Welcome to Christchurch! This city and its residents have been through a hell of a lot in recent years - rather than focus on the sadness from those occasions we wanted to share with you the epicness that's come from the rebuild. There's some really fun new things to do in Christchurch and over the next few videos we want to share some.
This travel vlog is all about 3 unique ways to see Christchurch - number 1 is the iconic tram around the city centre, number 2 is punting on the Avon river and number 3 is of course the Christchurch gondola.
More than just these 3 things to do though, there is so much on offer here that it's become a really cool city to walk and explore. The contrast between the new and the old, the rebuilt and untouched, the replanned and TBD locations - there is a cool feeling that you need to check out for any New Zealand travels.

We were super lucky with the weather - love chch, could've spent another week exploring!
I lived in Chch before during and after the quake. It's a resilient and bright lil city! The walk from the entrance of the Gondola (Bridle Path) over into Lyttleton Harbour with a stop off at Glamour Cake or the Lyttleton Farmers Market if you're there on a Saturday...*chefs kiss*. Can't be beaten! Absolutely love all your videos, thank you for the great content~

Was in Christchurch in January. Lovely city and great people. I really admire how quickly they are re-building after the earthquakes. Highly recommend a visit if you are in that part of the world. Excellent food in the restaurants. Walk in Hagley Park such a beautiful place to rival any London park, and the river to enjoy.

Sugar loaf is where the radio & TV communications tower is located. Quail island used to be a leprosy colony. Lovely set up showing historical set up of the island. The beach is great, gorgeous for picnics. Closes during winter. The ferry operates I think 3 trips a day. We usually take the first trip and return on the last trip.

Christchurch looks so charming! The trolley reminds me of the one in Lisbon. I agree gondolas can be scary, as we have one in Palm Springs. But what a reward with that view at the top! 😎

I am really, really hoping you do an in depth video on Dunedin and area as, while I know it is a smaller city of 128,000, it looks charming and the weather a little more "Scottish" and rugged. I like smaller less populated places. - Richard - Alberta, Canada.
Always great to know what people want to see. We have no plans to travel to Dunedin anytime soon but if that changes and we're down that way we would happily film a few more in depth videos :)

2:56 I think the punting in Christchurch reflects back to the tradition of punting at Oxford or Cambridge in the UK (rather than the Venetian type) given the strong historical connection Christchurch has back to the 'old country'.
Good point. We weren't comparing them to Venice, just saying that we figured our first time punting would be there :)

Lovely vlog :D Now Stacey should you visit the Isle of Capri off the Almafi Coast off the southern coast of Italy do not take the second chair lift to the summit. When it descends it drops about 20 feet straight down out of the station and then caries you down all safe but they are single seats. I ruined a hat because as I screamed I squashed it! Love your vlogs and this second series is as good if not better than the first!

Sugar Loaf used to be where the TV transmitter was for the Canterbury Region. I was born in Rangiora, about 30km north of Christchurch. Still remember our first black and white TV. Only one channel in those days.

The amount of background information you two give as you do your vlogs is quite impressive!
He was such a Bulls (and Jordan) fan as a kid and remembers watching the championship so he found a retro jumper with those dates! Mmm warm cookies, you can't beat em!
My brother was a big fan growing up too. His whole room was Bulls stuff (wallpaper, red carpet, etc).
Quail Island is about 81 ha uninhabited Island although you can get approval to camp there I suppose only during summer. Lovely beach and great walks with so much interesting history. It was predominantly used as a quarantined for immigrants to ensure they are free from illness, diseases before they are allowed into Christchurch. A period of time it was a leper colony. Shackleton, Scott and Byrd expeditions also used the island for quite a number of years as well. Great to simply enjoy a lovely picnic on the Island all day during the summer. If I can recall, the first ferry was at 10am and the last at 3pm. I suppose it changes according to the weather
Ooh thanks for the background info! So interesting. Yeah the ferries run on a different schedule in the autumn/winter and I suppose with less tourists about they decided to reduce it down to once per week. Would be great to head over in the summer!
Sugarloaf Mountain is also a peak situated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It's has the most amazing views! Love you guys🙋♀️

This video has just blown my mind... but over something that I'm a little embarrassed to admit! So, we get baby ducks in spring time, so I just assumed you guys also got baby ducks in spring. But seeing those duckings - is it based on the month rather than the season as it will be your autumn when its our spring! 😲
Our punter, Pim did actually tell us that it was unusual to see ducklings at this time of year and their chances of survival were slim because of the cold 💔Hope that's not the case and they get to live their best lives!
Of course we have to go back to NZ after 22 years, we just have to figure out how. Seems to be two obstacles, our budget, and NZ visitor restrictions (see the effort Gone With the Wynns put forth to get admitted, not to mention a heroic 10+ day sail to get their on their catamaran). Sugarloaf is where the TV tower is. That's what that tower is. Hope you did the video tour up the top of the Gondola too but just didn't show it. It's pretty interesting and cool

Were doing a month long trip to NZ in Jan - Feb next year and couldn't make up our minds to stay in Christchurch for either 2 or 3 days. What do you reccomend? I'm surprised you never did the zipline😊

That's SO exciting! It really depends on what else you want to do, if you've got limited time stick to 2 days in chch - you'll still be able to see and do heaps! Rotorua is awesome, 4 days is a great amount of time 🙌 Our friends just went and told us about a cafe called Eastwood that they loved, might be worth looking that up!

I would have enjoyed a look at the drink cabinet in the cookie store. I love soft drinks around the world. The watermelon tymbark in Poland so far is the winner. ;) One of the few things I got in Krakow that you 2 did not suggest.
We would never think to show the drinks cabinet because it's just all so normal to us but this is great to know!! Next time we'll be sure to film it 😊

Very cool to see what you both got up to in Christchurch! We've been watching your whole series and wondering why you traded out the RV for a car and rental in the city. Was it a pain to bring the RV into town?
Sorry for the delay - we've been in South America. It was just cheaper to end the rental at that point, we've got friends in CHCH so we could stay with them or in the Airbnb a few nights and then it was easier to cruise around. It's a pretty well setup city for campers though so would have been fine
Oh noes Christchurch seems it would take more than 1 day to explore! I was thinking of keeping it short there (in my currently imaginary itinerary) since there's so many cute small towns to see! Question: would New Regent St be considered city center? Or if not where about is the city center in Christchurch?
You could argue everywhere is worth spending more than one day but when you've got a packed itinerary you have to make sacrifices (we totally get that) Yeah New Regent Street is in the CBD - you're in the right place!

On the gondola we got stuck as there were 90km winds they didn’t let us down so we had to walk down

Overall, I feel like Christchurch isn't in New Zealand; it feels like it's in the U.K. Lovin' the trolley and the punting on the river.
It definitely has that feel with the tram! Maybe thats why we love it so much 😊

We are still waiting for infrastructure roading repairs from the earthquake eastern suburbs of chch. Its terrible lack of council attention. When they just spent 2 billion on new motorways northern chch and west chch. The leaking raw sewage smell is soul destroying. This is where alot of homes are Government owned.
Yikes, that does sound soul destroying! Fingers crossed things change soon.
You will not get around the city in a punt and the tram seems to be restricted to the CBD ! What Christchurch does have is a lot of nutters on drugs ,sorry just been there and it’s very average !
