    Great review. I happen to do quality control at ikea. I haven't had the chance to get my hands on one of these yet but you've already given me a good impression of what a customer can experience and where we can improve. Looking forward to the full review. 👌🏽

    Sick review, thank you for the upload mate !! I got the somfy blinds in a rush cause really wanted smart blinds but they don’t have the WiFi function unless you spend £250 on another bit of kit which is twice the price of the blinds so no point really. When I can find these in stock will grab them !! Thank you again for the review

    Completely agree with everything said here. I had the exact same experience with the added bonus I am still not able to get Alexa working with the Ikea hub. I was equally confused about how to set the blind stop limit and ran into issues when pairing. It took me 2 hours to get everything working correctly. Now they are up however they do look great. Only other thing - I can;t believe there is no option in the app to have them open/close based on sunset/sunrise in your defined locality. Crazy.

    The under cabinet lights, power supplies, remote and gateway have the same issues. And worse, every time they update the firmwares, it breaks Alexa integration and you have to re add everything quite often.

    I’ve looked into this. I actually love the grey fabric. I wish IKEA would come up with more different size blinds. I know they’re not in customization, their stuff are off the shelf but there’s a brand that you can get off the shelf and they will cut with precision with their in store machine.

    Thanks, I just fitted these blinds. I agree the instructions were terrible. They came with 9 booklets, each with just a few lines of English and many other languages. Just a simple few pages of pictures would have been more simple. They were pretty easy to fit and i've never fit blinds before. Although I should have left more then the 16 cm between the edge of the blind and the attachment as that meant they aren't perfectly in the middle of the window and I can't be bothered to drill more holes right now.
    The paperwork and description of the product online both didn't mention I needed to buy a £25 gateway. I feel quite let down by that, since it should be clear. I just assumed it was the name of the free app to download. Thanks to your video I can at least go to sleep knowing it is impossible to set the blinds to open and shut each day automatically with the equipment I have.

      Pairing remotes have always been a problem with TRÅDFRI. It takes many tries, and if 1 remote needs updating, you should stop pairing more remotes before it is finished (or everything will halt). Which you will get no status on how long the update takes. The joke is that if you use any other gateway like Hue, deCONZ or Smartthings, pairing works fine.
      TouchLink works fine without a gateway, but IKEA really needs to stop using TouchLink with their gateway, and switch to QR-codes for pairing. Which is part of the ZigBee standard: zigbee.org/download/zigbee-alliance-qr-code-requirements/
      I bought one of the blinds and intended to make a video of the install process. But it ended up just being me complaining about the pairing process.
      th-cam.com/video/bq8GYVZPJtk/w-d-xo.html
      Because I used the big remote in a project, I have paired more that 100 remotes, and for me it still take many ties. Link to project (in Danish): www.thingiverse.com/thing:3655354

    I like devices like this but as we all know it is not if but when the motor and gears will fail on these blinds. Add all the other things like charging the batteries and replacing them and you have something that does not make your life "smart". My parents had motorized blinds 25 years ago and they were hard wired and they lasted about 5 years till they broke. I will look for blackout blinds with cords, thank you for this review.

The way you have to install them, they are too far from the windows and light is coming from the sides ... which makes them unsuitable for a bedroom in my opinion. • @JRsReviews
      @JRsReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it’s needed because the remote and blinds are battery operated and goto sleep when not in use. The repeater is the perm connection and I think the range of the blind is limited meaning depending on the location it may not reach the hub

    • @dvwebster
      @dvwebster 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have paired the blind with a ST hub directly. By setting the DH to be ZigBee Window Shade some control is possible. The ST Classic App slider does control position but it seems reversed from what I expected. The Open/Close buttons do not work correctly but the Pause button does work.

    Totally pointless size limitations means blackout blinds placed side by side for bigger windows means they have huge gaps and won’t stop any light coming in. There’s got to be a better solution for getting custom sizes for those of us with wide windows or to pair these units in a line.

      Yes, I think the limit is 10 now. But you have a repeater for each blinds you buy, so I have 5 blind and 5 repeaters - that's enough to make nice ZB network for everything including Ikea bulbs, etc.

  • @Th3_Gael
    @Th3_Gael 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Build quality looks decent but the fact you need to use the repeater and that I can't use it with offline software is a big no.
    Why do people think smart is hooking something to the Internet? I'd love to see how "smart" your houses are with no Internet connection...
    My house control is offline for a reason

    • @JRsReviews
      @JRsReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Smart is not about being connected to the internet. Most of my house is smart, with 95% available offline if the internet or WiFi is down.
      But specific to these blinds, you can control them with controls direct on the unit

    • @Th3_Gael
      @Th3_Gael 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I should clarify my smart comment.
      Things are touted as smart when you can control them with an app. Like voice control that's not smart just another form of control, like using the buttons on the device.
      As for these blinds I might buy a set becuase of ikeas build quality vs price but they'll likely be ripped apart and modified.
      The repeater and using their app are the big no points for me.
      Automating things shouldn't need a hundred boxes littered around my house

    • @JRsReviews
      @JRsReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Active JR I have two of these FYRTUR blinds and despite what the instructions or app may tell to you don’t have to use the repeater once paired. If the gateway is within range the repeater is not needed at all. If you want to dig deep into this technology all the IKEA smart stuff are just ZigBee devices, you could just have the blind and a ZigBee dongle and make them work in any way you want, there is plenty of 3rd party software out there.

    Thanks for your video, it helped me immensely.
    The repeater HAS to be on or the blinds no longer work. Even if you put the switch right on top of the blind.
    You have to pair the switch to the repeater - and you have to see the switch slow flash twice to confirm. Then repeat the same with the blind, the switch has to slow flash twice AND the blind do the same, plus twitch the roller. If that doesn't happen, it won't have paired.
    Waking the blind by pressing both buttons once basically breaks everything - the switch no longer controls the blind.
    I'm hoping this will all be fixed if I get a hub so it can update the firmware.

    My biggest worry is what happens when the batteries run out? Is there an EEPROM that saves all the connection data or will you have to re-program them all over again? It seems crazy you cannot continuously charge the batteries up by a super-thin almost transparent ribbon giving a trickle charge via a nearby USB point or a solar feed. How long will a charged battery last in terms of numbers of up or down cycles for example? I bet there isn't even a warning light or sound to remind you to recharge the battery so you don't get the 100% drained effect with the blinds down fully or even half way down.
    Imagine the hassle of having to reprogram the pesky things every 100 cycles as well as getting out the step ladders to access the battery. I have quite a few wireless devices that have rechargeable batteries inside and almost all of them have a USB port on the device plus a nice long charge up cable you can attach once you know it needs a 'refill' or better still leave it connected permanently.
