I love your channel so much bro. I’ve been working so hard for the last 4 years hoping to get myself into a 335i myself. It’s gonna be tough to be able to afford to build it how I want but it’s my ultimate dream. 5 years clean and never looking back. My life’s become so much better since giving up drugs as a way of life. And now cars has filled that space. Tax seasons almost here and I can’t wait because I should hopefully get enough to get my 335i!!! Just thinking about it makes me emotional. I will do it! When you do, please make sure seller has a binder full of maintenance receipts or you’ll end up like me being 6k deep into the car just to keep it on the road. I’m jus now tuning my n54.

I have a 2011 335i (the one E90 year with the N55) and although the exhaust is stock (minus the resonator), it still sounds incredible and puts a smile on my face whenever I drive it
Love the N55 (F30) and the N54 (E90). I have both (really). The wife got the E90 and beat it to near death, I sold my G37s and bought her a reasonably priced F30/N55 (sportline). Gotta say, the F30s ZF8HP45 is worlds different than the E90s ZF6HP21 and the default sport and sport + on the F30 are much more refined. With an exhaust and a cat delete, it's pretty crazy (and a bit more reliable). Nice post! And ya... Really sad about Ken Block... #43forever
Totally agree I have a 2015 F30 335i and it sound 100x better then my stock twin E90 n54 but nothing like my upgraded twin e92 335is

I gotta say, I love both my F30/N55 and my E90/N54... Theyre different and both are amazing. The differences aren't worth arguing about though.
Couldn't agree more! The twin turbos with different length downpipes make the N54 sound like two 3 cylinders rather than a smooth 6 which is nicer on any performance car. Equal length headers on anything but Subarus is the way to go for a nice sound, Ferrari for example used unequal length headers on the 599 GTB (essentially 4 3 cylinders) and it sounds ok, but for the 599 GTO and SA Aperta they used 6 into 1 headers for each bank (2 6 cylinders) it it sounds magnificent by comparison(with a similar engine)!
Wow; really well stated. 👍🏻 the N54 with a single and a good manifold sounds amazing too. It’s just a different sound. I agree the twin turbo sound is different than the N55s. It’s also harder to manage 2x everything for pressure side in the N54 and newer M platforms. Its not better or worse in my opinion than a single when both are done well but definitely different.

You would be surprised the power the N55 can make with the right upgrades but the cost to get the numbers is way more expensive than the N54 platform.
True on the upgrades. The B58 is even more cash but the results can be better than the N55.
No matter how much money you’ll spend on the n55 if you’ll spend the same amount on the n54 you’ll make more power and it will be more reliable

@@ganuv I disagree on the reliability part between the two. The engineering on the N54 is like 14 years+ old, and the N55 is less than 10. The power, dollar for dollar in mods, I think that the N54 is likely a better platform for power than the N55. Either can be money pits if you want to spend $30Ks + on bulletproofing top and bottom ends for stupid power levels (800+) but most ppl aren't gonna spend anywhere near that on older platforms to go straight.
@@SteveWeltman i got my e93 335i n54 in 2021. since owning it i had the engine fully forged top to bottom, polish ported heat, bigger bore, oversized pistons, race cams, methonal, 19T turbos and so much more im pushing 830bhp
I have to agree n55 sounds so good. I have catted downpipe and non-resonated mpe exhaust, it’s just music to my ears.
As a former B58 owner, N55 best sounding BMW turbo straight 6. I also had AWE with VRSF catless (with upgraded turbo, intake, and inlet) and it was diesel truck down low and 90’s tuner Japanese car up top. N55 just sounds good all the time.

My n54 with the 3.5” vrsf full race setup, with the 2-1 merge collector etc is what it takes to make one sound as good as an n55. It’s still different but imo it sounds absolutely incredible in its own way. I’ll upload more clips soon.

Preventatice maintenance ALWAYS first. Especially on a n54. I bought an already customized 335i n54 and it’s amazing if you take care of it. Bulletproof engines.

N55 owner here, and when I put on my downpipe and exhaust, I found it WAY too loud and it droned bad in the cabin. I had an exhaust shop install an exhaust insert and it made the drone vanish.
Also, you can do just a little bit of burble and it sounds good

Changed my mind, ordered the Downpipe just now.. Add it to the list of parts I will have for my F10 that I will take forever to install.. Precision Racing Coils, RVG FMIC, now this Downpipe, I guess the good news s, I will be ready for Stage 2 if I ever install these items.

All thanks to VVL its the same with n52 it sounds way better than n53 because have VVL. Its like ITB's but the valves are actually a throttle bodies.

I only like the burbles with a 0.5 second burble into a 0.5 second Hard aggressive pop. its perfect for that aggressive quick sound between gears! I have it set to activate only between 3000-6000RPMs. If i was going to change something i would probably increase the activating point to 3000-6400rpms. Other than that i think its perfect as is. Eco mode turns it off completely. comfort mode switches it to the normal casual driving pop. sport mode is when i want to annoy people or if people want to hear and see the pops bangs and fire lol
I mean you cant beat the laughter and wtf thats crazy feeling when it pops like crazy but it gets old when it just doesnt stop. I had it set to 2200rpms at one point and it drove me nuts because thats around where i shift gears driving casually so sometimes i would pop like crazy for absolutely no reason. changed that in the tune real fast lol.

If Your definition of better sound is an E36 with a blown muffler, then Yes! By all means this setup N55 sounds better. TT N54s have much more rumble to them. But IMHO equal length header Single Turbo N54s beat all of these.

Speaking of the MHD burbles, I turned it back to stock to diagnose an issue and tuned it back on but the burble tune won’t work, have any ideas on why? Before I get roasted it’s on soft at the lowest setting lmao, just want more than the Catless DP gives me

To be honest bro i agree i had n54 diehard and my friend had a n55 and its not fair his has like factory crackling and sounds epic even with my n54 mhd stage 1+ aggressive burble id snap louder but only rolling hard. His crackles way better and easily and he could troll around making it sound cool. i had to rip mine to sound epic

@@VehicleVirals The reason I'm asking is because I didn't find one installed when I put my VRSF downpipe in. I didn't have a gasket, so I installed the downpipe without the gasket and I think that the whistling noise that I hear between 1500 and 4000 rpm is because of that. No sings of exhaust fumes or anything like that around that area, just the noise.
I, too, have an N54 and N55. I agree the N55 sounds better.
i want to get an f30 335i but the cheaper ones have the steptronic w/o paddle shifters. is it worth not getting the paddle shifter 8 speed to save money? i also want to tune it.
I don't have the sporty transmission. Car is fine. You can always tune the trans and retrofit the paddles.

Single turbo always sounds better than twin turbo. It's why the M2 with the S55 single turbo sounds better than the twin turbo charged F80 M3.

n55 SOUNDS better than the n54 period in all cases... swapping in a new single turbo to n54 does make the n54 sound better... but then you have the do the same to n55 and again it will sound better with the new single turbo.....

I think any true BMW guy who has owned an N54 (or heard one) and an N55, will admit that the N55 does sound so much better than the N54.
The N54 with the N55 mids etc does sound good, but yeah the N55 wins on that one.
