  • Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #644
    June 2022 NV/OR/CA Expedition Part 12 of 17
    Date of adventure: 6/13-6/14/22
Camping at an AMAZING hot spring complex in the middle of nowhere -- with wild horses, colorful mineral formations, beautiful white mud and spectacular water temperature and clarity. The only downside? There was nowhere to soak!
But...guess what? This place was so beautiful, it almost didn't matter. Almost!

      That's a great idea
      Get a laser thermometer
      Harbor Freight sells them
They also sell them on eBay and Amazon
By getting two of those 25 ft fabric hoses that shrink down and are really lightweight and a 12 volt Harbor Freight pump that either has the standard garden hose fittings or even just has smooth outlets and get hose clamps or even zip ties
You could even go to Lowe's or home Depot and pick up 50 ft of that bulk plastic hose they sell on the big rolls and use that to pump the water out of the spring and into one of those collapsible pools
I used to be a fireman years ago before my heart gave out and we had lightweight drafting pools that were made of fabric that we would use when we had a fire where there were no hydrants and tankers would go to the nearest pond or river and suck a tanker full of water and the back of the tanker had a emergency release lever with a chute and we would back up to the drafting pool and pull the lever and the entire tanker would empty into the pool in a matter of seconds.
We would have a constant convoy of tankers coming dropping water into the drafting pool and we would have one of the tankers drawing out of the pool to supply the other tankers and engines with the hoses that were working the fire.
I don't remember how much one of these pools cost but they folded up easily and they did not take up much space and they were very durable and they had a drain on the bottom that you could pull that would empty the pool very quickly.
During the summer especially 4th of July and Labor Day we would set up these pools and put floaty lawn furniture in them and have a big barbecue for 4th of July and a giant clam steam for Labor Day.
      I miss those days
You're so lucky to be healthy and be able to go and visit all these places
I used to get off work at 6:00 a.m. and go on adventures all day long and come home around 8:00 p.m. just enough time to take a shower and head back to work
I spent so much time in the Adirondacks and the Catskills and the helderberg's and the schoharie Valley and the Southern tier of New York State
The fall colors in the schoharie Valley are so beautiful and driving in the winter on I-88 with the snow reflecting off the mountains is so pretty
Now I'm stuck in bed all the time and sick and in pain and I know I'll never be able to go on any trips again.
I can't even get out of bed most days to take a shower because the pain is so bad
I tell everyone don't put off anything
Go and do whatever it is you want to do while you still can

    • @ocsrc
      @ocsrc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Kizen LP300 non contact laser thermometer is on sale for 19.99 on Amazon
Walmart has one for 25.00 as does Harbor Freight
The Amazon one goes up to 1200 C
I always forget that there are active magma Chambers underneath the entire Western half of the United States
It's also a really good idea to buy a toxic gas detector that they use in mining
There are lots of odorless toxic gases that come out from Hot springs and from fishers in the ground
Not just carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide but hydrogen sulfide and methane and others
When I used to go spelunking I used to see people I was with using the cigarette lighter test which is good for detecting CO or CO2, but it's a really bad idea to do it because if you hit a pocket of methane or sulfur that will be all she wrote for you and your party
I've been giving away a lot of equipment that I can't use anymore and I have a Motorola Astro Spectra 120 watt VHF mobile two-way radio with the 100 w siren amplifier and the 100 watt PA siren speaker as well as the control head and antenna and all of the cabling.
I paid $800 for it back when I was in the fire department.
It would make a great ham radio base unit or repeater for a ham radio club.
If there are any law enforcement officers or paramedics or firemen who are looking for a radio for their personal VEHICLE, make me an offer.
It is very heavy and will require three flat rate large USPS shipping boxes. Approximately $70 for shipping.
I don't have the programming cable or the RSS to program it but the cable is a simple five wire 25 pin patch cable that can be easily soldered together and the software is available on several amateur radio groups.
When I had it in my vehicle I had a quarter wave VHF antenna on the trunk and from the hill outside Troy New York I was able to communicate with the repeaters in Plattsburgh and with the repeaters in Kingston and Scoharie and VT, MA , CT, the Catskills the Adirondacks and from Thatcher Park on top of the helderberg escarpment just outside Albany New York I was able to talk with ham radio operators in New York City and New Jersey
Motorola really makes radios that last.
I would like someone who wouldn't normally get the chance to own one of these to get it.
I have a bunch of 800 band handheld radios and a 6 bay charger.
They needs new antennas and batteries and programming.
I would give these to anyone who will pay for the shipping.
I am in eastern Pennsylvania near Allentown. If you want to pick them up you can have them for free.

