I finished this game 28 years ago. The full soundtrack is still permanently etched into my brain. Memories... C'mon Capcom, I would love to see a remake or sequel to this long-forgotten property! I did like the cameo in MvC.
We didn't have much money growing up but we did have an NES. My older sister bought us a game genie and we spent a lot of time looking at the descriptions of games in the code book. We rented a lot of games based solely on the description and I remember being a little disappointed in this one because I wasn't expecting a Shoot em up.
+Justin Jackson I haven't seen the game genie code book, but descriptions of this game don't really give a good idea of what the game is. Even the manual is very brief and not really descriptive.
I remember searching for the name of this game because half of the cartridge’s label was ripped. Then my Nintendo was sold out by my parents to get super nes. I am glad that you talk about it and in such eloquence.
For the multiplayer slowdown, i remember as a kid thinking: This is so easier. I just thought multiplayer was like some easy mode, with a slow motion mechanic. It's funny how it looked so much better back then. I remember loving the music.
Love legendary wings. I have been playing this game since I was a kid. Recently dug out the old NES and went back at it again. Believe it or not after 20-plus years I still have not been able to finish it...
I definitely have a "nostalgia glasses" issue with this game. it's not perfect but I still love it so much. Thanks for the shout out and I'm glad you gave this a play. :D
Cool video Pam! I might as well list my recommendations for affordable NES games that are lesser-known, but are still worth trying out. I'm going by Pricecharting and decided to narrow it down to games less than $20: Conquest of the Crystal Palace Desert Commander Galaxy 5000: Racing in the 51st Century Mendel Palace Pinbot Pirates! Shingen the Ruler Space Shuttle Project The Magic of Scheherazade Zanac
This game has eluded me over the years and I still haven't played it and honestly it was never something I thought would be worth the time to seek out. My first impression seeing it is that it reminds me of Dragon Spirit (which is pretty good). The dragon at 4:42 really makes me think of Dragon Spirit. Good review!
My cousin and I played this religiously every day one summer, a lot of fine memories with this one. The arcade version is even cooler I think. Great video as always.
"Not a very long game" unless if you go through it 100% then it's a guaranteed 45 minutes lol. Thankfully I made a 100% run of this game on my channel and am the only one to have done so haha. Nice vid.
Uh I am the same. I can't get past the first stage. I need to practice more. But I dart to make progress. Then die die die. Get frustrated. Then pop in a NES game I am really good at to make me feel better. Like mega man 2 lol.
Good video! I talked about this game a bit a few Collectorcasts ago in the coop games segment. I played it a ton as a kid with my brother, so probably a bit of rose tint on the glasses bit I really loved it. We played a ton of this, Life Force, and Jackal.
Nice review. I agree that this game is tough in the beginning. When we played it with my friend for the first time we were thinking that giant head was the boss of the level, and the brain-eyed thing was the final boss) After that i kinda get used to what this game throws at me. You just need to memorise the patterns. The last level is almost imposibble without phoenix-mode if you don't know what you doing. PS And what a coincedence, another game that i completed with no deaths... I need to scan your channel)
Oh boy, I got excited when I saw this review in my feed when I woke up! I LOVE Legendary Wings! What a coincidence, I just released my Top 10 Capcom NES Games and this one is on it. It is pretty tough until you get fully powered up and can take several hits. I didn't like it much as a kid and didn't fully appreciate it until I tried it again as a teenager when my gaming skills had vastly improved. My biggest issue with it is that the bosses just repeat themselves, from the three-headed dragon to the "phallic" brain-looking thing. Kinda lame. What do you think of the music? I really like it. This review definitely gets a LIKE!!
+Westapo: Video Games and Loud Music Also, I'm pretty bummed my copy of Legendary Wings doesn't play 'The Danger Zone' during the danger levels :( What's up with that?!
+Westapo: Video Games and Loud Music Yeah, the whole end boss being the same every level is kind of lame, but it's still an overall solid game with really good music.
