I love seeing Elsa in your videos, she reminds me of my childhood dog "Smoky". I am aware from watching your more recent videos that she has passed on now. I am 71, and have been afflicted by "Cronic Fatigue Syndrome" for thirty years , but by watching your videos makes me feel Iike I am able to do what I could before then, even though I am older. Thank you for documenting and sharing your wonderful experiences.
Thanks Nora, Yes sadly Elsa has now passed on, she was such a beautiful dog and ideal for taking camping. I now have two new dogs, Carmen and Zeta, both are rescue dogs, though they will never replace Elsa I love them just the same:)
Poor little Elsa was pooped by the time you got to the site, she couldn't wait for you to set up a bed for her. They love their adventures no matter how old they are, but they just can't do as much when they get to an age. Nice video, thank you very much!
wauw, that ancient monument is just awesome; old things have a soul, i think your knives, manmade as they are, have it too, gotta order one i think, i like the way you set up your camp. Great against the wind. I have seen everyone called you Sandy, no Jack, my mistake.
Brilliant. Really enjoyed watching that Sandy, the sound of the birds in the morning was lovely to hear. A great adventure. Great stove as well. Top viewing. Thank you Sandy for some good wholesome outdoors viewing.
Hi Sandy. Thank you for another great video. I have just watched Joe's video. After watching yours obviously, because I had never seen his channel before you introduced him. Anyhow, two great video's from two true gentlemen. It was great to see your two different video's on the same camp. They are both different, and interesting, and great. Thank you. I hope Elsa survived OK with the cold night. She looked like she didn't want to get out of that sleeping bag. :) PS Please read my comment on Joe's video.
Got to always put the welfare of my dog first John) That sleeping bag cost me $250 and I don't mind if ny dogs makes it's dirty. Just so long as she stays warm:)
We had to kick our Dachshund out of our bed when he turned 8 years old. He started snorning like an old drunk homeless person. We put him in the corner with an old blanket of ours.
Hi Sandy just watching a few of your old vids.. Sorry for your loss this week how very sad. My thoughts are with you at this sad time. I hope you find comfort on your next trip out. May your memories of him burn bright in your next camp fire. Atb John. W Sussex.
Prime spot you guys found there Sandy...those Laurels come in handy for us stealth campers for cover. Elsa looked lovely and toasty once you'd set up, lovely companion. And that curry...looked lovely ;)
Thank you Sandy, the lovely Elsa and Joe who is almost as lovely for this marvellous Easter treat :) Great food and a beautiful dawn chorus to wake up to. Nature embraces us when we embrace "it" :)
OMG how fantastic. We went there as part of a school outing to Uffington castle and the white horse roughly 35 years ago from 2020. Great to see it again. :-)
Thankyou Sandy - my Trangia is also my favourite bit of kit - once you've mastered the simmer technique, it opens up a whole new world of slow cooked goodness - even perfectly fried eggs in the frying pan!
I always enjoy your videos and the best part of this video was the drive home. The look on Elsa's face when she saw the camera - priceless! Atb - Luther
Another great vid Sandy on my home turf, wonderful...just buried grandma in that churchyard last week. If I'm not mistaken you were in 'triangular wood'. havent been there in 13 or 14 years..You were camped on a huge roman settlement....also the area was used as a bombing range during the second world war, there are loads of ordinance there to be found. It was the exploding ordinance that uncovered the romano british settlements in the area during the war.
Sorry to hear about Grandma Kit. Actually the older we get the less fear death has. Grandma may well be wide awake now and it could be us who sleep? There was some interesting features in the ground close by the camp. I will skype you later to talk about it. Sandy
Hi Sandy; good to meet you Joe. The countryside in your part of the world sure is beautiful. It always looks cool and damp Very interesting. Love the history. I get lost in thought when I see places like this. Your shelter and campsite look comfy. Even a washing station. Great hoop bevy with hoop. No thermosrest mat for Joe tonight!. Hearty meal for you guys. Happy Easter. Peace, Ken
Happy Easter Ken, We have had such a cold and damp winter you would not have enjoyed it much with the raynaud's syndrome but warmer months are ahead now. I can't wait:) Sandy
Great to see you down to earth again Sandy, your stove did indeed serve you well. Really nice little film, you make a great team the three of you. Harry. flying haggis film
I can vouch for meths being difficult to light when cold. In Canada in the winter below -10c it becomes very inefficient unless very well insulated from the cold and -20c it’s not worth using it. There is a pre-heater attachment from Trangia for use in the very cold but for me I tend to cook on a fire at those temps as it provides warmth and a place to cook. Thank you for the great video, reminds me of home :) best wishes Michael & Esme (the dog)
Great camping vid Sandy. Looks like it was a great time. Been following your channel for a while now and really enjoy your stuff. I’ve loved England all my life; I lived in Yorkshire when I was a boy and loved it there. I made a solo return trip last year and was surprised over and over again by how much was familiar, the smell of the country, the grass, the small villages. Sometimes I cried when I saw something I haven’t seen since I was 9. Spent a day on the C2C and had a great walk with lovely weather. Yorkshire is very deep in my heart and I will come back again. I often think I would like to live there again. I do a lot of hiking and camping in my home state of Arkansas so we’re brothers in the woods. Hope to see more from you. Cheers from Patrick in Arkansas.
Cheers Patrick, Glad to know you have fondness in your heart for your homeland. Yorkshire is a beautiful county and quite diverse. The folk are warm and friendly too:)
I found the information regarding the mushrooms fascinating! I was watching a show about plants how they "scream" when cut or severed and I'll use that term loosely, relationships and electrical impulses. Yay Elsa girl, looking good! Really enjoyed this one, thanks a bunch. Happy Easter to you and yours.
Just found your channel. Great content and I’ve just bought a Trangia 27 duasol, can’t wait to get out and try it. Seriously tempted to get a Dutch hooped Bivvi . Keep up the good work
Its great to see you out and about hope to see more thanks for taking us alone with you enjoyed watching wish you all the very best until next time my friend may God bless you and your family
Enjoyed the video sandy my meths burner has never let me down .I even used it at the summit of scafell pike on the weekend and it boiled the kettle for me and my m8 to have a coffee . It was absolutely freezing up there in the wind and the snow .😊😊😊
Wonderful trip and a nice amount of information in this video! A really nice piece of land. From my time in England i have the nicest memories from my backpacking time.
Nice little trip! This past winter I used my Trangia stove in cold weather. Yes, I'd definitely say that it took a bit of effort to get the alcohol to light, but this was at around -15 to -20 C. In warmer temps I can light up the burner with a ferro rod.
Love my Trangia ul as well! Such a versatile cook kit but a little heavy but when you think what it contains it's not so bad. Food looked nice and doggie happy in your bag lol! ATB Rob
A long and perfect video. Thank you it was great. Superb high definition. I have the hooped bivvy and my jack Russell sleeps in the hooped head end very happily. I made her her own sleeping bag from and old sleeping bag and sewed a foam mat into the bottom. It rolls up for transport great.
I always look forward to your videos, and having both Joe and Elsa in the video make it even better. Thanks for what you do and the way you do it. I'm headed to Joe's video next...
