@ Exactly, CSE within families is already terrible enough. We can’t be having organised gangs grooming, drugging, trafficking and torturing young at risk girls for years en masse. Organised crime should be easier to find and stamp out than within family abuse. I get you’re trying to come from a good place, but be careful about putting political correctness above tackling a problem

The thumbnail “What Really Happened” The title “The Truth About Rotherham Grooming Gangs” This 51 minute video does not mention what happened beyond what the title tells us and is focused on the effect the far right have had on the Rotherham Muslim/Pakistani community. Why mislead us with this title and thumbnail?
Mostly agree: This great interview is masked behind a really poor title. Surely there are better click-bait titles (if needed) that would amplify Abrar's voice and actually align with the main solid theme in the content? I suspect someone in the Novara team just watched the intro section before naming and uploading: pity they didn't focus on the far-right violence and small town themes mentioned - or apparently failed to watch the video - and locked in on a poor choice of CSE. Or drop the click-bait and focus on how police lack of community alignment is failing Rotherham. That said, it would be worth making another interview with Abrar taking the background thread of comments in the sections at 8:20 and 13:16 and 17:38 and 42:00 implying that subtle/ inherent racism in the police lead to poor police choices and inaction that led to the gangs length of activity, specific victims being ignored, and unnecessary street violence. Extending that with other specific interviewer questions to get deeper would potentially make a good CSE focused interview.
The dude is lying through his teeth. The number of victims were more than a thousand and many were abused by dozens of men, in a minority of a few thousand people in a medium sized town. So without being able to make an exact calculation a very large part of all men from this minority must have been involved in this behaviour. This was not a bombshell. Everyone knew what was going on and noone in this community did sqat all about it. The only bombshell is that there are suddenly consequences. And this guy is blaming absolutely everyone but his own group. Accusing the cops of failing to protect the children... From his own neighbours. And after all that happened the interviewer doesnt question him once. Despicable.
Nice way to phrase it. I’d have put compassion in quotation marks. I’m not sure how genuinely compassionate they are or if genuine compassion can be that selective.
@ I asked you a question! A simple question in fact: to which "common sense" - your words and hence the quotation marks in the original - are they blind? Do I need to draw picture?
@@finisheseverythi haha exactly! They think it is super clever to pretend they have misunderstood to draw you into some silly conversation where they dance around the truth while cherry picking facts.
I'm a leftist, but no offence, I'm "phobic" of Islam too. And I think that all decent people, including those of Muslim backgrounds, should be also. Because it's not a phobia, that fear is well justified.
You are victim of propaganda then. The left have censored the topic around this. The right have lobbied that this is indicative of the entire Islamic community. Look for the details yourself. Millions of Muslims live in peace and work just like millions of British people do. Does more need to be done in the Muslim community to tackle archaic and monstrous attitudes towards young women. Yes it does. The left continue to censor rather than have an open debate. The right are tarring everybody with the same brush. Which from the perspective of the left is a bigger danger to society. It’s a shitshow and the lines have already been drawn.
Always suspicious when they use the excuse “we don’t want to be seen to be racist”… it’s never stopped any Police force in this country, so why would they fear this… also no organised crime can happen without senior Police knowledge… the fact that senior officials are still to this day involved in CSE says it all really. Stoking racial tensions is just a smoke screen to protect the powerful Saville level elite predators. Media keep supporting the racial grooming gangs excuse and letting the top tier of CSE in Britain go unchallenged.
@heidipeterson4723 well in some cases they actually delivered the girls back to their abusers, and / or allowed these men to continue on their journeys with the girls in the car after being stopped by police So yea, some of them were as good as pimps
This is also about poverty and class. The victimised young girls were not helped by the white community - one of them reported being called a "little slag" by a white police officer when she went to beg - not ask, beg - for help. Imagine if Pakistani taxi drivers had targeted 11 and 12 year old girls from a local private school. I think they'd have been nicked in very quick time, don't you?
@@oldishandwoke-ish1181 true but it was mainly about political correctness and avoiding being accused of racism for investigating Muslims (a protected class). Also to avoid creating racial tensions.

Where is 'the truth about Rotherham grooming gangs'? The title of this video is incorrect. Why did the interviewer not delve deeply into the grooming and what led to it? Disappointing.

