I felt the pain of the character all the way through this film. One minute of wrongfully served jail time is too much. Think of the people who were wrongfully convicted and served decades in prison. Thanks to DNA technology many people are now being exonerated. My heart goes out to the people who are innocent yet are still in prison. In real life, it took Bobby a long time to rid himself of his demons. He went back to doing drugs and drinking. His marriage fell apart due to his addictions. The state of New York paid for his treatment from alcohol and drugs. He has recently come to terms with his past and seems to be on the right path. I wish him all the best. And, congratulations to Brendan Fraser for his Oscar win. He certainly deserves it.

Great movie of what can happen to someone that is accused of murder by one false witness encouraged by police or detective and prosectors when they did not do their job of not checking out the young man and not accepting the witnesses of Bobbies friends. Lots of innocent people have gone to prison because of people not doing their jobs fairly.. Happy for Bobby and his family..

This was Brandon's first break into movies and it's a horrendous topic, a real problem with innocent young guys in prison with grown men who don't stand a chance. Some never come out alive, some maimed for life, some with PTSD for life. This movie tells a good story, still relevant today, perhaps even moreso.

Anybody know how Bobby's photo was even in police files when the single witness was shown it? Ah ha.... For the record, I did my research myself... " ... the photograph was retrieved from police files where it had been placed after he had been arrested on an assault charge for which he was never convicted." I'm not trying to smear Bobby, no ,
.. I was just curious. My niece & her boyfriend are studying law. Also the case of Anthony Ray Hinton is very very heart wrenching, because he was sooo innocent, so fully wrongly put on death row in Alabama prison for 30+ years. Because of financial poverty he wasn't able to get a decent lawyer, and the evidence was such that even a deaf mute or blind person could understand how he did not in no way do the murder that was wrongly pinned on him. His book is out called "The Sun Does Shine" and his story is painful ... 3 decades on death row absolutely innocent. Lord have mercy. 🙏🏻

As a criminologist who worked in the system, we hate to admit that these things happen, but we know they do. It only takes one mistake somewhere in the process and it snowballs from there. The bright spot is the advent of sophisticated DNA tests that have helped clear many innocent people, even though it is long after the fact. The other bright spot is that this is a very rare event, but it is tragic when an innocent person is forced to serve time for something they did not do.
I thought it was a very accurate portrayal of a flawed system run by human beings, who sadly, sometimes make mistakes.

@@88tecia there is no such thing as a perfect parent, but seeing the obvious and deal with it without traumatizing the kid for doing something wrong like a normal kid will do, I wasn’t an angel either and I can say my kids got into mischief here and there, I think I’ve handled it a little better than my own parents did, I pay attention for one thing, and I try to learn from others mistakes 😁 God Bless you and have a Great day 🙏🏼

I can't help myself to cry watching the ending of this movie.. justice was served to an innocent man who was wrongly convicted a murder. The cop who arrested Bobby shd be punish & remove from service..& the one who pinpointed him as the murderer shd also be punish.
Thanks to the undying support of his foster parents especially his foster dad in gathering new facts & evidence that proved that he was innocent. Nice movie & great acting.

Oh man !...such a rollercoaster of emotions from beginnings to the end..I'm in tears...
What occurred should never had happened..failure to follow procedures created a web of imprisonment and deep heart rendering fear...this is the 'in'justis system that we are seeing more and more of...convenience over diligence...win stats over righteous prosecution...a nightmare that has shown its ugly head in many fields of occupation..but none so damaging as in the Halls of Justice...that this is a True Story makes it all the more appalling...
Brendan Fraser has always had my support as an actor..and this film was wrought with emotion...as he's recently began acting again..I wish him the very best of success and return to better health and the ability to endure the injures he's lived with these past many years...again caused by lax procedures to protect an actor...
God bless and keep you Brendan..💚🙏💚...🌿🌿🌿

This movie brought tears to my eyes but for different reasons . The fatherly love was something i always wanted . I too was a not so good boy growing up . Started smokingweed and drinking at the age of 13 . By the time i was 18 i had beeb throuhg every drug at that time . I eventually settled on heroin and cocaine. In and out of jail and prison for over 20 years . Never had dads support, but then again i was a bad person . The one thing though is one time i asked mom to bail me out for a possession charge and she did. The following day she told me she was going to pull the bail because dad told her to . I was so hurt , itsclose to teo years now that they have both passed . First mom then a couple months later dad . I miss her everyday, but i have no feelings for him . Its like he never existed to me and thats what brought tears to my eyes .

Heartbreaking. "Once!" Sadly, that is all it takes sometimes to mark our lives forever. It is better to think a thousand times before crossing the line, than to live your whole life wishing you could go back to that moment again to make the right choice this time. Whenever "just this once" crosses your mind, ask yourself why allow yourself to do something that isn't right?! And, if it is right, don't consider stopping because of what others say or think! Many blessings! Thanks for the post!

One thing I learned in my criminal justice courses was that eye witness testimonies are not reliable as evidences in prosecutions. In this movie it showed that the only so called evidence against Bobby and maybe the other guy way the eye witness' testimony. They never stated they had the weapons with finger prints or the victims DNA. To this day many innocent people are in prison based on faulty eye witnesses testimonies. Glad Bobby's parents kept going to get him free. I just love true stories there's always a lesson to be learned from them.

I just saw a Documentary on death row. This one guy who was to die within a month, but there were 2 girls her thought his was Innocent, come to find out 2 days before execution they were right and proved he wasn't guilty, and was let out. He did have to wear a ankle bracelet until his new trial. That took 4 years before he was exonerated of murder. Thank God the 2 girls dug into his case or he would of been murdered by the courts. Rarely will they overturn a death penalty! I think it was 48 hrs Death Row??
    Check it out.

Just happy to see or amazed to see that the son did not swear to his dad.
So happy to see that America had some moral back then and dad had power to scold his son.
Now teens must say F, F, F to their parents in any American movie without any reason even.
Actors, directors, movie companies must feel ashamed.

A story well told with good acting all round. The fitst trial showed that cops, lawyers , judges and juries are inept and unreliable. If not for those wonderfully wise and loyal parents what would have happened?
To think that so many innocent people have been incarcerated due to ineptness.

When the victim is asked to point to the person who had allegedly committed the crime against him, he just has to point to one of the defendants sitting right in front of the court.