Always happy to see you having a good time camping. Also wanted to update you on my wife and I passed our technician exams and I am now KE8JEC and my wife is KE8JED
Nice wild camp, nice set ups, I always use trangia or lixada alcohol stove now. Cooked all kinds on it. Hardly ever use gas now. Cracking video as always ⛺👍
great vid as usual sandy, looking forward to the new season. im going on a road trip across canada end of this month, from the bottom of brittish columbia zigzagging across it to the yukkon and on to the rest of the 7 provinces, camping and vanning. time to explore everything before i leave!!cant wait, once in alifetime oppertunity.if this winter ever ends, been 7months of snow now in alberta, its a bit much!!
Sounds like your in for a grand adventure. Yes 7 months of Winter is hard. It's been a long cold and damp winter here in the UK too. A mini ice age is looming?
Hi Sandy, just watched this episode on my night shift and as usual very enjoyable and informative viewing so thanks for that. My Jetboil flash stopped working recently when I was on a solo WC near the top of Pen Y Fan, so rather than spend the night there with a cold all day breakfast and a bottle of lucozade decided to bugger off home. I found a site that sells just the burner assembly for the JB which halves the price of getting a new one but in the meantime have been thinking of getting a Trangia to try out, possibly the mini to start with.... 21 bucks at Millets for a bomb proof piece of kit...can't go wrong really...anyway thought I'd share that with you lol. ATB, Mark :)
When I pack the pot grabber across the top of the kettle I have noticed a slight impression in the fry pan. I have put a disk cut from a thin plastic lid to protect it. I guess the strainer disk would have been a good idea. In the 25 series the handle will fit in the kettle I believe.
Great video guys, nice review on trangia as everyone is a little different yet very effective.Whats better than an outing with some friends and a great meal.Job well done
Once again a very interesting and informative video.. Thanks for posting. It's been many years since I last walked the Ridgeway, from Avebury to Ivinghoe and even longer since I camped at the Smithy.
Sounds wonderful Mate! Probably a good time to do it before it gets too crowded Challenging too with temperatures still close to freezing at night on the higher ground.
Nice tarp config Sandy. I got the same one - from the same people, which I had on our camp. In fact it was really good to see that village again. I did enjoy that. Nature is amazing! Thanks for the stories and knowledge and that great dawn chorus. Even better was that quick undo of the knot. What knot was that? Good going Sandy - have a great week. Mark
Hi Mark, The knot is called "The Farrimond friction hitch" One knot really worth knowing:). Yes the tarp is the same as yours. After seeing yours on our Bivi camp I decided to buy one and very well pleased I am with it too:) Mark, nature is amazing. It's more than amazing and I think bigger than anyone knows! Sandy
I watched all the way through. Thank you kind Sir. 1) Good to see Weyland Smithy again. I was mesmerised, captured and enthralled the last time you filmed here. Obviously a special place and one I would like to visit, explore and admire. I admire and enjoy that you are recording history in your own way Sandy. One day the people will be thankful for your efforts. 2) Dew Ponds and the Romans ???? What have the Romans ever done for us ? 3) Farm land ? Every family needs a farmer 4) Modulate the flame. Really Sandy ? You can be assured I really do watch all the video... Since you mentioned modulation, it is clear that the 47 minute CW video in the Bison Tundra is warranted. Don't deny yourself - get out there and record it in all its wondrous glory. 5) Sandy, Do you know how many folk hear the dawn chorus ? It's less than 1% of the population. You are all the more rich for hearing and experiencing the dawn chorus. 6) He who is closest to nature wins.
This is true Ade. I am the more richer for hearing the birds sing:) I hope I get to hear many more dawn choruses they are wondrous. Hoping to get out for a /p radio ops video soon. Sandy
I also like the sound of HF background noise, along with static crash and the melodious tones of CW for hours and hours. And when you get down under you'll be exposed to nature and radio.
Always good to see you out on a camp Sandy, I need to get my hooped bivi out for an airing, it's bin a while and meths is my go to also mate, can't fault it really, cheers Sandy and atb to you and Mandy 👍🏻🇬🇧
I am very impressed with my hooped Bivi Paul. The zip is a little weak and mine did break apart but I lubricated the zip and sorted it and all OK now. Joe has modded his hooped bivi with a much stronger zip. Sandy
Wiltshire Man Candle wax mate for sticky zips 👌🏻 my double hooped bivi is front entrance but no hassle to get in/out and mesh so can see out, there brilliant bits of small, lightweight waterproof kit and I need to use mine more, cheers mate 👍🏻🇬🇧
Another great video Sandy . I enjoy watching your treks around the lush , beautiful English countryside . Are you still hamming , I don't see much on ham radio anymore ? I drift in and out of the hobby myself so maybe you are just taking a break . 73 . Bob N7BDY
Great video Sandy and I've decided that from this video I'm going to start watching as soon as you have upload. I'm still going to watch the older one's but there's so many it will take ages so at least by watching the latest video's I'm kinda up to date😁👍
Wiltshire Man that is true the new video's are better but it's still good to watch the older one's you sort of get to know the person better. I'm sure your a very busy man but when you got the time check out one of my video's I recommend a recent one the high willhays snow camp I think you might enjoy it I got a couple of snow storm timelaps there to😁👍
Great video Sandy. Funny how you took you Trangia UL 27 out with you as I have just been looking at on of these. As I have mentioned a few times, not a fan of buying gas cans, to much waist therefore not environmentally friendly, plus after my recent failure with my Primus stove in the snow! I’m not sure if it was you that told me this will work down to minus 40 degrees C. Liking the clean section of calk path but I didn’t like the look of that bogie section, that could play havoc if I do plan to wear trainers! See you soon, Ant 😉
Regarding the walk Ant, prepare for the worst but hope for the best! April can be a funny month! Trangia 27 is a good cooker, not super light weight though but got for a "Happy camp". You me and Si will have to get a Good ol Wiltshire camp in soon. Joe Noel and anyone else is welcome to join us:))
lovely vid, sir, I really liked the spot where the cute dog gave you that look like sod it all I want a nap,LOL!, I've never had any problems with the trangia ether and I use heet all year long. look forward to seeing more of your vids, atb , J.
how have you found the trangia pans hold up long term? i have one of the swedish army mess kit's and i like it apart from the top pan with the handle gets red hot when you try and lift it off the stove. i have found that my burner when it is full of fuel lets off gasses and taints my pots so have had to store it separate from my cook pot. me and a friend had a good over night camp in a local secret spot, we had a great night with a fire and some cider. thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks Nora, Yes sadly Elsa has now passed on, she was such a beautiful dog and ideal for taking camping. I now have two new dogs, Carmen and Zeta, both are rescue dogs, though they will never replace Elsa I love them just the same:)
Great video Sandy. Love how your little mate is having a kip!
Thank you so much for showing your camps. It's the next best thing to being out myself.
Poor little Elsa was pooped by the time you got to the site, she couldn't wait for you to set up a bed for her. They love their adventures no matter how old they are, but they just can't do as much when they get to an age. Nice video, thank you very much!