Sorry mate, maybe this video gets better but a pretty awful start. Should probably talk about the topic you claim in the title within the first 5 minutes.
Half English half Pakistani person here, I’m sorry but there is an issue with that stuff in the Pakistani community, not Islam itself, look up Bacha Bazi, there is a cultural element to this, mainly centred on Pakistan and Afghanistan, and on top of that, there is absolutely an issue of silence in the community. @@gailforce the Jay report said 1.400. I wonder if this neoliberal reporter tried speaking to her? I bet a pound to a penny he didn't because it doesnt fit his warped narrative

Yeah do I really need to watch this. Sounds like it is going to be somewhere along the lines of 'Well white people commit crimes as well' and we're the real victims' bla bla and the usualy excuses.
Where I disagree with Abrar is that there was a systemic failure to do anything about the Rochdale grooming gang. That's why it became so controversial. Not necessarily because the perpetrators were Pakistani. That was a later narrative that developed from the failure of the police, social services and local council to do anything. That's NOT the fault of the entire Pakistani community. That's on the aforementioned services, but some people then ask "Why didn't those services act sooner?" That's also why some people want full transparency when a knife attack has been reported. The Rochdale grooming scandal has made some of them suspicious that the services aren't doing their job. That's why you end up with 'two tier policing' myths. A lot of the initial failures in Rochdale emerged from the unwillingness of the police to believe working-class girls from chaotic and dysfunctional families. Once again, that's NOT a failure of the left or Pakistani society as a whole. But there were also some claims that the council failed to act on allegations because they didn't want to cause a rift with local minority communities. If that is remotely true, then that's where the identities of the perpetrators does become relevant, because it means some people were loathe to do anything about these men for fear of being accused of systemic racism. That's where the left and even members of the Pakistani community have to be helpful and leave off from making any accusations of 'racism', in order to avoid hindering an investigation, because, guess what? If racism is as bad as we all say it is (and it is), that's precisely why no-one wants to be wrongly accused of racism. You can't say as some leftists have done that "racism is worse than being accused of racism". If racism is bad, and it is, then it's clearly bad to be accused of it.
That's a great comment. If any of the council workers or police staff received Equality and Diversity Training in the early 2000s then they would have been subject to essentially cultural relativity training, and encouraged not to question or challenge. I left the Equality and Diversity training industry quickly.
listen, if authorities are afraid to upset sensibilities for fear of being stigmatised as a racist, or fear repercussions around privacy or whatever else, under normal circumstances it might seem reasonable, but we are talking about child endangerment here. most people would risk their lives if they thought a child was in danger... its just different. There really is no excuses, police and local authorities should have done and should be doing more.
@@zafar0132 I dont think anyone is making excuses for them. Policing is a lot worse elsewhere, but here they have been awful all round for years. For quite a long time now youtubers have picked very specific titles and ways of presenting things in order to get the most traffic possible, engagement and all that; the Right mastered this very quickly to the lefts deteriment. In the last few years the left have been doing the same to kick back most notably Owen Jones does it. Anyway, he totally did address it, did you watch and pay attention to any the video at all?
It is absolutely necessary to focus on the funding of the creation and maintenance of the EDL. Organisations such as the EDL cannot function without outside funding and promotion. Always follow the money to know the truth.
There's a short video from the girls' point of view. "Rotherham abuse scandal report: 'We were ignored and this was covered up' says Samantha Woodhouse". Other videos can be found of Mark Steyn interviewing Samantha Woodhouse.
I have sympathy with this guy on a number of levels, but as a "representative of the Muslim community" of Rotherham it didn't feel like he spent so much as a second actually acknowledging the widespread abuses members of that community perpetrated against children. Yes it is fine to point out that you have been victimised, and it is fair to attack local authorities, but not even acknowledging the problem within the community you represent once in a 50 minute video? Startling lack of humility. You just point the finger everywhere other than at your own community, amongst whom this behaviour was wildly out of proportion.
Did the entire community abuse those kids? Do you think the average Rotherham Pakistani wants men from their own community out abusing their own kids? Honestly this is just "I'm not racist but" in way more words.
On what basis do you say that 'it was wildly out of proportion'? A minuscule number of people were involved compared to the Muslim population of Rotherham.
@@glasp-q8n There are about 110,000 people in Rotherham. 10% Muslim, = 11,000 Muslims. 60 convictions to date, = prevalence of 0.5%. This is far higher than in the general population. Bear in mind the latest statistics have only around 8,000 people in the ENTIRE COUNTRY currently imprisoned for this kind of offense. I am not saying this is replicated across the country, I am saying that in the Muslim community of Rotherham specifically it was absolutely rife and we can't just sweep that under the rug (as has been attempted here).
Community leaders should be coming out in condemnation of the groomers. This would take the wind out of the sales of the protesters and join the diverse community with one cause defending the innocent.
It would help. There needed to be inclusive marches following the grooming scandals that didn't discriminate on the basis of religion or race, but simply demonstrated a united front against grooming gangs, and stood with any government agency that investigates them and holds them to account.
@@Thebaldocelot Agreed. I don't want to see Muslims and South Asians stigmatised and obliged to speak for something that's (1) perpetrated by people of all religions and races and (2) is only perpetrated by a minority of Muslims and South Asians, but the Rochdale grooming scandal was so disturbing, mostly because the authorities failed to do anything for so long, that it would be in every communities' interests to openly display their outrage and contempt for these abuses.
Disgraceful video, if Novara had any decency, it'd take it down immediately. "So called" grooming gangs ? There's the early giveaway. Where is his condemnation of his fathers and unkles ? Is he or his 'Association" offering any sympathy, let alone compensation, to and for these children ?
It's a clever linguistic trick to use the acronym CSE to try and minimise the horrors of what happened : Gang rapes, murders, kidnapping and torture by a sizeable percentage of one particular community that stuck together and refused to help those victims.
In some cases they were litterally tortured and kept in cages and forced to eat dog food.whikst being gang raped by huge numbers of the Pakistani community every day. How does the anagram CSE convey such horrors. It would be better if they used the full term Child Secual Explotation but instead they mention it a couple of times and then just refer to it in the more abstracted term after that. At no point does he even admit that thr community bears any responsibility. They want to stick together in defending their community but never when it comes to accountability for heinous crimes that a great many of them would have been aware of.
This is the first time I've seen an attempt to whitewash the Rotherham grooming gang scandal. But this is standard practice these days. Over the coming years and decades the horrors will be watered down, and conflated, and twisted and so in 20-30 years time it will probably be reported as something completely different

