Hello I received my Firefly in April 2019 and today it stopped working, the battery is gone, I changed and no longer cares, and I use it for my videos, want to sell yours?
I know this video is 4 years old, but this is one of the few cheap action cameras I seen you review that has very nice image quality and good audio. Very informative video again. Yes, I'm binge watching your videos ha ha
The Firefly 8SE was and still is a great camera overall but lacks the stabilization advances of today's more advanced action cameras. Thanks for watching !
Good review my friend. Very nice camera. Good footages, the stabilization is not the best, but good enough. Coming with all accessories makes a huge difference. Big PLUS! Cheers
Hello i love ur reviews. I have a question. Never had an action camera before. After this video i really want one. GoPro is way too expensive for me. What im looking for is the best image quality. 4k recording would be great, but in full hd the best quality as possible. I would use it for mountain biking in the woods, all around in the parks and of course for hiking to record some beautiful mountains, lakes etc. also which fov version do u recommend? thx.
Darn you! I was already stretching my budget (a lot) to get the AKASO 90 PRO when I read your reviews and looked at the side-by-sides you did. That hooked me enough to cause me to plow through all the comments and replies. When you suggested to someone that he consider the Firefly 8S, I started looking into that. After watching your videos and reading the comments, it now looks like I am getting hooked for another 10 bucks for a Firefly 8SE. On the plus side, I will have excellent video of my wife pummeling me into a bloody pulp. Her motto is "the quickest way to a man's heart is through his chest with a sharp knife". I usually tread cautiously. Seriously, thank you. You saved me from a disappointing purchase and guided me toward a much better selection for my limited budget. The comments about quality control and customer service were of particular note. Your videos made it apparent that, short of spending a LOT more money, I would be hard pressed to find any higher quality camera. Replies from the factory rep, "Hawkeye Firefly Action Camera", told me that the company is actively interested in their customers. Your comments about the frequent updates to their firmware confirmed that this mindset continues even after the sale. I am, among other things, planning to mount it to a 250 quad-copter. RATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just tried to order it with the link provided and got ---- Sorry, this promotion code does not exist. I tried both "Firefly8se" and "firefly8se". On the other hand, they dropped the price to $141.46 John
Nice review! I am completely surprised with the video quality at 1080/60fps it is super crisp. It is true that 4K is not the best but I suppose in the future with a new firmware update could solve this problem or not? The sounds is fantastic too. I am very happy with my new purchase!
O.K. I just pulled the trigger, and bought the 170 FOV version. I think it went through, I just had a fraud alert pop up on my phone, it is 200 am, not able to call the bank until the morning. I hope it's a good one. Thanks for the reviews. If it is a good one, I will probably "pay forward" my apeman, I attached it to my pup, and let him wear it around for a bit.
Great looking camera and love your reviews. Just ordered one from Gearbest and can't wait to try it out. You said it needs a u3 card, can you recommend a good sdcard to use? Thank you
Well done review. I do have a question, I already own an 8s with a 90 degree lens which I get very good results with at 2.5k@60fps using a Zhiyun Smooth Q gimbal, apart from the touch screen, does this later version do anything better that the 8s 90 degree ?
Hello, Im new in the channel and I think its great, congrats! Im about to buy an action camera, which one would you recommend me? This one? If I would have enough budget would you recommend me the hero7? Greetings from Costa Rica!!
The Hero 7 Black and Sony FDR-X3000 are the top of the line action cameras in my opinion, so if you can afford either of them, that's the way I would go, but if you are on a budget, the 8SE is a fantastic camera for the money. Hope this helps
Would you recomend this camera as a vlogging camera with its external microphone? Reason I ask is I am looking for something with good video and audio but on the cheap
Yes, the image quality is great especially if you're going to use 1080@30 or 60fps since it does have stabilization in those resolutions plus the external microphone works very well in this camera, so yes, I think it would work just fine depending on your budget. Hope this helps.
Could you please reach out to them and ask when to expect it in gearbest’s eu warehouse? With your coupon, it’s a nice buy, but I have to pay the tax andimport fees, which could lead the final price to $200. With EU stock, that could be aproximatelly $140. I am planning a vacation and am about to buy a gimbal to have the best videos of it. The main question is the action cam. I’m really excited about this one (not really overwhelmed about its 4K footage), but also have some deals on yi 4K and yi 4K+ through honorbuy EU. Despite yi 4K+ being $260, I am seriously considering it because it’s the final price. What would you recommend? Is yi 4K+ worth it? I was reserching it and it imo seriously competes with Hero6. Thank you.
Well I can tell you that with my experience, the Yi 4K+ was not as good as the GoPro Hero 6 at all, as a matter of fact, mine stopped working after a few weeks and Yi would not do anything about it and it was too late to get a refund. You can always send gearbest a message asking about the EU warehouse stock.
I've got one of these cameras, but the internal mic does not sound like yours. Do you know why and what I can do to make it sound like yours please. The external mic is fine. I've tried all sorts of settings without success. Thank you for your assistance.