+Brasel TheGamer I'm glad that you replied to my comment, cuz I meant to check out your channel based on Pam's suggestion, and then I forgot. Thanks for reminding me, cuz I checked out your channel and it's packed with goodies! I loaded a ton of your vids on my 'Watch it Later' list (I like to watch TH-cam on my TV). I hafta say I really dig the "lesser known" TH-cam gaming channels, as this is like the third channel I've discovered just from engaging with people in the comment threads on Pam's channel alone. The comments here aren't packed with trolls and tripe that the more popular channels are bombarded with. It's pretty refreshing, and restores my faith in "gamer humanity".
Whats up, videos are getting better and it sounds like you're getting more comfortable with commentating so keep it up. So this game is basically Dragon Spirit in wolves clothing isn't it? Not sure which came first but because Dragon Spirit was an icon of my childhood I'm going to say Legendary Wings copied it ; )...I may have just dated myself there.
Own the game and it is one of my favorites, it reminds me of one of my favorite shoot em ups, Phelios on the sega genesis. Legendary wings inspired Wings of wor
This looks like a pretty good old school shooter. They were definitely all about the power ups. This game looks pretty fun, but the high contrast background colors were a little much at times. Especially when you hit the point just after the 4 minute mark in your video. I'd rather see a simple blank black screen than that mess. lol
i just love the arcade version of it, i played it a lot in the 80's - sad that the nes version wasn’t that good, seeing that technically was possible to be a lot better (a task for homebrew retro coders these days?)
+Krishon Mathis Gun-Nac, The Guardian Legend, Felix the Cat. And for newer, XCOM, Planescape Torment, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Shadow of the Colossus. There's a video about my favourite games from a while ago.
This game has a special place in my heart. I used to play this game at my grandparents with my brother when I was a kid. Absolutely love this game and the memories. Thank you for making this video.
Very nice review, this is a really cool game. I bought this game a little while ago and it actually used to be one of my favorites when i was younger. After watching your review a day or two ago, i thought though i'd give this game another go today. Wellllllll, today i actually beat this game for the first time ever, a small victory i suppose but still awesome. Thanks for the review and the tips on the power ups, they make all the difference in this game. Please keep the reviews coming and happy holidays.
I had this back in the day. It wasn't one of my favorites and I don't remember beating it. But seeing this review certainly pulled at my nostalgia strings. By the way, I put a quick clip of you in my latest video.
I suck at games like this. And always for the same reason. I have a hard time seeing enemy bullets. I can't usually beat the first stage in games like this. But I will admit, I never really tried very hard.
+Jay M That's a problem I find at some point with most shoot'em ups. It gets hard to differentiate between colourful flashing friendlies and colourful flashing things that will kill you (and the colourful, flashing background).
those r some neat games here's mine grand theft auto series the new tombraiders series ultimate alliance the arkym night series resident evil an the NBA 2kseries metalgear ps1 edition megaman games as well chip n Dale for the new ducktales new doubledragon 1 and 2 sonic CD those r just some I threw out there an my favorite system would b the ps1 oh an is guardian legend a new game I thank I had that 1 as well
Crazy enough, the Japanese version, the players aren't two guys. The first player is a female, Michelle Heart. Not sure why Capcom felt the need to change the gender of the character for.
One of the worst games I’ve ever played. I tried returning it after renting it and they asked why and I said it sucked. Needless to say they declined my request
I know it's two years late XD, but the reason you had a hard time telling which things to use the gun on and which ones to use the "missiles" on was because they weren't "missiles". They were BOMBS. :) So you were launching "bombs" down at things that were attached to the ground. So anything that moved with the ground was something to use bombs on. That also might explain why you don't use the secondary weapon, bombs, indoors.
Why do they do such things to us?! D: I had this game in 1990, but it was one of the only ones where I didn't have the manual because I got it from someone else.
I spent so many hours trying to blast through this as a kid!!
I finished this game 28 years ago. The full soundtrack is still permanently etched into my brain. Memories...
C'mon Capcom, I would love to see a remake or sequel to this long-forgotten property! I did like the cameo in MvC.
