I always thought to myself that long dark would make for an excellent horror game with its atmosphere. I can't tell you how much regret I had at trying this at 2 am for the first time. I essentially panicked the moment I realized those thuds are not in fact ambient noise and ran face first into a moose near carter dam, got appropriately trampled and needed a fresh pair of pants.
The game mode wont work for me and i have a version of the game that is identical to the build everyone is using to play darkwalker, im confused? do i need to beat the game or any challnges?
How creepy would it be if there was no warning or anything and it was just this looming presence. Like you're playing as you normally would but some things just don't add up. Noises outside your building in the middle of night; quick darts across your screen, things clearly being moved or misplaced, etc. That would genuinely be one of the scariest pieces of work ever created with how unparalleled the lonesome atmosphere is portrayed in the base game.
I switched off the lights, put on my headphones, and set my tower-fan in my direction for my first playthrough. My heartbeat instantly sped up as I searched for supplies and a place to bunker down (not knowing if it could enter buildings or not) and just before the 15 minutes ran out, I warded the entrance to where I was camped. I was looking for an enemy, not realizing it was invisible, or how wide the ward radius was, etc. Very intense/suspenseful horror experience. I decided "I'll get my mum to try it, for the same experience." So I gave her the headphones, turned off my lamp, and waited to see what she would do... As it happened: *saw wolf loading icon* "Aw, that's a cute fox!" *ran past the starting supplies* "I love the crunching snow sound" *ran off a cliff*
Accurize leaves a hot coffee for the Darkwalker at the campfire just to let him know he's picked the wrong man to fool with. Liam Neeson preparedness : )
You can keep moving while holstering the storm lantern, don't even have to stop, def saves time then. Got both badges for this event earlier today on my first try, it's actually fairly easy once you get over the fear :) Linear chokepoints after entering a new region, where you can't avoid the entity, were the hardest part. I literally threw myself off the cliff after transitioning to Milton from ML, got within about 60 feet of it I think.
@@Accurize2 Keep looking, you'll find a gun. There's often a rifle in the back seat of the car you searched when you first entered CH. You probably can afford to take a little extra time to search things for better gear then you have been. So far the thing hasn't even gotten close to you yet. I'll be trying this mode when the next weekend comes and I have a bit more time for gaming. My main concern with this mode is getting trapped by the entity in a single exit area.
As someone who doesn't like jump scares or horror games/movies I can say this isn't actually that scary it's more eerie and spooky than scary if the Darkwalker gets close it gives a proximity counter and if it kills you the screen just goes black and it say that the Darkwalker consumed you no jump scares or anything just an eerie atmosphere. @@Accurize2 because it has to stalk / find you first but you will see. If/when you sleep and you suddenly find yourself awake with interrupted sleep with that proximity county counting closer as it comes....you will know. hahaha
The lure is apparently strong enough that the Darkwalker will go past you to get to it. Would be a very good idea to not be in its direct path though unless you have no choice (do or die). A spray can is good for four uses. Since only one lure and one ward can be active at any time, it might be an idea to strategically waste a lure now and again. Draw the Darkwalker to where you are leaving as the situation may be. I think the Darkwalker when it spawns in any region or zone starts in the center or mid-point and then moves towards you, but it may have to reach the transition point before it does so, if one can delay its arrival there, then there is more time to move or rest. Maybe.
A modified Darkwalker mode should be toggle-able for Sandbox, like Auroras. When selected, every night there is a very small chance the Darkwalker will show up and hunt you until dawn. If you survive the night, you have a week grace period or so before the risk comes back. It would make a nice replacement for the ridiculous cabin fever affliction; An actual legitimate reason to leave shelter during a blizzard or when in low health conditions. It would also add an extra dimension of challenge to the game because you might be trying to recover from a moose attack, or lost, or starving, and then when you least expect it, here comes the Darkwalker forcing you to run out into a blizzard...
I feel like this was sort of a missed opportunity to have like a full on skin walker terrorise you while you play, though I haven't finished the series yet obviously so I could like this more in the end
I wrote the support about that, they said it's intended and I should try using a lure... the second time the "two" walkers had me trapped in a cave I used the lure at the entrance and hid in a dead end to try and let it pass, but when it reached 10 m proximity my screen just went black until it reached me. 5/6 notes found, just before the last one. Yeah, I don't know how to pass a cave with the thing inside.

I've seen a few early playthroughs of this and it gets really creepy and really intense at times! I don't believe in anything supernatural, but the dark and an overactive imagination are still powerful enough to mess with me at times. Do you have any ghostly tales from the job Accurize?
No ghostly tales. I have the exact same perspective as you. We did have a UFO sighting recorded by the other sergeant on his cruiser cam though. I posted it on my Twitter page about two years ago. I’ll track it down one of these videos, talk about it, and add it to the very end for everyone to see. It was totally bizarre. I definitely don’t think some sort alien contact is outside of reality though.
Already switched maps once from DP to CH. still no warning alerts/anxiety/panic from our character...maybe he’s popping beta blockers from Project Zomboid!!! Lol
If you beat the challenge, do you get to carry on your play through? If not, that would be a real good reward for 'winning'. Would make for a real solid start with all that loot.
Good run. There hasn't been mist yet, so if you are lucky you can re-enter Coastal from PV or the other way around. Have you thought out a route yet? ML to Mountain Town to Forsaken Forlorn or Bleak?
