    Section 17.2B states: “if the player in question has star status, he is entitled to as many steps as he feels he needs to make the basket.”

    1;00 from what I know.. you can pause as long as you don't
    1. Put the other foot down
    2. Jump / move the foot on the ground

  • @jg_jumps
    @jg_jumps 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Get it through your heads, it is not a travel because the rule is and always has been a limit of 2 steps (after) the ball is picked up. Pick up the ball on a chosen foot (no step or STRIDE taken while holding the ball), and then you have 2 steps, legal, simple, and not a problem as everyone can and always could do it.

    Coach can you help me i am having a hard time playing 5on5 i am good at 1on1 and 3on3 i can play against older guy head to head but when it comes to 5on5 i am scared to slash because of the defend and i can't make good decision

    • @justinanthony2760
      @justinanthony2760 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      More than going out to play and just do whatever, 5 on 5 is about establishing contact first and using momentum to benefit you and get open. You can't just go in amongst the trees on 5 on 5 like you can do in 3v3 at times. Box out at all times, establish contact, feel out where your defender is, especially if he's way taller. Use bumps and pump fakes. It's all about contact. Next time you watch the NBA or other high level basketball, notice how important feeling out your opponent is, you just can't stand around on an island and avoid the opposition.

    • @justinanthony2760
      @justinanthony2760 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Okay. In that case pass the ball, don't force anything. "Creating" in basketball is more about being able to react to opportunities; creating out of what the defense gives you. So if the defense has you locked, sometimes it's just best to pass and hustle, your shots and opportunities to slash will come.

  • @АлёшаИнкогнитов

    The reason why "0 step" is BS - there was no steps definition. There literally was gathering+jump after pivot foot. And ballers create all this "eurostep", "stepback" e.t.c moves.
    Now FIBA and NBA make a definition of steps, says for every casual player "you have 2 steps", but grey and hard-to-tell gathering didn't magically dissapeared.
    So yeah, it's literally three steps now, in any old player's understanding. And the players continue to invent movements. Treat it as you like, but double step back at least sounds ridiculous.

    • @shadowscion
      @shadowscion 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rule has been the same for decades, the only thing that has changed is clarification of the language, which would likely only confuse people who didn't understand the rule in the first place.

    • @АлёшаИнкогнитов
      @АлёшаИнкогнитов 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shadowscion Decades mean at least 20 years. And yeah, 20 years ago this was exactly like im saying. Suddenly I haven't seen the NBA in a long time, and have no idea then it take in rules. But FIBA put this gathering only in 2017.
      Actually, this was exactly 10 years ago www.espn.com/nba/news/story?id=4563546
      P.S. You can't blame people. There are literally а few _players_ , who use the rules to their advantage at the full stretch.

    • @shadowscion
      @shadowscion 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't blame players, either... Maximizing potential is what separates superstars and everyone else.

    He travels all the time, it’s amazing that more nba players don’t use those same steps to attack the lane

  • @ceelobrown27
    @ceelobrown27 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The problem is that the players are gathering the ball then placing their zero step down and then take 2 steps. The other issue is when they launch off their zero foot then take 2 steps. Either way it's making the game less enjoyable.

  • @dylonxavier4
    @dylonxavier4 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Im late but here is to those who dont understand it (i can explain it since my dad who was a pro baller explained it to me)
    Giannis doesnt *REALLY* pick up the ball with *TWO HANDS.* Making it a *LEGAL* dribble. The steps *DO NOT COUNT* as long as the *DRIBBLE is ALIVE*. That is what people do not understand. So you can go all the way to mars, go back and not travel (in basketball terms btw) as long as the dribble is alive.

  • @malikrahim-ei1vd
    @malikrahim-ei1vd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is so confusing to call for a ref. Just make it easy 2 steps. Sports in general is terrible at making rules. The more you take the judgement out of something the easier it is to call.

  • @COOLSAUCE21
    @COOLSAUCE21 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Loads of refs go by "eye test" 😂. I've been called for carry on that snake cross move, and for travel when I jumped on a shot fake hesi (live dribble.. I even continued dribbling after that !).

  • @lukeventura7216

    Refs that are not in college or the nba are going to call it a travel

  • @5-iwnl-596

    Giannis doesn’t beat people by being shifty and doing good euro technique and fake out his opponents like Harden... he makes his opponent think he can’t possibly take another step because it’s illegal and the ref doesn’t call it when he does. People like Harden do the Gather Step. Giannis does the third step.

    • @rgonzalo511
      @rgonzalo511 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No he just steps around them. Gianni's euro is perfectly legal, you just understand the rules.

    Im honestly blown away how much better basketball is in 2022 with the new foul rules. Aint really watched since lakers/kings...smh. But I do think they can and should reign some of this in. I think its an exploit used by very few...anyone hear this about Joel? No. And Giannis more than simple gather step is shuffle traveling and being guilty of up and down. Lets please not all say that NBA dribbling rules are settled science. Even a flat earther like kyree could tell you views change.

  • @bobjames288
    @bobjames288 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    man you can’t take 1 000 000 steps while the ball is in the air while you are dribbling - When a player has taken more than 2 steps without the ball being dribbled, a traveling violation is called. That’s how balling always was. I just don’t get your point.

    • @GetHandles
      @GetHandles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Actually you can. There's no rule about how many steps you can take during a live, legal dribble, whether the ball is in the air or in your hands. For whatever reason a lot of people think there is a rule about it and have continued to spread that as a fact over the years, but it's simply not true and not in rulebook anywhere. Just because a lot of people think it or say it for a long time doesn't make it true. Like it or hate it, if we're being objective, and actually looking for the truth, it should be about what the rule actually is, not what we believe or want to believe.