The master Knive Builder in the woods bush crafting !! Wonderful !!
Can't wait to got out next weekend for a solo woodland camp in my new oex tent ...looking forward to seeing more of your trail camera videos mate ..
Brilliant. Really enjoyed watching that Sandy, the sound of the birds in the morning was lovely to hear. A great adventure. Great stove as well. Top viewing. Thank you Sandy for some good wholesome outdoors viewing.
You are most welcome:)
Hi Sandy. Thank you for another great video. I have just watched Joe's video. After watching yours obviously, because I had never seen his channel before you introduced him.

Great trip Sandy! I love how your dog was sleeping in the sleeping bag.
Got to always put the welfare of my dog first John) That sleeping bag cost me $250 and I don't mind if ny dogs makes it's dirty. Just so long as she stays warm:)
Wiltshire Man I hear that I just love my lil Pomeranian I’ve had him 15 years so far. He is family member for sure.
you don't need a fantastic sleep system if you have a dog, they snuggle up next to you and act like a big furry hot water bottle!
We had to kick our Dachshund out of our bed when he turned 8 years old. He started snorning like an old drunk homeless person. We put him in the corner with an old blanket of ours.
enjoyed the Easter camp , really great to see you & Joe & lil Elsa together again :-)
Hearing the birds with a cold nose and all senses = wonderful = alive = in tone with the Earth.. Great video
Got to get some Nature bro. It's good for you:) I need it anyway!!
when you touch a dogs nose and its cold. its happy. just like us humens. Great job mate your videos make me happy.
Got to treat myself to a Trangia without my misses knowing!! Great video Sandy, Loved the birdsong. Off to watch Joe's video PEACE :-)
They are quite expensive around £70 I think but they will last a lifetime.
Hi Sandy just watching a few of your old vids.. Sorry for your loss this week how very sad. My thoughts are with you at this sad time. I hope you find comfort on your next trip out. May your memories of him burn bright in your next camp fire. Atb John. W Sussex.

