    Finally found awesome SEED! 1518025118 Steam geysers right next each other and close to start (SouthWest). Natural gas directly north and south, southern very close. Oil geyser DIRECTLY south from Dupe pod. And Chlorine south east through a nice vein of abysalite. Not a lot of slimelung to contend with to get a good base going and plenty of algae and water around starting point. Great map!

    This is genius! Such a simple solution to those annoying airlocks that don't lock air in at all...

  • @zarquan3144

    If you were to put two columns of this separated by one tile and made the middle tile in to a vacuum, wouldn't that be a perfectly thermally insulating naphtha liquid lock? That could be cool when going to the oil areas or dealing with magma or having a cold farm for sleetwheat in your base.

    you could build a pneumatic door over the naptha to control where each dupe goes

  • @zarquan3144
    @zarquan3144 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello. Thank you for talking about my water lock system!
    For those who wish to build the one tile water lock:
    One thing that you should be careful with on the one-tile water lock is that the duplicant's breathing can displace the water, as can slime and bleach stone, or anything else that releases gas. The naptha-lock at 8:30 would work just as well with water as with naptha, though perhaps you could put more naptha in the corner than the ~30g of water and prevent the lock from breaking by gas displacement (breath-proof)? Occasionally, if duplicants run through a shallow pool, holes appear in the water due to duplicants exhaling (it sometimes makes my thermoregulators flood for a little bit). Does this happen if there is only one tile of liquid, but there is a larger mass in that tile? My current solution gas displacement is to not move things like slime and bleach stone through these waterlocks and put CO2 above it so the dups can't breathe, but maybe naptha provides a better solution. You can't do a one tile lock with more than 40 g of water, but you can with naptha. I should experiment with higher masses of liquids and exhaling, as well as see how much liquid I can get to stay in one tile.
    Also, completely inexplicably, the one tile waterlock only works down an to the right, which is something I will probably never understand. This still confuses me.
    This game has weird quantum laws....

    From a previous experiment, we know the airflow tile can manage infinite liquid pressure, what i'm wondering is if the liquid bottler as the same properties.
    With this, we can have 2 tiles wide tank managing infinite pressure to stock/retrieve the naphta.

    • @NiennaNeryam
      @NiennaNeryam 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Won't work as the liquid bottler doesn't count as a solid tile, so it will just burst out the top

      I guess so. But there is only so much you put into one base as there is only 1 temperate area.What I mean is using all every area on the map and every feature on the map, Gas Geysers , Oil wells Pufts, Morbs and so on. As I have seen in some videos certain features are needed, Such as Geysers.

  • @JD_Mortal
    @JD_Mortal 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you jump through it... do you still get the debuf? Looking at the frame where it broke through the algae, they would not "touch" the wet floor, as they jump from one dry tile to the other, through the liquid. (Not sure if it will count the "mid-air" flying as a "contact", as standing in a half/full tile of water counts as soaked/soggy.

      Depending on what plastic and molecular weight you're using, HDPE for example, will only melt into liquid plastic around 120-180c, and start to burn not much later than that.

    Been using that liquid door for a while, it could be any 2 types of liquid as long its less than 30g.
    i.imgur.com/I8Dvoyd.png
    There is a flaw tho, it only works if both gases are unbreathable, if dupes exhales CO2 while passing, the door will be broken, CO2 will push the water out. Using only 1 tile of water in a corner could potentially fix it.
    Edit: Nope never mind, 1 tile gets pushed out as well. Naphtha does not make a difference.

    • @zarquan3144
      @zarquan3144 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yay! Someone else did the experiment!
      I know of this issue. However, you can easily use my design (from 7:54) make sure CO2 is in the tile above the water. It doesn't go anywhere. It will also naturally occur if duplicants hangout in that area. I often build the hole, put the water in, then move a dup there until the CO2 is present. That way the dups can not breathe in the water lock and thus can never displace it. I also make sure they can't breathe on the other side of the waterlock, but that might just be paranoia. It is nasty if a chlorine storage container leaks. You still have to make sure bleach stone and slime and polluted dirt cant get through, but that isn't too bad. They also only work down and to the right (the horizontal reflection is not air tight). I don't understand that aspect of the physics of this game.

I had that lake all set up and ready to be the Dups first water source, what a shock I took all my pre planning out and went for the deep water first, duh..I did report it to Klei, I hope its a bug.

      Doors can leak if there is heavy traffic. You can end up with chlorine in your base and then in your gas pipes. Waterlocks can never leak.

    • @deviousbutton9211
      @deviousbutton9211 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't get my point, powered airlock doors should not leak to start with. the doors leak yes.. but should not leak..

    • @zarquan3144
      @zarquan3144 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that it would be nice if there were a true air lock, but until one is implemented, the waterlocks are certainly not pointless. Even if they create proper airlocks, I will still use my corner waterlocks to keep the chlorine in the food area because it makes accessing the food faster. If they make a true airlock, it will be at least 2x2, if not 3x2 and will require the dup to wait for a bit to get through because that's how actual airlocks work. The corner airlock would almost certainly be faster in many cases.
