Curious to check for down pipes here with 'entry windows'... don't remember them in England but i probably didn't see many older properties. Must check some older homes here.

I really do not understand how the Aussie sewer systems work. There are so many openings and access points. At our home we have a clean out inside, one outside and one at the mains. All of these openings blow my mind.
These toilets are fascinating... narrow paths leading to a little "courtyard" with a door to a toilet. Never see anything like this in Canada, likely due to the extremely cold winters. All toilets would be accessed from within a house or apartment, even if shared.
Bad luck for the person who killed that cricket! Shit shelves, ghosts and questionable gravity. I hope you left bread crumbs to GTFO there! 👍👍 good job and thanks for sharing.
I'm in about the middle of the USA and am amazed at some of the plumbing I see on DA's videos. Here all the plumbing is inside and/or underground because it freezes nere. It looks like the sewer plumbing got installed there way after the buildings were built and some of the toilets that only open to the outside like this one. Not being critical in any way - just have never seen that before.
zalmaflash It‘ s just like in Germany where nearly all outside pipes have to be 3ft down in the ground because of the temperatures in winter. Or, as you said, are inside the house. Must be funny in Australia
I'm no longer amazed by the plumbing and drainage shown here - when there's no danger of freezing it seems you can get away with almost anything. Here in the southern UK even above-ground drainage freezing isn't an issue, although a couple of years back we had a long sub-zero spell and a lot of condensing boilers shut down because the installer had run the condensate drain externally without taking the proper precautions so it had frozen solid.
Drains and water pipes are commonly run on the outside of buildings here where freezing isn't an issue which is most of Australia. Up in the mountains where it snows and at the ski resorts buildings are probably plumbed a bit differently. Funny as it may seem there are many ski resorts in Australia and plenty of snow nearby them. The drains in this video were probably plumbed when the building was built.
Those seats appeared here in DIY chain Homebase when under Bunnings/Wesfarmers ownership during their disastrous foray into the UK. Bought the chain for £340m, got rid of the entire Homebase senior management team as soon as the deal was done, sold it two years later for £1.

You should get yourselves colored hoses, orange would be the right one. I see some other plumbers use blue colored ones and such...orange colored hoses it is than? :)
Hi from Canada. Wondering if you'd be willing to give a quick explanation of a residential plumbing layout. As a son of plumber, my father came from Scotland, I understand a fair amount about outside drain pipes etc. What I find confusing is the number of outside access points that you use. Here in Canada, there is a water shut off valve outside that is approx 8 ft deep, otherwise from the house to the sewer is a straight line with no access unless you go digging. (Within recent memory we had to have this line replaces because it collapsed after about 30 yrs.). You make mention of a "boundary trap". Is that a "one way valve" in the sewer line to prevent a backup into the house from the main sewer? I really enjoy our videos, but a little explanation (drawing) of how the plumbing is done in your country would be very helpful. Thanks.
Now that was a messy one. 🤢 As a garbage trucker myself, I hope my Australian colleagues don't have to haul those bins to the street and back themselves...
Oliver, I've got a mini hose reel design that is fully stainless with supports on both sides of the hub. This prevents the hose from coiling around the reel. I see u getting aggregated by this a lot lol. If ur interested hmu
Jonathan Naylor houses that were built before the sewer was connected had outside toilets called outhouses. They had a drum like tank under the seat that was exchanged by the nightsoil man . The outhouse was normally adjacent to a lane at the rear of the property, my next door neighbor still has one in the yard but now connected to the sewer, old relics of early Sydney.
In the mid-1990s, I'd heard of a few residences that still had outhouses in the Appalachians. But I don't think that was what you were talking about... :)
why is sewer drain still open in america .... we don't know that in the netherlands .. everything is neatly underground and of course also clogs but no open sewer bah bah therefore less trouble with root growth
This is Australia, they use a boundary trap so that sewer gases are unable to enter the residence's piping, allowing open connections that don't smell (too much). I suspect the practical purpose of this is so your drains can function for stormwater. This only works in places where rain is minimal of course. I would say its a bad practice though, because the boundary traps seem to be where most clogs form.

After watching many of these videos, it is typical for the toilet to be connected to the house via a door that's outdoors rather than indoors in Australia? If so, why? Signed, an American who's almost always seen toilets only indoors at homes
Most toilets in Australia are accessed from the inside just like in the US. A setup that is very common in Australian homes is to have the sink, shower, and tub in one room and the toilet separate in another room by itself. I'm American too but I've lived in Melbourne for the past 11 years.