Thanks Paul. Yes Elsa is lovely:)) Joe has many good ideas like the wash station and the hooped bivi mods. A clever chap.
Wiltshire Man Yes Sandy Joe has shared a number of great ideas with more to come of that I am sure :) There is always plenty to learn and share :)
OMG how fantastic. We went there as part of a school outing to Uffington castle and the white horse roughly 35 years ago from 2020. Great to see it again. :-)
Great camp/cook video and a bit of history too, nice.
I really like your tarp setup.
Good to see your dog is with you again, I remembered she was a bit ill in december.
Keep them posting.
Thx
Enjoy your videos immensely. So happy I found you.
Nice to see proper food being cooked. Looks great and love the bivi set up! Thanks for sharing.
Thankyou Sandy - my Trangia is also my favourite bit of kit - once you've mastered the simmer technique, it opens up a whole new world of slow cooked goodness - even perfectly fried eggs in the frying pan!
Yes the simmer ring does make it very versatile. I love my Trangias:)
Nice little camp site, the scenery is beautiful. The Trangia is a reliable burner.
Great film guys. Trangias are brilliant bits of kit 👍👍
I always enjoy your videos and the best part of this video was the drive home. The look on Elsa's face when she saw the camera - priceless! Atb - Luther
All the makings of a good camp Sandy and, the birds songs were lovely. :) ATB..........Les
I thought so too Les. The dawn chorus was loud:)
Hey Les
You're welcome Down Under any time.
Come with Sandy when he comes.
You're both welcome here.
Just wonderful on so many levels* Wow info on the fungi & clovers* Thank you so much for sharing*It has been a real treat :-)

