against Bruno. I also remember when he worked here in Los Angeles for the Lebelle's and when he was part of the first company that attempted to go national; Ed Einhorn's IWA.
The deal was this, JYD went to the Carolinas to help Rufus R.Jones, and Jimmy Valiant, so Ladd goes to Mid-South just in time to screw Dog out of victory in the Ghetto Street Fight with Butch Reed in the Superdome.
Warchief01 Rufus was an embarrassment to me as a black kid growing up. True enough, he took care of business in the ring, but all the other clowning was sickening. Like when Ric Flair and the Andersons beat him up and slapped a chauffeur cap on him or when Blackjack Mulligan beat him and tore his suit off, leaving him in the ring corner half naked and unconscious.
I can watch Ernie Ladd promos all day.
"Yank-yank-yank...yunk-yunk-yunk!!"
RIP to playboy Gary Hart, arguably the Blackest White man in wrestling history!
Gary Hart was Black
"When you can get a thousand dollars laying around I advise you to pick it up and take it!" 🤣🤣🤣😅😆
Ernie Ladd took the money and got out of the ring. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Captain Nappy Head???
Ernie Ladd is great!!!
The funniest thing about this clip is when Hart, Ernie and Rufus finish the interview, they all go off in different directions.
Wait a minute did the "Big Cat" call Mr. Rufus 👉🏾"Captain Nappy Head" 🤔
😆🤣😂
Captain Nappyhead HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'm dead!!!
That drunken Indian Strongbow better not mess with Ernie Ladd
Good Lord, this is 1984? Unbelievable. I was 10 and tuned into TBS Saturday and Sunday for this.
i shed tears looking at the glory years of wrestling and the GARBAGE of today knowing we'll never see anything like it again
PREACH IT AGAIN. WE NEED A TIME MACHINE SO WE CAN GO BACK AND JUST ENJOY THOSE DAYS WHEN WRESTLING WAS GREAT. I,m WITH YOU ON THAT,

I just noticed that too. Hilarious!!

They would NEVER get away with that in todays world no way.....

Man, I miss the pace of wrestling back then as well as those cliff-hanger endings.
PlayBoy Gary Hart , Big Cat Ernie Ladd Legends ....
I remember RRJ, Ernie Ladd and Playboy Gary Hart very well. Great times of wrestling.
Captain Nappyhead! We miss you Ernie!
Better than raw
Raw sucks
You're right... he did. Very funny stuff anyway. They just don't do it like this anymore.
Man, I missed the old days!
Rufus did say "wrestle" at the 0:12 - 0:13 second mark. However, I do think that was a mistake on Rufus' part when it comes to making this angle work. Still, this is a hilarious angle.
Rip Ernie ladd
RUFUS R. JONES TOOK IT TO BIG ERNIE LADD AND HIS MANAGER GARY HART !
Always liked Ernie Ladd talking about drunkin Indians full of whiskey 😂🤣
Robert Blaney Ernie Always Refers to Dusty as “DIRTY RHODES”
I remember watching this live and in color! 😁
I expected Mark Youngblood to hit Blanchard with his purse.
Why would you pay him up front Rufus? Doesn't matter what he did to Ernie after, he still looked a fool.
Dusty must of got his moves from Rufus 🧐
this was real wrestling in I love this old stuff
Shedon Chambliss I pick old school classic wrestling over contemporary wrestling any day!
Love it
Rufus said he'd give Ernie $1000 to get in the ring. He didn't say wrestle...what's the problem?
Mark Youngblood gave one hell of a convincing interview. Had 'me' scared.... ;-)
Greg gagne had more charisma lol!
Was Younblood a Native American and was his brother really his brother
LOL
I do remember moment in 1984 in NWA Wrestling under Jim Crockett Promotions.
I was a Senior in High School in 1984.
Brilliant in it's simplicity.
Make Wrestling Great Again
Crockett had an unbelievable talent roster in 1984, how did Gary Hart and Ernie Ladd end up there?
Gary Hart at the time was actually booking for Crockett along with Ernie Ladd and Dory Funk junior Before Dusty Rhodes came along in summer of 84
Ernie ladder has to be the funniest wrestler ever
Great stuff.
@RSXemperor- you're so right- one of the flaws with the current product is the lack of mouthpieces to get good wrestlers over that don't have to gift of gab- Benjamin, Haas, Swagger, and others...
Best yrs of wrestling
THE ORIGINAL $ 1,000.00 DOLLAR CHALLENGE ! MID ATLANTIC CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING / JIM CROCKETT PROMOTIONS (1984) .

Hmmmm. I never knew that Ladd worked in Mid Atlantic. I do know he was in Mid South for part of 1984 because he had beaten Magnum for the North American title there.
Brian Washington Ernie worked the Entire East from North to South!!
@@FranFJB yup. He even worked in the WWWF against Bruno. I also remember when he worked here in Los Angeles for the Lebelle's and when he was part of the first company that attempted to go national; Ed Einhorn's IWA.
I think Ladd work everywhere, literally! A lot of the NWA territories, WWF, might have went overseas as well
The deal was this, JYD went to the Carolinas to help Rufus R.Jones, and Jimmy Valiant, so Ladd goes to Mid-South just in time to screw Dog out of victory in the Ghetto Street Fight with Butch Reed in the Superdome.
Hahah unlucky Rufus!
1 person got his $1000 stolen.
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! :))

Freight Train Jones got duped
LMFAO!
Gary Hart give me the money lol Dirty Rhodes ripped off Rufus R Jones
Wahoo is great

Big Ernie was funnier than Eddie Murphy!
Now that's my kind of wrestling right there back lights really go to and from the sixties own up to 1991 now that was wrestling back in the day
Rufus R. ( Freight-train) Jones.
Warchief01 Rufus was an embarrassment to me as a black kid growing up. True enough, he took care of business in the ring, but all the other clowning was sickening.