ALLШЕVSКИЙ : in 1080 it’s fantastic, at 4K, all cameras get hot because of the demands on the chip. But even at 4K I have never had an issue with my 8SE
After waiting for 2 weeks, my new camera arrived. It wouldn't turn on. I charged the battery. It still wouldn't turn on. I pulled the battery and reinstalled it a couple of times. It turned on. I played with it for a while and turned it off. It refused to turn off. Monkeyed with it for a while, pulled the battery and turned it back on. Decided to flash the latest firmware. Afterwards, it seemed a little better. Made some recordings. Tried to play them on my laptop for the larger screen. The MP4 files don't play on the PC. Played one on the Firefly; it hangs up at 44 seconds of the 5:38 recording. Had to pull the battery to clear it since the camera locked up tighter than a gnats butt stretched over a rain barrel. Sometimes the touch screen works; sometimes not. Sometimes tapping the screen locks up the camera and I have to shuffle the battery to bring it back to life. I got on the HawkeyeFirefly.com website and found it to be totally unintelligible. The "Service" tab brings up a page totally in Chinese with an overseas phone number. "Tech" shows some firmware updates; nothing else. Yes, I read the microscopic manual and I am using a 64gig Sandisk Extreme U3 card. Can I be doing something wrong? Or did I get a dud? What do you suppose the turnaround might be for Gearbest? Sincerely Screwed, John
My first thought was sd card, but your using a U3 so thats good, have you tried a different sd card by chance? Also, try formatting your card in your computer to FAT32 then try again. Hawkeye firefly has a TH-cam channel here and Victor will answer your questions very quickly, as I hope you did not get a dud but I don't feel you did. I formatted it using the camera. I just looked into formatting it with the PC, but the only options available are NTFS or exFat(default). Are 64 gig cards limited to something other than Fat32? Additionally, how could card formatting affect the on/off button? Wouldn't the camera format to compatible format?
john1945xxxxxx : You must be using windows 10 as it does not offer FAT32. Yes sometimes formatting in camera to FAT32 sometimes not. I know this sounds silly but are you holding the power button for a second or two or just a quick touch? They now make it longer hold so you don’t accidentally turn it on. Sometimes a weird sd card can cause issues.
I had Win10, but didn't like it and reverted to Win8. Guess not a full revert. I tried a 32 gig Samsung U1 card I have and it seemed to clear up most (but not all) of the problems. The confusing thing is that both the 64 U3 and the 32 U1 are formatted exFat. The playback still hangs on the 32gig, but it goes to 51 seconds before hanging rather than 44 seconds with the 64 gig. A 13 minute recording on the 32 gig only played back 11 minutes. All of this is being recorded at 1080x60. I tried setting it to 1080x30 but after 1 recording at that setting, it reverted back to 1080x60. Being lazy, I left it there. Yes. I hold on/off for 3 seconds to power down. Sometimes for 20 seconds, before handing it to my wife who keeps it safe until I settle down and stop cussing. I will attempt to format the 64 gig card with my Android tablet or phone. First, I have to learn how. I'm off to see the wizard, the wonderful................................etc.
I just received my Firefly 8SE from Gearbest, and was excited because it took over one month to arrive. I had previously gotten the Akaso V50 Pro and it died after only a couple of days. So I did a test video with the 8SE, and to my disappointment, the camera appears to have a faulty sensor or something. Can anyone tell me what is causing the pink hue in the cloudy sky? Even the still photos had this to some extent. I really love the great reviews for this action cam but hate to wait to send it back and have another one shipped. I tried installing latest firmware and changing the settings and nothing fixed the "pink" problem. th-cam.com/video/r5ZQ2OsFFFo/w-d-xo.html
Wow, that does look like a faulty sensor or the IR cut filter on the lens has an issue. First time I have ever seen that. You need to contact Firefly immediately as it might be a firmware issue or send it back for a replacement as the 8SE is a fantastic camera.
Can i do youtube face cam videos with this ?

So I did a test video with the 8SE, and to my disappointment, the camera appears to have a faulty sensor or something. Can anyone tell me what is causing the pink hue in the cloudy sky? Even the still photos had this to some extent. I really love the great reviews for this action cam but hate to wait to send it back and have another one shipped. I tried installing latest firmware and changing the settings and nothing fixed the "pink" problem.

Wow, that does look like a faulty sensor or the IR cut filter on the lens has an issue. First time I have ever seen that. You need to contact Firefly immediately as it might be a firmware issue or send it back for a replacement as the 8SE is a fantastic camera.