There was also a cartridge that paired the game with Jackal, the Jeep shoot 'em up inspired by the Rat Patrol. That was a perennial favourite.
We didn't have much money growing up but we did have an NES. My older sister bought us a game genie and we spent a lot of time looking at the descriptions of games in the code book. My first impression seeing it is that it reminds me of Dragon Spirit (which is pretty good). The dragon at 4:42 really makes me think of Dragon Spirit. Good review!
+Wil's VG Addiction Honestly, I wouldn't spend too much time seeking it out. I enjoyed it, but there are much better shoot'em ups out there.
It's definitely low priority but it's one of 137 I still need for a full US set.
My cousin and I played this religiously every day one summer, a lot of fine memories with this one. The arcade version is even cooler I think. Great video as always.
+Retro Cynical Thank you
The lucky level music was awesome... always my favorite part of the game
"Not a very long game" unless if you go through it 100% then it's a guaranteed 45 minutes lol.
Thankfully I made a 100% run of this game on my channel and am the only one to have done so haha.
Nice vid.
I need to play this game more. I can't get past the first level.
+Chris Miller It's tough. If I lost that first power up it was game over.
Uh I am the same. I can't get past the first stage. I need to practice more. But I dart to make progress. Then die die die. Get frustrated. Then pop in a NES game I am really good at to make me feel better. Like mega man 2 lol.
i have the version available on capcom classics on the ps2. i need to play both sometime. nice vid as always!
I suck so bad at shmups, but oddly, I love watching people play them. It's like being a quadriplegic that's a big fan of the Step Up movies.
Or just someone who sucks at dancing >.>
Yeah, I went a little too hard with my analogy. Lol.
Good video! I talked about this game a bit a few Collectorcasts ago in the coop games segment. I played it a ton as a kid with my brother, so probably a bit of rose tint on the glasses bit I really loved it. We played a ton of this, Life Force, and Jackal.
+Bil McGee I'm always happy when I can find anything co-op (especially with no friendly fire) but the slowdown made this one tough.
Nice review! This game reminds me of dragon spirit! They are similar games that are both pretty fun!
dragon spirit i liked as a side scrolling shooter and yes it does
Great Review and I find it a decent game. I don't recall the slow down during 2 player but its been many years since I have played it 2 players.
+Nintendo Hodge Thanks!

Those who are interested in shoot `em ups like this should also look for "Gynoug" aka "Wings of Wor" and "Phelios" for Mega Drive / Genesis.
Great video. I picked this up a couple months ago, very fun.
+GameEnthus Thanks!
sorry bout the misprint when I said new I meant nes!

+Westapo: Video Games and Loud Music The music is awesome! I guess my copy must have been a special edition that came with Danger Zone.
+Brasel TheGamer I'm glad that you replied to my comment, cuz I meant to check out your channel based on Pam's suggestion, and then I forgot. Another overlooked gem of a game! I remixed this game theme too
Whats up, videos are getting better and it sounds like you're getting more comfortable with commentating so keep it up. So this game is basically Dragon Spirit in wolves clothing isn't it? Not sure which came first but because Dragon Spirit was an icon of my childhood I'm going to say Legendary Wings copied it ; )...I may have just dated myself there.
+FondyCrew I think Legendary Wings came out in arcades first, though I've never played Dragon spirit.
I played this game in 1989 😃
Hi, Pam. I'm glad to see you review an NES game again. Amazing and fun review as always. You are so cool. Glory from Lord JS.
Own the game and it is one of my favorites, it reminds me of one of my favorite shoot em ups, Phelios on the sega genesis. Legendary wings inspired Wings of wor
What do you use to record. PS I love your videos
+BerserkBird I use a Hauppauge hd pvr Rocket.
Thank you

+Galactic Zombie I find a lot of shooters do that. Just way too much going on in the background.
i just love the arcade version of it, i played it a lot in the 80's - sad that the nes version wasn’t that good, seeing that technically was possible to be a lot better (a task for homebrew retro coders these days?)
The arcade game is the best. Spent a lot of quarters on it. The graphics are great. Top Gun baby.
hey what r some of the best games u ever played?
