  • I make a DIY rough ground anchor for my small boat and use it to spend a relaxing day bait fishing for cod, wrasse and pollock in the north east of England.

I've only ever gone fishing once in my life. It was at a stocked lake here in Nova Scotia, all catch and release. I can see why people enjoy it.

Your little roof mod works a treat. I fish the Sabiki etc, try adding a shell on fresh prawn to each one.

Yes it feels very luxurious under there....I will take some prawns next time I go out. If the sea ever drops away that is, the swell forecast looks terrible at the moment.

Should check out the Fishlocker channel how he sets his anchor up, saves you pulling it the boat does it all for you pretty much with the buoy. cheers for sharing your escapades again.

Cheers Marco I have learnt a load of useful stuff from watching the fish locker. All my seafishing tactics come straight from there! For the aldernay ring technique to work though you need anchor chain that weighs more than your anchor otherwise it slips straight back through the ring once the boat stops. I only have anchor chain for my proper anchor and that only goes over when the bottom is clean sand.
Are you on the grayling yet? The Tweed looks like it holds fine ones.

You need a length of chain on the anchor round about 20ft,

I've got 20ft of chain on my 'good' anchor but for rough ground I'd rather not. I lost a good anchor when the chain got caught around rock which is why I made up those disposable anchors. It seems to be working so far.
