    With the improved damping and multiple position valving of modern shocks coil overs make more scents than in years past. There is a much finer amount of adjustments with coils. We played with coils at Nance years ago but struggled to keep the car from pogoing when the car was in the dirt. Coils really shined in the dry slick. It was always to hooked up. I am sure glad to see something different. Long gone are the days of telling what kind of chassis a guy had by the cage and body.

      For rough terrain you need a rising rate linkage found on motocross suspension to stop the pogo also added complexity takes longer to fix if damaged like late model rear ends.

    Noticed smith titanium is a sponsor for tanner, could be a factor in the coil overs, Stevie ran them in the late 90s with fairly good success, he felt they were as good just smaller set up window to work in compared to torsions. He moved away from them as building your own chassis on top of everything else was too much to do on top of running outlaws schedule.

    I see all these comments wondering if coilovers can run on rough tracks. Have folks not watched Mods/LM early and late in the racing season or the shitty preped tracks in the South? Coilovers are way more adjustable than bars. Sprint car owners need to get Kevin Rumley involved if they want to run coilovers. It would be interesting to see an aero grip Sprint car add in the mechanical grip need in LM racing.

    This episode peaks my interest. Im a hd diesel mechanic and love the mechanical side of the sport. Sammys car kinda reminds me of a baja car on how the wheel ends are setup. Thorsons car is like a sub of a torsion bar with coils to me. Unfortunately both had engine problems plaque them so we never got to see much of either. Tanner got more time for us to see. The torsion has had a long life. I can see these take off on tracks that are normally rougher on the surface and would be curious if they get a following after these tests. My other thought would be ride after a bump. Torsion takes a hit decent and changing ride hight may be alittle easier with just an assembly change for the coil over. Just as you put up the pictures i was going to find the pictures of sammys car to compare. Great job Justin

    If you can dial in coil over shocks I think it can be a much better setup. I've been building shocks for 30 years. Not an expert just theis so much more adjustability than what we have now. Just a thought

    One of the US touring teams decades ago here in Oz ran 1 or 2 coil cars. Trostles I think and were fast. Really coils should be better though my application is road race. The car that appears to have a bar but is not I suspect is using a small bar as a sway bar.
    Sammys coil that far in will not work,, too far away from the wheels. What is he thinking! ALL suspension needs the shock as close to the wheel as possible. Something most drag racers have totally forgotten!

    • @callummcleod6362
      @callummcleod6362 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      so the formula 1 engineers putting the suspension inboard far away from the wheels have it wrong? if the geometry is correct you can mount the shocks anyway you want

    Did anyone else notice the 83 McFadden car completely passing 12 Kameron Key before a start last night.

      @mno0624-hv8le 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That rule only applies to single file restarts when the cone is placed on the front straightaway. On a double file they can go when the leader goes. 83 was far enough back he could see the leader because of the angle of the turn. Right call unfortunately because I don’t like those toyotas
