    Thank you so much for this video. I'm a brand new newbie and this video just saved me over $1000. I just purchased the ASIAIR PLUS but didn't realize that I could actually see the image from my DSLR camera. I thought I was going to have to purchase a ZWO lense in order to see the image. I've already spent around $2000 and really can't afford another $1000. Your video has already helped me tremendously. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. Can't wait to get started.

    Hi, awesome video. I have only recently found your channel and I have to say so far you are by far the easiest to understand and follow in these tutorial type vids. I'm 14 months into astro and recently got an AIR to use with my DSLR ( T3i modded ) so this video is literally a Blessing from above because i've had a nightmare getting my AIR to work both with my DSLR AND my mount! ( which incredibly happens to be the same as yours! ( HEQ5 Pro ).
    Thanks sooo much from Liverpool, England!

    After polar aligning, send your mount to home position through ASI air (find it in mount setting > go to home) that way you don't have to turn everything off and manually put the mount to home.
    You had problems because when you were doing polar aligning, the RA rotated by 60 deg and ASI air thought that was the home position.

    • @AstroEscape
      @AstroEscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The new polar align doesn't do one 90 degree rotation, it does three shorter ones. I usually PA -> find focus star -> PA again if I feel first wasn't good -> go to target for the night. Usually that doesn't present any problems when going straight from PA. If you watch close during the slew to Sirius, the DSLR and mount both disconnected right when the slew started. Not sure why, but a restart helped, as it does for a lot of tech devices!

    Question: when do you get to use other bin’ on the asiair app?

    • @AstroEscape
      @AstroEscape  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those are primarily based on your combination of gear to get the pixel scale in between 1-2." Add in seeing conditions and you could bin 2x2 if it helps your set up. Plug your gear into astronomy.tools/calculators/ccd_suitability and play around with the seeing and see if binning would help.

    Thanks for this video, Dylon. It filled a gap in that most other videos about the ASIair Plus/Pro use a DSO camera (cooled), so it's refreshing and encouraging to those who have just a DSLR. My DSLR is a modified Canon 700D that I haven't used nearly enough, but hopefully, when I get my ordered ASIair Plus, I'll rectify that.
    You mentioned in closing that you were going to make a video of your workflow in Pixinsight using these images. I tried searching TH-cam for it but wasn't successful. If you have posted it, I would appreciate the link as I am hazy about how you handle HDR subjects.

Just got a Nikon Z6ii which saw first light with that rig last night. Had my ISO up too high so I need to try it again tonight. Question for you - why did the exposure look fine on my tablet on the ASIAIR app, yet my images on the camera were almost completely washed out? Just a standard USB Mini cable is all you need. For filters, it really depends on what you want to do. If you plan on using lenses, get clip ins. But, while I was there waiting for the shot for this video to run I did read the rules, and I could organize something, it would just take some approval and maybe a volunteer or two that's trained on the big scopes. We'll see! Other than that, if you're part of the club, keep an eye out for emails asking if anyone's planning to go to either observatory or help with other things, I usually speak up if I'm planning on it!
      It's also been asked about a meetup at Cherry Springs on a weekend that's not one of the annual star parties. That's also on my mind for making it happen. I've talked to the manager of the park and I'm sure he'd be willing to accommodate.

      Ehhhhh I wouldn't recommend it aside from Moon shots. You need a T-ring adapter that screws into a 1.25 inch adapter that can be put into the eyepiece holder. The problem though is focusing with that setup. With my Zhumell, which is pretty much the same as the XT8, I need an extra tube attached to the 1.25 (like this, but they don't make a Fuji version: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083DDPN4W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) to get the right back focus to make the Moon look good.

    Specifically I connected my canon 7d markII to asiair plus, I put only RAW mode, and I activated the simultaneous writing on the canon sd card. For the darks and the flats, can't you just take x number of exposures with the cap on and save them as reference files? Same with the flats?

    • @AstroEscape
      @AstroEscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For a DSLR, no. For example, that night I mentioned how cold it was. Darks need to be at the same temperature as the light frames. So, using those darks in 4 months in June would be worthless since it'll be much warmer here. For a dedicated astro cam with cooling, yes, you can take them on a cloudy day and use them for the next 6 months. After six months it's a good idea to update the darks library because of changes in the sensor from use.
      For flats, it's good practice to do them during your session. This makes sure that any dust on the telescope/sensor is properly caught in the flats to help calibrate it out before you tear it down for storage and change the location of the dust.

    3:01 - If you have a USB2 camera - there is absolutely NO advantage in plugging it into a USB3 slot on the ASIAir... It will not transfer data faster or make any difference whatsoever. You are just wasting a USB3 slot which you could use for something else.

      That's a valid tip. But it's also not a bad idea to be in the habit of plugging into the 3.0 slot. That way when switching cameras, you always plug the main camera into the same spot and it is easy to remember in the dark.
