people in LA should be talking about having better fire prevention measures - better housing regulations - do not use materials that burn this easily - have experts devise strategies to make it impossible for a fire to just blast through entire neighbourhoods - the way these fires were able to basically burn down thousands of houses is incredible. maybe there is a way to stop these fires by implementing changes. california and other affected states should run simulations and protect the most vulnerable areas by applying techniques to prevent fires in such conditions to burn down entire neighborhoods - maybe you need zones where the fire can not pass that easily, or you need to use other material for the exterior of the houses or you need to be able to detect fires earlier and have drones with fire extinguishers ready to combat fires automatically.
He lost memorabilia from his career and 20+ years of he and his wife's memories. Regardless if he's renting or not, what he lost is like a death in the family.
regret also to move here therefore. his home was in brooklyn with his wife's family. even when he was with the clippers i think he used to spend the offseason there. he will be hurting, those tears are real.
I'm so sorry for everyone that loss their homes. I cry for you. I feel the hurt from people that are on camera talking about it. I don't care if you have money are not. Everyone is hurting and needs our prayers.
This is so sad. As a former SoCal resident my heart breaks for everyone who has lost so much. Prayers to JJ Redick, his family, all those affected and to the courageous first responders. 🙏🙏❤️❤️
Where im from, they always say going through fire/home being burned down is given equal remorse and sympathy like a death in the family. material loss can always be replaced, its the years/ decades of memories and love that is tragically is gone forever.
I watched his interview on Architectural Digest of his New York apartment a few years ago and the sentimental attachment he had for all his things, how everything had a meaning or memory attached to it. You see these people, celebrities or not, famous or not, they lost more than their homes. Some things cannot be replaced. I’m glad for their safety and I hope every person and animal can get out in time, the loss of life (human, pets, wildlife) is devastating.
As a Lifelong Tar Heel, I begrudgingly found myself becoming a fan of this guy’s amazing podcast, his passion and knowledge of the game as a broadcaster and although I’ll never root for a LeBron team, I want him to be successful as a coach. When he talked about losing his child’s drawing in this devastating fire, it became clear we are all so similar. Loss hurts but family comes first. I’m glad you and your family are safe JJ.
Thank God his family his safe. The devastation in Pacific Palisades is unbelievable...surreal. It honestly reminds me of photos of Tokyo after the 1945 firebombing raid. I hope as a country we can all get together and do whatever is necessary to help all the people who lost their homes.
Some of you in the comments are dense, with the “he’s only renting”. First off, someone just lost their asset/rental property. So they lost income. Capitalism, the American way. Second, JJ said that it was the things from being with his wife of 19 yrs, and his kids sentimental things. Are you people listening?Although him not owning the home, he did move his family here. Which means all their life. Some of y’all just being obtuse for no reason.😏
It's at times like this, that what becomes apparent is that "our purpose must overtake our preservation". May the community in L.A. (both rich and poor - now brought together through joint suffering), whilst under the world's spotlight demonstrate what the unity of loving one another can really do. Well done, Los Angeles. Be proud doers. Be valiant, in love. "Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away." Suffering - the great leveller and refiner of mankind. Rejoice L.A.! Be glad. You have one another, let your ashes and loss, become your joy and exceeding great reward. Let love shine...we're watching you and will rejoice with you.
I guess my initial perception of JJ was inexperienced as a coach and that he was the player JJ. The pure shooter young cocky kid out of Duke University. But obviously he has grown and experienced a lot as an adult. He is still relatively inexperienced as a NBA coach but he is not the brash cocky 20 year old kid we saw at Duke. I hope that JJ and all those affected by the fires can hang in there and recover well from the great traumatic loss and situation that they are facing.
After watching this, it really upsets me to think of those like Trump and his ilk who have politicized this horrific natural disaster. It's disgusting when we should be rallying together for our alleged standard bearer to display such pettiness and depravity.
I read some alarming comments about how people don’t feel bad because they’re millionaires and just want to say that empathy can be dished out for free. It doesn’t hurt to give it to a productive member of society
Dear Newsom and Bass, if you are aware that climate change is happening and wildfires are becoming more frequent, shouldn’t you take steps to prevent them or minimize their impact? For example, thinning forests, clearing fire hazards like bushes and leaves, and increasing the fire department’s budget instead of cutting it?
Is this how lebron goes back to the east because the fire caused people talked about a whole team dying in a plane and they can pick people and have a roster but this is a city burning down
Obviously you have never lived in Southern California or you would not make such a remark. Fires nor the strength of the Santa Ana wins are part of the weather forecast like Hurricanes and tornadoes. If your remarks cannot offer sympathy and prayers for those that have lost so much then refrain from commenting at all.
I’m very sorry for everyone’s loss. Especially, those without the means to rebuild. Yet, it is really difficult for me to have sympathy/empathy for these multi millionaire “victims”! How many homes do these “victims” own? 5, 10, 20? No, you are not a victim. No, you have only been inconvenienced a little. Sorry, we should be interviewing those who are real victims with real losses. Now, wipe those fake tears, pack up the Lamborghini, and move in to one of your other million dollar mansions.
NO ONE IS ILLEGAL. How dare you turn a tragedy of this magnitude into your small minded, misplaced and misguided hatred of immigrants who make up the core of what and who Los Angeles is. A city of angels. Go peddle your hatred somewhere else.
@ No hate here but it seems you have your projection all misguided. I am concerned with the illegal immigrants that should be compensated. End of story.
Good thing is that you will be just fine JJ, you're a multimillionaire. It does suck that you lost all the treasured stuff you had. You're blessed to have so much financial backing
lol he’s not asking for sympathy. He’s talking about the tragedies especially for for ppl who aren’t okay from all of this. He’s talking about helping the communities and everyone in need, yes of course we all know he’s gonna be alright.
Look at the bright side, JJ and his family got out of the lease now after property prices take a massive dive he can come back and buy land for a song. He was renting!
Terrible to comment these thoughts. Being a Dad & losing sentimental things that your kids accomplished is devastating. As he stated, doesn’t care about anything materialistic that he lost, it’s all about losing what you have kept as a family - photos, drawings, all the family sentimental things gone. Wish them and everyone else all the strength & will power to get through this.
Yeah because people who lost their homes or who had to evacuate are so worried about a Lakers game and if the Lakers play they’ll have soo much more Hope. FOH. What’s this guy talking about??
