How sad that this 17-year-old girl was first stood up and then killed the same night. She probably looked sad and vulnerable which made the killer approach and perhaps ‘comfort’ her. If only the guy had enough manners to cancel the date.
It was not so easy to cancel a date in those days, I doubt either of them had a home phone, and he probably had no idea of where she lived as they had arranged to meet at the dance. Being stood up was more common in the 50's and 60's. Even if he had turned up, she would probably have still gone home alone, if he lived in the opposite direction or used public transport I doubt he would have seen her home, you didn't expect to be taken home in those days, especially after a first date.
While I agree, the sad truth is that if it weren't HER, it would have been another girl killed. so if the guy had the manners to cancel the date, it'd only have saved her, not prevented a murder.
While his manners were rude I do not think you can blame the guy of what happened. He would not have known that this would have happened and I am sure that it still probably eats him away inside to know had he just cancelled it it would have possibly been different but regardless like said here he would not have prevented a murder cause there still would most likely have been someone else that the killer would have murdered so to put kinda a young girls death over the shoulders of a guy due to his manners is quite a lot.
@@tak4832 It was her decision to go to the dance alone, she was supposed to meet her 'date' at the bus stop, when he did not show up she caught a later bus and went anyway.

As saddening as it is for anyone from fetus to centenarian to die. I hate when people refer to youth/beauty/intelligence/personality as particularly tragic to lose in a person. The old, ugly, stupid, grouchy person is not easier lost nor are they worth less. Human life is sacred regardless. God is no respecter of persons.
Imagine being the “date” of this young girl. I would feel sooo guilty for standing her up. If he did show up then maybe the killer wouldn’t of targeted her. She must’ve been so sad when he didn’t turn.

I don't get how Mr. Watt was a suspect. If he had multiple affairs why would he suddenly sexually assault his own daughter? I know being a father does not stop one from abusing their own children, but it makes no sense if he had a long history of being in affairs with other adult women outside of the family. I think the fishing trip was to cover up one of those affairs, which was why he seemed shady to police.
Kinda late, but i think he was a suspect because of the generalization that men just want sex/theyll do anything for sex/men cant be trusted. its very misandrist, but some people do think like that. the police may have also thought "mr.watt wouldve killed his daughter anyway, why not get free sex out of it??". Its VERY fucked up. That + him being very sus already wouldve only made the police against mr.watt more.

Tobin was a a psychopath, in prison he boasted about killing 48 people, but never named them, that is the control that a psychopaths like to exert. There are similarities between photographs of Tobin from that era and the photofit artist's impression of Bible John, and Tobin had moved from Glasgow in 1969, the same year as the killings officially ended. Another similarity is that eyewitnesses told police that the suspect had one tooth missing in his upper-right area of the mouth; dental records proved that Tobin had a tooth removed around the late 1960s

I really love how Eleanor adds trigger warnings. I know some people who watch/listen to true crime but can't handle the ones with SA and other stuff like that, so the trigger warnings are really helpful to them, and it makes me happy to know that Eleanor wants her viewers to be comfortable with the videos :)

It was not uncommon back in the 50's to be stood up, if either party changed their minds about meeting up they usually had no way of contacting the other person, (especially if it was a first date) not many households had phones back then, and if they had arranged to meet at the dance he probably had no idea of where she lived.

For the longest time, Hogmanay was the biggest celebration in Scotland and Christmas was not as much of a fuss. Hogmanay come from the gaelic (old spelling) "oge maidne" meaning "young morning/new morning".
Hogmanay is just what some of us call New Year’s Eve in Scotland!

William not showing emotion to his family’s death would of course be shocking and make everyone more suspicious, however a lot of people deal with grieve in a different way obviously at first he didn’t know how to react and just had no emotion.
and it may have seemed like he had no emotion when truly it just appeared that way to other people. people can retreat into their own minds
I really really applaud the way Eleanor cut these stories in a way they are not annoying cliffhangers or stale enough to not be curious about the next part.
Did anyone consider that the reason this SERIAL ADULTERER was trying to cover his tracks wasn’t because he was killing his wife for his own SERIAL ADULTERY but rather that he was committing another in his SERIES OF ADULTERIES that night, and that the murderer was reasonably sure they wouldn’t be interrupted due their prior knowledge of the husband’s scheduled ADULTERY which, and I apologise if I haven’t mentioned this already, was part of a SERIES?