Happy Easter Ken,
We have had such a cold and damp winter you would not have enjoyed it much with the raynaud's syndrome but warmer months are ahead now. I can't wait:)
Sandy
Nice video Sandy, so good to see Elsa back out with you... always like your camping videos, keep it up we love them.
Great to see you down to earth again Sandy, your stove did indeed serve you well. Really nice little film, you make a great team the three of you. Harry. flying haggis film
Thanks Harry, yes the stove did work well. I am impressed.
Oh lovely meal cooked on you Trangia. 👍🇬🇧

Great video Sandy, the Trangia UL 27 looks a great bit of kit, thanks for taking us along.
Another classic outing Sandy - great grub, good company, educational and the little red cup (your version of Si`s kettle!)
Nothing can compare to Si's kettle:)

Another great video Sandy, thanks for sharing it with us.
This was so good I have just watched again. Elsa is the image of my dog. A Jack Russel cross.
Denise Audoire us also our dog is a double of Elsa , maybe a bit rougher coat at times ,also as well behaved ours is a Cairn cross
Happy Easter Charlotte. I think the plants are connected in ways we don't fully understand.
Just found your channel. Great content and I’ve just bought a Trangia 27 duasol, can’t wait to get out and try it. Seriously tempted to get a Dutch hooped Bivvi . Keep up the good work
Thanks David,
The Trangia 27 is a very good system
The power of the mind, when you started putting the spices in I could smell them, then I realized my wife was cooking curry. Lol nice vid
Great overnighter Sandy....The Trangia is a wonderful cooker...I have the UL-25 model.....love your work....cheers Kim..
Thanks for watching Kim:)