Is this truly an exposé on grooming gangs, as the title suggests, or is it, in reality, a documentary aimed at scrutinising the far-right? It seems that the issue of predominantly Pakistani grooming gangs and the systemic failures of the authorities to address or expose them is an uncomfortable truth for Novara. Rather than confronting this deeply troubling reality and being a voice for the victims, you appear to want to almost desperately shift the focus toward an endless vilification of the right.

@JustAUsername-i5l I think that's the point. Most people don't have teh time/patience/ability to filter through HO reports. That's wh yjournalism, when done well, ios so important
The population of Rotherham in 2014 was 110,000. 8% of this Asian, so ca. 9,000. Without women and children that's about 3,500 men. 1,400 girls were abused in that town. This is indeed such an upstanding and unjustly vilified community.
I suspect many of them won't want to be interviewed, although I could be wrong. I think it's definitely worth speaking to them but what angle are you looking for? Most media, left and right, is, unfortunately, narrative-based. This isn't a documentary channel per se. It isn't concerned simply with reporting cold objective facts. A lot of its intent is to challenge right-wing or mainstream narratives, so, how would such a hypothetical interview with these girls do that?

A sensible and reasonable man, giving a thoughtful and balanced account of some aspects of life in his community. I would take issue with only one thing. ‘Allahu Akbar’ can be spoken in quieter tones during prayerful praise (or more loudly/melodically by a Muezzin during the Muslim call to prayer). It can also be shouted loudly (and aggressively) as a war cry (as did the early Muslims when going into battle against the Pagans). The difference is immediately obvious to the ear, and the demeanour to the eye. Please don’t gaslight people in an attempt to disguise this simple truth.
Perpetrators have to be held responsible no brainer by the justice system but it is unjust to label and ruin the reputation and lives of an entire culture just because the perpetrators are from a certain background as it would be for people of any colour, race, background. Which is a distortion of the actual reality and reporting.
Abrar Javid is a rare voice of balance and understanding in a world of increasingly polarised partisan outrage. We need more voices like his. If we're ever going to defuse our growing societal tensions, bridge the growing chasms and make useful change for the better, we need to break tribal thinking and stop outraged spectators becoming fuel for more division.
One thing all these CSE men, whether white, Pakistani, Christian, or Muslim, conveniently forget to mention is that they have one VERY important thing in common with each other. Take a guess. I already mentioned the word.
I don’t understand how anyone sees the logic in comparing statistics of immigrant abuse with native abuse. If the immigrants weren’t here in the first place the overall abuse would be lower. It’s not ok to give the people that have been given a home in this country a free pass because they statistically abuse less than the native population. Also, if you take into account the numbers of abuse cases based on the demographic size, the Muslim communities have a higher rate of offence per head.
My personal memory of when this story broke was that in the news at that time there was a lot of talk of establishment child abuse rings in the highest rungs of power. If you remember there was supposed to be an enquiry about the scandal but it never happened bc "reasons". The story was eventually "debunked" and memory holed never to be brought up again. My thought at the time was it a classic case of don't look at politicians, royalty etc, look at Muslim taxi drivers up North instead?
Child Abuse is an abhorrent crime. Targeting Pakistani's is not the answer and avoids dealing with the crime by perpretators from other groups such as the financial elite etc.

