Hey, thanks for the video! I was just debating what to use to sleeve some old comics and manga that I have. I used to use poly and always was drawn to the thicker material although it did look more fuzzy. I'm getting new bags now that I am re wrapping my comics and I will go with your recommendation. Thanks! Congrats on your collection! That signed Spiderman comic is amazing!
Hi! Thanks so much for watching! Since making this video there is a company on eBay called CGCMylars that I love. There graded mylar bags are my favorite that I have used/found.
Thanks for posting. I have noticed that over time, a poly bag tend to take on a slightly opaque or cloudy look after repeated handling. The mylar bag is crystal clear and clean looking. There is a sheen to it and obviously a far better look, IMO. Well alrighty then as I am convinced and will soon re-bag my slabs. I also enjoyed your pronunciation of Bet-a Ray Bill, instead of the often heard Bay-ta Ray Bill. Best to all.
Hey Joeh, thanks for watching and the comment. Since I made this video I even found Mylar bags on eBay that I like even better. They do not require tape and are resealable. They also have a great price point. The eBay seller of these bags does a great job. I need to make a follow up video to this one.
OH NO! The dreaded blue tape. (I use it as well). Great video sir, great books. I saw what you saw and got a chuckle when you pointed it out. I need to get some mylars for my graded books (I don't have many). Cheers!
I found another Mylar bag that I like better. It is not as thick and is resealable. They come from an eBay seller out of Gainesville Florida. I need to make an updated video.
This is a dumb question but I guess you use a standard full back with a standard Mylar bag? I used a standard Mylar with a current full back and the back was extremely small.
For raw comics, the backing board needs to be the size of the Mylar: current with current, silver with silver, etc. For the graded Mylar bags, you don’t need a board. Let me know if I didn’t answer your question.
I agree. You can poke someone’s eye out with those corners. The next Mylar bags that I buy will probably be a thinner material so they are not quite so jagged. It would be nice if a Mylar bag was made that fit the comic more perfectly.
You know I still only use poly bags. I wish I could switch to Mylar but the cost is so high to put so many books in Mylar. 26 of my raw books that are worthy of Mylar have just been shipped a few days ago to Erod in Staten Island; then they are off to for grading after that.
Yes, I believe they are. I have had a number of raw books preserved in those same bags for years receive 9.8 white pages from CGC. 50 years, I don’t know. 10-20 years, absolutely. If they remain in a dark room or dark box they will be fine.
You are right, they definitely can tear, and the corner sharp points that they make are not great. The thinner Mylar is really nice and I will probably fit my remaining slabs with the thinner Mylar.
I mean honestly..does it really matter if all my cgc books are already in BCW resealable bags and put into a climate controlled storage?AKA my apartment.Asking for a friend.
The first time I had a mylar bag in hand I was very impressed. The clarity of the bag was like glass and it felt thick and smooth. I'm a believer.
Night and day difference. Thanks for watching, Jeff!
@@doctortcomics2576 Now I have to decide if I want to transfer ALL of my comics to mylars, or just my key issues.
@@Sasquatch64 I myself still have many books to transfer over to Mylar.

I really enjoyed the way you structured this video
Thank you. I need to do a follow up video.

@@doctortcomics2576 Hi Doc and thanks for your reply. Who is this mystery seller? I'd be glad to take it under advisement. 😉
@@Joeh1154 cgc-mylars is the eBay seller.

I had put off Mylar for so long, I love the clarity they provide and the protection. Thanks for watching!
The sound of that crispy crinkling bag, nice.

So awesome!! Certainly a True Believer now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD
Great vid! But fyi - 2 mil is not 2 milimeter, it's 2 one-thousandths of an inch. (thickness of the material)
Thanks for the correction! Don’t know what I was thinking, 2 millimeters would be crazy thick for a Mylar bag!
The clarity and the UV protection are why I ended up getting the mylars.
Thanks
Put the comic in upsidedown so when you fold the flap over it is on the bottom of the comic. Easy to hide the tape that way.
Great video and great information
Sorry it has taken me so long to respond! Thank you so much for watching and for your comment.
Sold me on mylar, thanks!
You will want to check out CGC-Mylars from eBay. That is the only company I purchase graded mylar bags from now. Thanks for watching!
All my comics are in my lite bags, do they still make those ?

Only thing that I hate about mylar graded book bag is the corner crunch it makes. It’s sharp and ugly.

Great comparison. Do you also bag your raw copies in Mylar?

There’s no comparison. Mylar definitely FTW!
Absolutely! I think new collectors might choose Poly because it is so much cheaper but the Mylar display and preservation is superior in every way.
are the regular bags and boards from the store alright? is acid free better to prevent deterioration?
Yes, I believe they are. I have had a number of raw books preserved in those same bags for years receive 9.8 white pages from CGC. 50 years, I don’t know. 10-20 years, absolutely. If they remain in a dark room or dark box they will be fine.
Mylar all day
Where do you get the mylar bags?
I get mine from CGCMylars on eBay. They come at a great price and are resealable, which is a huge plus!
@@doctortcomics2576 Hey thanks for answering so fast. Subscribed and liked!
What dimensions/size is the mylar bag?
I don’t like the thicker mylar bags, they rip the edges are way too sharp fir regular handling.
