    Hi. Tom in Ohio. 1st time. Really like your knife choice. Excellent bushcraft / survival all-purpose knife. I have a BRK Bushcrafter, also with convex. Like you were discovering, battening and feather-sticking is a joy. A2 steel is a fantastic choice. Stropping will suffice in the field. You'll want to dry it well when finished, before sheathing overnight. Like you said, a beast. Sturdy feel in the hand. Happy for you. Enjoy.

    to sharpen my convex ground knives i use sand paper. i start with 320 grit then go to 600 and finish on 1000 - 3000 grit. i put the sand paper on thin hard back book and use a stropping motion. i only stroke the knife away from the edge. i usually use a stone to fix any edge damage.

    • @andrimnerofsweden2615
      @andrimnerofsweden2615  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jag tycker den är kanon. Bladet är det bästa jag provat för mina behov (mest att göra upp eld). Men det är tjockt, så lite knöligt för mat prepp. Sen har jag stora händer (strl 12 hos Hestra) och hade kanske önskar mig ett lite biffigare skaft, men det är inget problem. A2 är lättsamt att få fason på. Att den dessutom inte ser taktisk ut tilltalar mig. Jag rekommenderar. Kolla med Survivalstore.se, bra prisnivå bra service.

    Nice . Which handle do you prefer, the Casstrom or the Bravo?

    • @andrimnerofsweden2615
      @andrimnerofsweden2615  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is s little hard to say. They are very different. With the Bravo being so much thicker in the blade, it does get a lot more heavy use, and that puts other demands on the handle. But I think the angle on the handle on the SFK is excellent for big hands. The Bravo handle could do with another 2-3cm length on the handle for my big hands, especially when using winter gloves. On the other hand, I only notice that when I think about it. When I actually use the knife, it just....works.

      @@andrimnerofsweden2615 Thanks for the reply. I think the importance of handle design should be just as high as the blade design. I have some tapered tang knives that are great for balance.

      @andrimnerofsweden2615  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for delayed answer. Yeah, the handle is very important. And here in the north, it needs to work without gloves, with thin gloves and with thick gloves. Even with mitts. That's a tall order.

  • @sheltermonkey6065
    @sheltermonkey6065 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you are batoning often, Bark Rivers are a good choice. And they are available in a huge variety of handle materials. But their blade stock is usually so thick that they don't function very well as knives. And no two Bark Rivers are the same because most of the knife is hand ground on a belt sander. I find their handle shapes to be only mediocre despite the hype.... not nearly as comfortable as a cheap Mora Kansbol or an L.T. Wright.

    • @andrimnerofsweden2615
      @andrimnerofsweden2615  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the handle fit depends a lot on the hand, logically enough. I have no experience with LT Wrigths, but Moras are fantastic knives for the money. But when looking for a full tang knife, they only do the Garberg as far as I know, and I didn't quite like that one when I tried it out. As for blade thickness, we will see if it gets in the way of me using it, but I have thinner knives to use if that is the case. I have the Mora 2000, the predecessor of the Kansbol, and it is a fantastic tool, for only USD 20 from a surplus store. But it won't hold up to the abuse I am giving my Casstroms and my BRK. Only available in stainless too.

      I think not. I've only had one bark river and even though it was too thick to do anything useful in EDC it still completely deformed at the edge from splitting 1/4 inch pieces of wood I could karate chop

      Thanks for the info. Generally I have no issue where a knife is made as long as its very well done for the asking price. To me it shows a prudent and wise company who knows where to source excellent production of the product they designed or collaborated with. I do have knife brands that outsource to China, Nepal, Japan, Spain, etc. All good.