I didn't like the start of the video talking about "so called", when talking about real proveable events. Then using the word pogroms, which has a whole history of meaning behind it. It was an attack on a Mosque, distasteful disgraceful etc. But let's not start hyping it up for clout. Normally when people say lets find the real story they talk to the victims. It's obvious you had an agenda with this video. Blame it all on the far right. Shoddy journalism.
It's dishonest language like that that makes people distrust all media, whether mainstream or alternative, left or right wing. People are sick of the obvious manipulation and dishonesty.
It wasn't "a" attack on "a" mosque. It was organised and plan riots throughout English and Northern Irish towns/cities where they know the Muslim population is a minority where they targeted the mosqueS (with an s, plural) of those areas and ethnic minorities through physical, verbal abuse and physical intimidation.
You got it perfectly. There's a world of nuance and cautious language in one case, but everyone is a far right racist when the boot's on the other foot. Anti-racism is absolutely right but it doesn't mean unthinkingly acting like some communities are beyond reproach.
When there ARE literally far right people out there attacking businesses, vandalising homes, surrounding mosques, telling people "you're White, you can pass through here", based almost entirely on misinformation, then you need to call it as you see it.
You're setting up a strawman and you must have not even really listened to what he is saying because in the very first couple minutes of the video, he literally addressed that, and no one is saying 'this community is beyond reproach'.

I've always felt that the simplest explanation was that some police were in cahoots with the gangs.
That's a great comment. If any of the council workers or police staff received Equality and Diversity Training in the early 2000s then they would have been subject to essentially cultural relativity training, and encouraged not to question or challenge. I left the Equality and Diversity training industry quickly.

It's a clever linguistic trick to use the acronym CSE to try and minimise the horrors of what happened : Gang rapes, murders, kidnapping and torture by a sizeable percentage of one particular community that stuck together and refused to help those victims.
CSE sounds horrific, how does it minimize those horrors?
CSE actually sounds way worse than 'grooming gang'.

It can also be shouted loudly (and aggressively) as a war cry (as did the early Muslims when going into battle against the Pagans). The difference is immediately obvious to the ear, and the demeanour to the eye. Please don’t gaslight people in an attempt to disguise this simple truth.

31:56 but you DO want sharia courts, and cousin marriages… its even been requested in parliament!
Good interviewee though, he should raise his case and debate someone from the opposing view.
I respect this content, but I think from an outside perspective that going on for a 30m about far right then saying you dont believe in sides was probably not the ideal way to go about it.
However I appreciiate the clarity about the actual demographic of protestors.
The actual problem with nearly all narriatives is institutional failure, without transparency and now you have active hostility to any dialogue as the government, media and general discourse has become so poisoned by political rhetoric and polemics.
The videos of police conversing respectfully with muslims, crack down on "islamaphobia" (what even is that) and locking up people for social media gaffs is going to see the palace burn id say.
Thank you Richard - great interview. Abrar, is amazing this should be compulsory viewing . The way Abrar explains everything, speaks to us all. British born Pakistani Muslim, without any particular political leaning, against divisive measures, showing that the struggle is real, for us all! That we should be coming together as the working class -stronger together. Abrar is an amazing community leader, he has a way of looking at things that bring us all together. A very inspiring example of integration and social unity which is much needed in society today. I hope to see and hear a lot more from Abrar.
Seems like word salad.
Where’s the Muslim outrage to the gang rape scandal?
I actually got to like NM for a while … and I agree with many subjects ( including the Middle East ) but this makes me want to vomit …
I really don’t know your motives for this type of stuff …
It's a desire to be anti-racist which ends up becoming an uncritical, unthinking siding with minorities regardless of what's actually happened in the case in question.
Maybe you should actually listen to what is said with an open mind and deconstruct some of the subconscious biases you have picked up over time...
@@scythermantisI’m fine with my upbringing and morals thanks… I don’t need to analyse myself … nevertheless thanks for your rather arrogant advice …
@mousaka878 it's a first step in conflating grooming gangs with other sick sections of society. Like the far right.
It's a way of watering it down. Blending it all into one. Taking responsibility away from the section of society that actually did this and allowed it to happen and sharing that responsibility broadly across us all
Yes grooming gangs were bad butwhatabout......
@@mousaka878Don’t your upbringing or morals were attacked. Most of us have biases, being aware of that fact doesn’t make a lesser person.
This site reaches depths so low I never thought possible.
As humans we have as many similarities as we have differences.
What is the actual definition of Far Right???? Does anyone actually know??
It's fairly easy to Google the definition.....
You give it a crack friend
Those that attack others based on race
A really interesting interview, with some great insight, a very wise man. However this is totally the wrong title - misleading, though atm I can’t think of a suitable one, sorry!
Thank you for this interview
Taqqiya is a thing.
Not in the UK it isn't. Freedom of religion.
Being hypocrite is another 😅😅
Factoid........... Pakistan has over 236 Million adherents of Islam. As much as 90% of the population follows Sunni Islam.
