I worked on the DshK encounter for this mission. The RPG hut at the end of the mission was designed by the legendary Tony Barnes of Strike series fame from the 16 bit era. Ton of great devs on this team, a few are still there working for Ripple Effect.
Rewatching it just now, realizing I made every character, weapon, enemy, and vehicle. A guy on my current dev team is ex special forces and still tells me how this mission is the most accurate portrayal ever in a game.

This game really knew how to make the player feel overwhelmed. Literally felt like Lone Survivor or Black Hawk Down. Luckily the ending of the mission was a lot happier than those movies.
How is the ending exactly much happier in the game than in the films as you mention? Marcus Luttrell survive, Rabbit dies and become DEVGRU's first K.I.A in Afghanistan not mention all those Rangers who dies in the attempt to rescue him.
I must admit that I was playing this mission some years ago with tears in my eyes. Amazing level design, atmosphere, music, voice acting. This mission is a masterpiece. We need MOH to come back and rule the war games again.

True that. I remember playing this and thinking, "I've read some stories about the battles in this region". That sinking feeling of getting to the final hut and slowly realizing exactly what real battle this was reenacting, knowing how the real one went, experiencing the situation live as i was "in" it virtually. It was an incredibly emotional experience to have just the slightest taste of what those guys must have gone through. I didnt feel like the ending was done poorly though as even though the ending was different i think the dire stakes made the rescue all that much more relieving as I didn't expect help to come at all. I just thought we were gonna get wiped out and fight to the last man.
This is by far my favorite mission in the game. The action, the intensity, the emotion, the graphics and the music are all so legendary! This game truly pulls you in and makes you feel like you are actually in the U.S. Military and speaking from someone who wanted to be in the U.S. Military more than anything, it is a truly amazing feeling! This mission also has a Lone Survivor feel to it and you truly feel the helplessness they felt that day. A truly amazing game! PS: Respect to all of our fallen U.S. Military. You will never be forgotten! RIP!
I haven't played these games in so long!! Back then I though knew they were both so underrated, these 2 MOH games and modern warfare 2007 had top tier campaigns. Miss those old days of gaming
IDK if most folks realize that the Patterson here is a testament to the Patterson from the MOH Frontline game from PS2/gamecube. That's his grandfather. And you played him as you landed on the beach of WW2 Normandy. That level had the same emotion of being ambushed from all sides. Brought a tear to my eye when i heard his name and felt the ambush.
I'm not an army brat, but from what I keep observing, there is some form of pride and obligation for descendants of soldiers to follow their forefathers. It's not universal, but it's distinctive that's what.
I replayed this game a while back, and one of the cool details I didn't notice my first time playing was Ybarra isn't an Army Ranger, he's Air Force Tactical Air Control Party. You don't ever get to see Air Force Special Forces in media, so it was pretty cool to see TACP included.

As long as game makers keep these authentic / old school games and remastering them I'll keep buying them , I wouldn't pay 5 cents for the war / battle games that have robots as the enemy / drones and all that other sci fi stuff . Keep it real & authentic .
Unbelievably underrated game. The atmosphere was so good and the graphics hold up today. I vastly preferred its single player to the Modern Warfare games of the time
Medal of Honor series for me is the best military game I've ever played..the story and campaign missions is so closed to real life events of military personnel especially the SEALS..and the game visual is stunning even on this day...EA need to remastered this game or make another game like this..

That's not how you lead, that's just reviewer with the power to force people to redo work unnecessarily. Lead by example. Great team. We worked really hard and had A LOT of obstacles in our way. Still to this day, CoD has not made me feel this immersed in a game. Someone already mentioned it, but it’s true! I felt overwhelmed, I felt helpless, especially towards the end when you’re behind walls and quickly running out of ammo. Granted CoD 4 did have the nuke missions and the AC130 missions which I loved. But this one mission from MoH was unforgettable. Kind of sad to see such a great series die off…
Also, the Apaches flying in and kicking ass is the amazing cherry on top of an already perfect sundae! You don’t want to mess with the Apaches, because they are the helicopter equivalent of a fighter jet!
Still waiting for a MoH taking place in the Korean War.... it's insane not a single franchise has not taken it on yet. So many epic possibilities - dogfights, naval warfare, massive ground battles, banzai charges, tank battles, different environments.... it could basically be a WWII/Vietnam hybrid.

They were overshadowed by Battlefield due to EA's bright idea to release the two series at the same time. The 2010 reboot was forced to compete with BF3 while Warfighter had to contend with BF4 when released in 2013.
Adams, Patterson, Ybarra and Hernandez were so cool throughout this mission. Even if Cpl. had ordered his men to give up at last but the other men had stood their ground against the raging Talibans. It resulted in a good outcome as the gunfighters came up on time. Great job Marines and huge props to the game devs.
I had played this mission years ago and had forgotten how it played out... and i recently replayed it and realized this shit was the most intense thing ever... the apaches at the end! damn! brought tears to my eyes! almost yelled out "YOU BEAUTIFUL BASTARDS, YOU!"
Let's hope that the game makers can stick to these brilliant war / battle games like this , none of that Sci -Fi rubbish for me , the game makers keep to this format and I'll be buying them for sure . WW2 all wars / jungle war / desert war / house to house search and destroy .
I love unloading the 200 round belt with this gun M240 SAW! Very satisfying. I liked the M-60 too when you use it at the end of the later mission. I wish we had a full mission with the M-60 like we do this. Great game.
One of the vest story driven fps and the single most stressful mission I've ever played in a game. You literally felt like there wasn't going to be an exit and constantly felt overrun. The multi-player was fantastic as well.
Amazing experience war fighter was great too they should have pushed more for the storyline metal of honor never was about the multi-player it was about the campaign. I think it would of made this series survive. EA needs to release these back on the market for people to play
I was obsessed with this game. I’m fact I kept this game after my PS3 broke just so I could play it again in the future when o bought another PS3 down the line. It’s been yeeears since I’ve played it though.
Finally someone who knows how to carry on a good firefight .....good usage of the shotgun in the village ...however your CQB and corner clearing is a bit sloppy but it's alright . Overall I enjoyed watching ..brings back a lot of memories .

What makes this game unique is the fact that it's the first and only game to show how bureaucracy and the arrogance & ignorance of politicians always puts soldiers in difficult positions & sometimes gets them killed.
It sucks the second game lost this one’s grounded nuance. It’s just 3 days of different units fighting different fights in theatre. The sequence where you suppress the DSHk and fight off overwhelming enemy fighters in the valley are SUPER memorable and that’s just the first mission with the rangers. Don’t get me started on the level where you little leap frog/peel down an entire mountain as the team guys.

That's because it happened in real life. Look up Operation Anaconda.
It's based on Operation Anaconda and is pretty close enough to that battle. Great game. Rabbit probably represents Neil C. Roberts.

The first time I played this mission I was crying, it was so good and emotional! One of the best and most "realistic" missions I've played on a FPS.

It may only be a game, but it takes a lot of courage and resolve to accept your imminent death. That makes this my favourite level of the whole game.

Small team Tier 1 gameplays are very common now. And a large team of Rangers and infantry gameplay in modern day battlefield is kinda rare.

It sucks the second game lost this one’s grounded nuance. It’s just 3 days of different units fighting different fights in theatre. The sequence where you suppress the DSHk and fight off overwhelming enemy fighters in the valley are SUPER memorable and that’s just the first mission with the rangers. Don’t get me started on the level where you little leap frog/peel down an entire mountain as the team guys.