@Accurize, have you ever done the "As the Dead Sleep" challenge? I think you're a better player than I (I've never really ventured into Loper before) and it's pretty challenging / I am screwing some things up a bit, but it's also forcing me to grow in ways I've never had to before. I think my newfound joy is throwing lit torches and hitting wolves in the face, lmao. Anyway I would get a kick out of seeing you run it.
damnit. thought the music went super intense and all and you just didnt hear it and i paused the vid just to come to that mom is baking cinamon buns. it sounded so alike tho
Is safe to sleep for 10hr, like you do at the end of this video? I was expecting for the Darkwalker to eat you in your sleep, and for this to be the end of the run... and to have to start a new run tomorrow. From what I've been reading on the forums, the glyph wards (and signal fire wards) last about 2.5 hours and are the only truly safe time/places. So I think you should have used your time better at the Jackrabbit Island fire, slept for 1-2 hr if nothing else (could've repaired clothes, etc.)
BTW, I found a forum post that claims the following, so maybe it is "safe" to sleep like you did after all(?) You can 'safely' sleep for 6-7 hours at the green fires. Yes, the fire will be gone by the time you wake up, but you should not be cold, and the extra rest (and thus energy for non-impeded movement) you get from that can be really important. The Dark Walker will move towards you at its normal pace even when you sleep, but since DW's movement is real-time based, while sleeping is accelerated, there's no danger of you being eaten by it during your sleep (you'd wake automatically if it is 200 meters or closer).

I'd have nightmares playing this even though I m decent at this game wish you luck btw when u go to another map the darkwalker will be on your tail
Already switched maps once from DP to CH. still no warning alerts/anxiety/panic from our character...maybe he’s popping beta blockers from Project Zomboid!!! Lol
kept waiting for will's dang ankles to break.
Btw you have fully opened map with fires and your position
Your are kicking bottom! Great job!
Honestly it's so nice to not have to deal with peppy cheerleader youtubers, and just have a regular, modest, honest guy. Thanks bro
Thanks for playing this. I'm too scared to do it.
there's no way in hell i'm good enough at this to last long but i'm gonna like and enjoy watching you try at it! :)
Thank you! I was waiting for you to make a video on this so I can understand how the event works because I'm a noob at this game🙃
Reminds me of the bear challenge :)
Hi! Will there be a third part? I'm curious if you're going to get all the notes! Love your channel. I'm a new subscriber!
This is amazing! thank you for playing this so I don’t have too 😂 super good!!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!!
hey !!! not checking the shades... all in a hurry now:) happy halloween:)
My game kept crashing when I tried to exit the Trappers Homestead in ML , so I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having problems.
Me too.. Lol misery loves company.
damnit. thought the music went super intense and all and you just didnt hear it and i paused the vid just to come to that mom is baking cinamon buns. it sounded so alike tho
16:29 -16:34
Accurize turns into Bane, in a bit of a hurry ;) .
It crashed for my Xbox one too, I’m forever trapped running in circles from the darkwalker in there and I’m running out of glyphs
I JUST NOW, thanks to you, learned that you can sleep! My best run yet is an hour 39 minutes without sleeping, ffs!
I had no idea the dark walker froze when you slept, I thought no sleep was part of the challenge lol
This guys underrated
I would try verifying you're installation. My Long Dark also kept crashing after updating. Verifying seemed to fix the issue.
I've never seen this before, this is cool
Always love you’re videos! Happy halloween I hope you and you’re family is well :)
nice vids keep up the good work
gosh, i wanted to watch this at night but i couldn't resist the intrige.
Does this Boss actually have a character model ingame ??? Or is it just an invisible force ??
This. Is. Fucking. Terrifying LOL. Idk why but anything that has a timer count down to it gives me THE WORST anxiety 🤣😧
Oh cool!!!! I was wondering if you were going to do this version!
Thx for the fast new video
Is safe to sleep for 10hr, like you do at the end of this video? I was expecting for the Darkwalker to eat you in your sleep, and for this to be the end of the run... and to have to start a new run tomorrow.
From what I've been reading on the forums, the glyph wards (and signal fire wards) last about 2.5 hours and are the only truly safe time/places. So I think you should have used your time better at the Jackrabbit Island fire, slept for 1-2 hr if nothing else (could've repaired clothes, etc.)
BTW, I found a forum post that claims the following, so maybe it is "safe" to sleep like you did after all(?)
You can 'safely' sleep for 6-7 hours at the green fires.
They should add a thing that hunts you at night in survival mode you can kill it off but it hard
Yay been waiting for you to play this!!!
I'm too scared to do this event myself so I was counting on Accurize to do it
Watched it with Paul SJ he survived for 50 min then gave up to the fog
I last 50 minutes. That said, I didn’t realise you could sleep and it stops the clock. You can imagine the mess I was in towards the end.
Any tips for understanding the map locations?
This is actually scarier than Amnesia Rebirth lol
darkwalker kind of makes me think of the wendigo.
What is the goal of this special event?
So the dark walker is basically a really fucking scary windigo/skin walker (native legends)
Dang I missed this I didn't have the king dark is there a way to play this now?
So this is basically Metro 2033
Im already shitting myself when i see a wolf coming to me and groaring so what am i supposed to do with an invisible threat
