Totally mad I missed the opportunity to make a "Order Lomé-ein To-go" joke in the food section. Oh well.
This was an episode I had to do on-location. Togo has something very unique happening right now, and (despite the incredibly frustrating bureaucratic registrations and getting arrested for flying a drone) I had such an amazing time and saw the huge potential this small country has to thrive. Plus I totally ran crossed the narrowest (Accessible) Salient in Africa. HUGE thanks to Gilles for everything!

I’m a Ghanaian-American, and I always saw Togo as a cool place to visit because it’s right on the east of Ghana. But about 4 years ago I found out that my great grandmother on my dad’s mom’s side, was Togolese. So what happened was, my Great grandfather was Ghanaian and my great grandmother was Togolese. They had my grandmother, that made her half Togolese. She had my dad, that makes him a quarter Togolese. Then my sisters and I came along, and that made us an eighth Togolese. Thank you Geography Now 🇬🇭 🇹🇬

What separates Paul from other content creators is his depth. Depth of research, depth of relationships, depth of information, depth of respect all while keeping a light, fun, fast-paced, breezy tone. He could so easily mail it in on the small, obscure African countries and other remote places but this is actually where he and his channel shine brightest. Most Western people (including myself) know next to nothing about Togo, so these videos really are an introduction to an entire country and its complex and varied culture, physical landscape, political structure and international standing. So excited to see he's near 3 million subscribers. He's WORKED for every last one, never resorting to gimmicks and drama to build his brand. Rock on, Barbs!

Never in my life did i think i'd be seeing someone making a video about my Country😭😭. Though small, the land is beautiful with many diverse and amazing cultures just like any Country. Unfortunately tho, it's underdeveloped, the government is absolute trash, and the people themselves can sometimes be disappointing. Which is why you would find some things to be a bit disorganized and all over the place. It's frustrating for those of us abroad as well😭. The drone thing is new, it's simply because of all the coup d'états that have been happing in that area. Since we have a dictator, he obviously fears his position, sorry on their behalf. It makes me sad but i still love my Country to bits. Thank you very much for this video🤍
I think one of my personal favorite foods comes from our many corn to peanut combinations😩. Aboɖa which is boiled corn and peanuts, there are also fried and baked versions. And I know this is iffy, but when comes to what the "president" has done, there's not much. Internet sucks you can't talk to someone properly without the internet checking out at least once every 5 minutes. Trade? sure, roads? only benefits the upper class which is mostly only politicians and a few and i mean FEW entertainment personalities.
Also just a correction, Ewe people aren't Bantu, we're an Ethnic group just like the Akan and Bantu peoples and just like them we have different tribes and belong to different language groups. Bantu people are in the south and central regions of Africa, while we orginate mostly in the northeast

During when I was a teenager, my parish had a group of friars serve there for a few years. During this time one friar briefly visited from Togo. He was a kind fellow and one day toward the end of his stay gave a lesson in my AP Human Geography class (I went to a school run by my church) where he talked about growing up in Togo and learning languages (I remember he mentioned the Ewe language in particular; dunno if that was his native language or one he learned) and later also about continued French involvement in Togolese affairs.
Anyway best wishes to Togo and its citizens from here in the US
