You’re probably not expecting a comment, what, two years after posting this. But my wife and I, dopey Americans, have thoroughly enjoyed your adventures and patterned a lot of our month in New Zealand just now after your travels.
We’re both older, late-50s, but your tips and insider information truly helped inform our itinerary. As partially retired photojournalists, every inch of your country was awe-inspiring. We even took to exclaiming - like Daneger did - “MAAAATE … mate!” whenever we were awestruck by something (which was often).

Hey guys just started watching your epic road trip around my homeland ..63yr old expat left in '85 ..live in Perth ...last road trips were with my daughter back in precovid days 2016 from Auckland across to picton..only had 2wks visiting friends n family abit rushed but packed in most as we could..2nd trip 2018 from Christchurch to Cape Reinga via hawkes bay coromandel to the Cape ..exploring and reminiscing on my childhood holidays ...enjoyed alot of traveling in my "youth"...hopefully soon we can get back to seeing other countries but as they used to say "don't leave town til u see the country"!good luck and happy travels even if its local look forward to any more travels soon

Loved your video guys! We pretty much had the same route back in 2019 and loved everything! New Zealand is a dream country!
One more recommendation if you haven't done it already is the Great Barrier Island - north east of Auckland. It's a beautiful isolated place where you can unwind on the beaches, a nice hike up to a hot water spring (you barely find any people there) in the middle of a forest. And of course stargazing in the famous dark sky sanctuary!

Hi, I recently discovered your channel when researching for our upcoming holiday in NZ and yours is definitely the best! I love your energy and practical recommendations. We're booked to go in July with plans to drive a few days each in both islands. We're a bit concerned about winter road conditions especially in the South Island where we hope to drive from Queenstown to Christchurch via Franz Josef and Arthur's Pass. Any advice for driving this route in the winter is much appreciated! 😊🙏
Thanks so much! 😊 Sounds like a fun trip. It;s unpredictable driving those roads in winter, sometimes it's all snow, others it's not bad at all. You'll likely get chains, but depending on where you rent you might not get some proper advice about how and where to use them. It's pretty common around the world though, so do some TH-cam research about how to put them on, where you might need them etc before you travel!

Hi guys really love watching your vlogs, they are very informative and well put together and importantly fun. I'm planning a trip in November this year and have been getting some prices and have been quoted $3400 for 1 week hire of a 6 berth motorhome with the company you guys used. Just enquiring if the prices you quoted are much less in this video due to the fact it was during the Covid period with no travellers from other countries?
Yeah for season 1 we got a special during COVID, season 2 we teamed up with Motorhome Republic (now GoSee Travel) so pricing would vary. Hunt around though, Maui is top tier but Britz and Mighty are older but still looked good to us

I think they pretty much run year round and you might have a higher success rate of getting up there, but I'd say the glacier will be less impressive. In saying that, once you're on the ice it really doesn't mater - it's magical

It rememberd me on our two road trips we had the chance to do in NZ yet that (4 weeks in 2017 and 6 weeks in 2019).
I just love NZ and would love to live there permanently 😍😍
Folowing is my opinion on spots I would have added to your trip although it would have been nearly impossible to squeeze those into the 6 weeks:
North Island:
Cape Reinga
Waipoua Kauri Forest
Tongariro Crossing
CASTLE POINT (My favourite place on the noth island!)
South Island:
Wharariki Beach
Arthur's Pass
Kaikoura
Christchurch
AKAROA (definetely one of my favorites on the south Island!)
Lake Tekapo
Wanaka (would have spent more time there)
Lake Manapouri/Doubtful Soud
Mildford Sound (Impressive to drive there on your own and equaly impressive to fly there from Queenstown!!)
We have done vlogs on a lot of the places you listed, just not on this trip. Great list though!! We just did the Tongariro Crossing too and it was epic, especially since they just went into winter conditions 😊

We picked it up in Auckland and dropped it off in Queenstown (there is a one-way fee you pay for this) then we flew back to Auckland 😊