+Krishon Mathis Gun-Nac, The Guardian Legend, Felix the Cat. And for newer, XCOM, Planescape Torment, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Shadow of the Colossus. There's a video about my favourite games from a while ago.
This game has a special place in my heart. I used to play this game at my grandparents with my brother when I was a kid. Absolutely love this game and the memories. Thank you for making this video.
Glad you enjoyed it
This game Reminds me a lot like Summer Carnival 92 with the top down-prospective stages.
+Ninten70 I've never played that one.
Cannot be Tamed It's a Japanese shoot em up video game and it's really hard.
That is crazy legendary Wings was popular where I was at
Good review, I think I might have to unbox the NES now.
+Village Monk's Gaming Memories Thanks
this game was fun the one i really liked and its another side scrolling shooter dragon spirt was good
Enjoys upgrading her weapon to penetration power level, but when up against the phallic boss she flees.
hey again question how long do u thank the current gen systems will last an what do u thank the next step in gaming will b like?
For more phallic stuff, go check gynoug for the sega mega drive...a very similiar game 🤣🤣
"occasional dragons.." heh!
I had famiclone hack that gave u full power up from the start
Very nice review, this is a really cool game. I bought this game a little while ago and it actually used to be one of my favorites when i was younger. Thanks! That's awesome you beat it, it's a tough game.
This was my shit back in the days
I used to be able to kill every enemy and those statue heads and get all the bonus treasure without dying...
looks like an nice new game an good review
I meant new game
THIS GAME WAS COOL BUT TOUGH . MUSIC WAS COOL.
@Cannot be Tamed Micelle Heart should have been in the NES version of Legendary Wings.
great video, sweet games.
I got this for my birthday when I turned 10. I was really hoping I was going to get Zelda for instead and hated this game and barely played it.
penetration never makes me feel useless either
Cool thanks
the missles kill the statue animal like things in about 3shots
reminds me of Life Force by Konami
great vid
I had this back in the day. It wasn't one of my favorites and I don't remember beating it. But seeing this review certainly pulled at my nostalgia strings. By the way, I put a quick clip of you in my latest video.
+Retro Nonsense I just watched it. That was so great!
Dope game
Might have to give this another try, got it few years ago & I had same first impression of it being a sub par shooter!
+RetroPixel The levels get more interesting as they go.
“Phallic” hahaha
I had to put on my booty shorts and thigh high boots to watch this review! 😄
I suck at games like this. And always for the same reason. I have a hard time seeing enemy bullets. I can't usually beat the first stage in games like this. But I will admit, I never really tried very hard.

Great review.
Save the world in Hooker Boots and Assless Chaps.,.., count me in😶👍🙏💯
Crazy enough, the Japanese version, the players aren't two guys. The first player is a female, Michelle Heart. Not sure why Capcom felt the need to change the gender of the character for.
Yeah, I mentioned that in the video.
love the game but never finish it ..lol
This game is similar to Wings Of Wor.
Hah, nice use of Danger Zone there. Great closing joke.
+Stephen Wilds I can't see the words danger and zone without using that song. Thanks!
+Cannot be Tamed Are you an Archer fan?
I also thought it was weird Capcom would take out the playable female character Michelle but replace her with a dude in pink underwear?!
+Ryan AirZonkWorldChamp Yeah, they changed the protagonists a couple times and I don't really see any reason why.
this game is legendary lol
The Danger Zone music... perfect.
:D
Another good nes review. THUMBS DOWN!!! Haha
+ben decker Uggh, I went a whole hour without a dislike.
+Cannot be Tamed haha, I'm waiting for dislikes on my videos since I started my channel.
One of the worst games I’ve ever played. I tried returning it after renting it and they asked why and I said it sucked. Needless to say they declined my request

They're called missiles in the manual.
Why do they do such things to us?! D:
I had this game in 1990, but it was one of the only ones where I didn't have the manual because I got it from someone else.
Marry me right now Pam :)
good video but that game looks miserable
try the arcade version too...