Wonder how much therapy it requires for the people who find dead bodies. I'd be traumatised and scarred for life.
I was the discoverer of what turned out to be a triple homicide November 2nd, 2019. I was 2 driveways from my remote home here in Alaska and glanced down a long driveway that lead to an unfinished, abandoned house and saw a women’s legs. Strangely enough, the first thought in my brain was that it was a Halloween decoration dumped (this was a common dumping ground unfortunately) or prank. Then I thought it was an overdose so I ran up to her to see if I could provide assistance or at least cover her and provide warmth, but it was evident that there was nothing that could be done the moment I got a full view. I was on the phone with my Dad at the time and I turned around to see another woman in the woods, also obviously dead. I didn’t ever see the man that was also a victim. The scariest part was the fact that, as I walked out of the driveway, I saw a car had pulled up and 2 people were getting out to see what was up. I told them what I had found and had called the police, and while they went to “take a look” a trooper pulled up. I learned later that those two people had actually been at the scene about 5 minutes before I had showed up. The neighbor directly next to the abandoned property had actually had a camera pointed directly at that driveway due to the frequent illegal activity there. I had chills when I saw them in the footage. They had walked up to and over the more obvious body without so much as batting an eye. It was obvious that they knew she was there and likely knew why. My security footage showed a car drive by at 1am the morning before, gunshots, and a man saying “hurry up”. The part that haunts me was the obvious whimpering of a female that could be heard. No arrests have been made and we sold our house as soon as we could to get our young family somewhere safer. Let’s just say that therapy was a must and if there is a trash bag or something on the side of the road, I feel like I could throw up and immediately panic. I’m not one to panic, so it’s safe to say it had some real repercussions in my everyday.

Everyone talked about in this part I just feel so bad for. The young girl who was stood up and then chased and murdered. The boy who stood her up having to live with the guilt that the crime may have never happened if he hadn't done that. The other girl who survived the shot and bled to death slowly after her attack knowing the others in her home were dead or dying. The man on a fishing trip coming home to be told his family was killed and then being blamed for it and threatened with the death sentence. So many people hurt by this and this is just part one!

Hogmanay is literally what we call New Year's in Scotland. I don't know if everyone does this or if it's just Scottish people but we make a meal and eat it with family. Usually this meal consists of Homemade Steak Pie, Carrots, Peas, Sweet Corn, Gravy, Roast Potatoes and sometimes Pigs in Blankets (sausages wrapped in bacon it's a Christmas food in the UK). It's a good dinner and is just something we do with family every year. I don't know if everyone does this but I know we do.
I know the guy that stood her up sucks for doing so, but I don’t think we should point out things like, “Had he not, she likely would still be alive.” I know he’s a douche but that’s straying towards victim-blaming kind of narratives to me.
No it isn't. It could've saved her if he maybe properly canceled or even if he showed up, maybe she wouldn't have been a target. It's all just opinions. We would never know.

You know what's Weird about all of this William Watt Case Sounds Very Similar To Chris Watts Case how he killed his whole family to run away With mistress.

But tbh, I didn't expect William would in fact be guilty, I only kinda expected, that he'd get an alibi from a mistress, he'd spend these days with in that hotel on the fishing trip.
Bc killing his whole family (including his wife's sister) and r*ping his own daughter didn't make any sense to me, if he was successfully having affairs his whole life long without having any problems with his own spouse.
I bet, Chris Watts was basically a virgin, when he met his wife, that's why he was so blown away by his new mistress.

Hogmanay is New Year’s Eve! It’s just our term for the holiday 😂 it’s very patriotic on Hogmanay in Scotland, back then especially! Lots of bagpipes, pipers, traditions etc take place on Hogmanay / when the bells go at new year

Back in the 50s people didn’t have cellphones to easily communicate. What if something had come up in her dates life so that he wasn’t able to make it? Or even if he did just stand her for no good reason, it’s not really an excuse to put him on blast basically insinuating that she’d be alive if it weren’t for him. I’m sure he felt guilty enough