That was a song thrush Anivl. A rare sight nowdays. Some say the decline of snail and slug food source due to overuse of slug and snail pellets.
Thanks for sharing your Easter camp..enjoyed being a part of it in spirit.
Thanks Kirsty:)

Lovely video thanks for showing us your camp, which Trangia stove do you recommend for one person. Lovely scenery up there too. 👍🇬🇧🍻
The trangia 27 takes some beating
Great video guys, nice review on trangia as everyone is a little different yet very effective.Whats better than an outing with some friends and a great meal.Job well done
Once again a very interesting and informative video.. Thanks for posting. It's been many years since I last walked the Ridgeway, from Avebury to Ivinghoe and even longer since I camped at the Smithy.

Every family needs a farmer
4) Modulate the flame.
Always enjoy your videos Sandy, you are a wealth of knowledge, thanks for sharing.
Nice. Like the handwashing station. My new go to won't need help
Yes,lady Astor,Also had a mansion here in Newport Rhode Island.
Great to see Elsa fit and well again. XX

LOL that makes sense. The later videos are better then the earlier ones.
Wiltshire Man that is true the new video's are better but it's still good to watch the older one's you sort of get to know the person better. I'm sure your a very busy man but when you got the time check out one of my video's I recommend a recent one the high willhays snow camp I think you might enjoy it I got a couple of snow storm timelaps there to😁👍
Very nice video as always. Thanks for sharing. Be safe 👍. ATB Joe
Love to see Preppers that get off the sofa and walk the talk... Bravo
If I am a prepper then I am not a good example of one.
Wonderful and great spot to camp! Thanks again.
Great video Sandy...makes me want to get out again.....Cheers Chris
Wiltshire Man - Sounds good to me, guessing after the ridgeway, we’ll need a relaxing one 😉
That hand wash idea is fantastic.
Yeah I know. Joe is a clever chap!
great overnighter Sandy, happy Easter my friend
Steve
Happy Easter Steve:)
Another great night out Sandy. You and Joe look like brothers ATB Paul
No don't day that LOL.. Joe's a good lad and has some good camping ideas.

Informative, peaceful and relaxing video to watch. Thank you.
Brilliant very relaxing I love my trangia as well from western Australia safe travels
Really enjoyed this trip.Thank you.
Looks like you woke up to a beautiful morning there Sandy.
It was Bill. The dawn chorus really was loud. I think the birds are looking forward to spring:)
Great camp Sandy. That curry made me feel hungry.
Noel
It was a nice curry Noel. The Trangia did a good job I have to say! With the simmer control ring it was easy to cook slowly. Impressed I was:)
Yes, I've had various Trangias over many years and still use one now. Tough, reliable and never goes wrong. A bit like Wiltshire Man really!
Really interesting video, thanks for sharing from Surrey 🙂...
Great stuff sandy, what a fab hide away.
Thanks for sharing
Loved the video. Thanks so much for sharing. Now you done made me hungry. Time to eat :)
Brilliant video loved the bird sounds and that stove. I have the mini version which works really well. Thanks 👍
lovely vid, sir, I really liked the spot where the cute dog gave you that look like sod it all I want a nap,LOL!, I've never had any problems with the trangia ether and I use heet all year long. look forward to seeing more of your vids, atb , J.
Wonderful vid. Very enjoyable. (Hamilton, Ontario)
Sandy the stone is the Song Thrushes Anvil...Good reviews again ...Thank You.....................
how have you found the trangia pans hold up long term? i have one of the swedish army mess kit's and i like it apart from the top pan with the handle gets red hot when you try and lift it off the stove. i have found that my burner when it is full of fuel lets off gasses and taints my pots so have had to store it separate from my cook pot. me and a friend had a good over night camp in a local secret spot, we had a great night with a fire and some cider. thanks for sharing your experience.
