LEAP fan blades and cases made of 3D woven dry composite material

  • This video from CFM International takes a closer look at the composite innovations taking place in engines for todays modern aircraft. The LEAP fan blades and cases are made of a 3D woven RTM composite material and provide considerable weight savings, compared to the same size fan made using the same titanium blades in some of today's engines. The composite blades are much more resistant to foreign object damage and are more resistant to fatigue caused by high-cycle operation.

    Beautiful work and ideas. You are way ahead of me, but I am only getting started, and on something else entirely, but it is all about the concept of weaving materials, which led me here. Absolutely outstanding. Congrats.
