Something I've found helpful when using spray cans. Is the handles that snap onto the top of the cans. It seems to give me more control of the can. The ones I have my Late Dad bought back in the early 60's from Pep Boys. I think he paid like 50 cents a piece for them. And when Dupli-Color changed up the tip on the cans he "modified" one of them to have a longer reach. Man I really miss Mom and Dad a lot just not the same.

Good starter video for those willing to brave this on their own!
My two cents: put a tarp on the concrete below the spot being painted; put a cheap air filter on a box fan to pull some of the overspray away from work zone; and make sure you have a few "cold snacks" ready when it's time to celebrate your success!

I found that a 62 Galaxy 500 XL was the right size to tow a trailer for mowing yards, at 15 years old. Did I mention my 390 with two four barrels and solid lifters.

Those aren't runs, that car is shedding tears of joy under the paint because someone is fixing it up.

Like you said this isn’t a concours, but I would counter that runs in the engine bay paint was a factory option in the 60’s. LOL.

What about your typical at home, single car attached garage with no heat or ac ki d of mechanic? That has to paint around the motor? Is there a magic wand to make it look good? If so, I'll buy 3. Lol

I show my body work you can show yours too. :) Don't worry about the runs as they didn't worry about them at the factory.
I have used the rustoleum industrial enamel spray paints on stuff years ago with good results but yeah it's thin and needs allot of coats as it's super easy to get runs in it.

About 25 years ago I had a body shop repaint my Fairlane. I also asked them to repaint my engine bay while the engine was out getting rebuilt. All they did was paint over everything without any kind of prep work including bothering to mask off the brake lines, wire bundles or A/C components that were still in the car. It took me months to clean all that up after I got my car back. And they did such a bad job overall that I had to have the car completely repainted a year later at another shop. They were only in business for a couple of years, I was not sad to see them go.

How do you use Evapo-rust on a large surface area like that? I have a gallon tub of the stuff but only drop things in it. I did once create a tub out of foil and lay a gun barrel in it. Stuff works great but I can’t see how to use it on a vertical flat surface like your working on.

I have seen videos where they used a pump in a large catch can (tub) with polyethylene sheets used to funnel the liquid runoff back to the tub.

Stop being so hard on yourself...
I saw runs in the engine bay of a GT-40.....so you're doing just fine
They weren't that great from the factory
Especially if it's a Monday car....it was sprayed on 4 hours of sleep black coffee and a Winston and 4 Millers😆