That's a PVC 1/4-turn valve with the ears broken off... probably due to mineral deposits. Ace hardware has some nice strap wrenches (sizes small to large). Probably ought to have one in your tool kit anyway. Be careful of wilderness claw foot tubs...the rim is a favorite hiding place for Black Widows.

Pliers that have rubber coated handles like the ones you had in that kit can be used to gain leverage over a sticky valve...just open them up, put the rubber handles around the valve head, grab with both hands and twist. And the channel you were referring to is "Cabinland"...

*If you have a clean tarp then you can take a bath anywhere!* Bring an inflatable inner tube and place the tarp over the middle. Or create the surround with a blanket or whatever is handy. Or use a natural depression on the ground -- a shovel would help.Once you find hot water, take a bucket on a rope, carefully bail out water onto the tarp. I used this for my kids in our backyard with the sprinkler running on hot days, lots of fun. 😊

that is definitely an amazing place! Too bad you couldn't soak anywhere. I was a bit nervous with you walking around though. It reminded me of the hot springs and geysers in Yellowstone and people have fallen in by walking in areas they thought were more solid than they were and fell in. So are you ever afraid of camping in such remote areas? I would be at night especially. Once dark hits, I'm in my RV. You made me laugh towards the end of this video. I have the same enthusiasm for hot springs as you do. Soaking in my hot tub in my back yard is the next best thing. I met you once a few years ago at the RTR at the music night around a campfire.

You are the best. I would love to meet you. I left Maryland a month ago and trying to enjoy the USA just as much as you. I'm close to the lost coast... Your happy place... Should be there tomorrow... I hope it makes me as happy as you.

I think the Nevada tourism council should offer you a position. You have the knack for that sort of thing.

There is a hot spring, with a nice tub on top, them some caves down below. Take road through Austin in to Monitor Valley. And good camping area too.
Before that on highway 50 theres a highway to Gabbs tale that to got town called Ione, but may not be Gost town, but a Squatters town and a Bar thats open. On a 4 th of July the local buckaroos showed up with there Gitar and they know all the old songs. They didnt have hots on so faces were tan below there hats . Lots camping .

Maybe you could get a little inflatable pool and a bucket to make at least a little mini soaker pool. You could waller around in the warm water that you are so very fond of.

ooops...that [Glenwood] is in Colorado, on what they call the western slope...it's majestic beyond words...you are within 100 miles of the Maroon Bells, Aspen, Snowmass, Marble,Steamboat Springs and on and on...I miss it dearly...had to come back for work and taking care of mom....I eventually ended up in Honduras...we have hot springs too....just haven't been to them yet

That place is awesome !! This is one of the best unspoiled hot spring's out there, seriously. Watch out WH, don't break through the crust and meet your demise by boiling to death !! The springs at the first location sort of had the same color as Diana's Punch Bowl, aqua blue. And WH couldn't resist to touch the giant phallic symbol....yikes !! Hey look, its the mime Robespierre again. this time in white face. walking on the high chaparral of Nevada !!

A little band wrench like the ones they use to take oil filters off with would of come in handy to turn that valve on the stock tank. You don’t need a bunch of tools, you just need the right tools. As roadtrip warriors, we anticipate these things. You have to be smarter than the average bear, which you are. And even if you don’t have the right tools, necessity is the mother of invention, improvise and survive!

The few drinking water Sierra springs that I have dealt with and they are not filling the pipe. It is generally debris, twigs, leaves, mud blocking the inlet port at the water source. I kept waiting for you to walk along and trace the pipe up to the feeding source. As they once said in older aviation mechanic scenarios, "clogged carb jets". Gotta clean the jets to get it to run smoothly. 😵‍💫

Channel-locks Sarah. Chammel locks, fencing pliers and a long long pry bar can cure a lot of mechanical ills.

I've watched ur vids over a few years, on and off and I'm compelled to say : this hot spring, with that one pool that was really bubbling and clear, is the BEST location and potential for a great minimal developed soak oasis ! Is it private land ?? Amazing ! I was waiting for you to cover your body in mud and do a reveal. 🤩😳😛

I'd go rompin' n pokin' around wit you wonderhuss. Strictly platonic natch! No rime of the ancient mariner hotsprings tho, wit nary a place to soak! Lol🤠
Beautiful landscape again, and the mustang herd was cool🐎and a little pony.
And the mud mask? Did it purify? Don't purify and cleanse your 'bad' parts, i love you jus the way u r!
