OMG. Steve, I'm 51 yrs old and have been dinking around on the guitar for probably 30 years. And I still suck. But I just watched 3 of ur videos and feel like I know approximately TWICE as much as I learned on my own in the previous 30 years. You are so good. Thank you so much
You have an amazing gift to be able to convey your ideas to allow us to understand. Although certainly music theory is a science, your explanations have allowed me to see it as a comprehendible science.
I listen to quite a few different utube information providersand I find your information is very easy in a sense to use and put into practice not to hard to follow and it does'nt seem to overtax simple minded individuals like myself . For me music is just something I feel I need for compleetion and I thank anyone who helps me on my journey and you do so thank you .
+ProAudioDVDs interesting points ,if anyone else needs to find out about online guitar course try Alkarno Amazing Guitar Alchemist (just google it ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my cousin got excellent success with it.
For the longest time, I trolled the internet looking for good lessons. Over time, I realized what I was really looking for was somebody who had the ability to teach in a way that kept me excited and wanting more. Steve is on a very short list of people who can do that.
I think you're a great and proud father. very patience. man you're amazing. a great teacher. you explain very well. Love your videos. easy to understand.
Maddi Murtaza I agree. I've been watching his videos all day. I've seriously learned more from 10 of his videos than i have playing for many years by ear. Also, greetings to Pakistan from Memphis. :)
Hey Steve buddie you have helped me tons, I'm an old burnt out old drummer did the whole road thing back in the 1990s(country band) but I starting playing guitar about 2 years ago . But then I run across you buddie I have learned more from you in 2 months, hey I have selective pitch haha, crazy ass guitar players blowing out my ears hahah. Anyway thanks. Love you man. Keep up the great work. We need you. Jim. Hammond Louisiana
I am just speechless with this very valuable lesson that I have never thought that this systematic is actually exist in the music. Amazing! Sometime we are as engineers are too arrogant.
Very well done Steve, these lessons are going to help many guitar players who want to learn music theory and expand their guitar horizon. You have an excellent teaching style. Thanks a bunch and keep it coming.
this is the best music theory and easy to understand, you're rock steve, thank you very much for creating a lot of video to guide us... may god bless you, from Malaysia
Wow yet one more surprising things from your videos. Usually "the talking" on guitar tuts used to be long and sadly boring n confusing. But you just kept my adrenaline rushing and makes everything way more interesting and relatable. Can't wait to master this.
I watched this video and 4 more that seem to be in order with the same goal. A basic understanding of playing by ear. This is what I need more than anything and I need it now. I've played guitar (acoustic mostly) and sang off an on for years. But I can't play by ear. I JUST CAN'T FIND THE NOTE OR CHORD on the guitar. When singing I can hear the note I need to hit in my head before I sing it and then hit it. But I have a very hard time "hearing" the note or chord when trying to find it on the guitar. When I have the sheet music I can learn the song and hear that it's right. I can also hear when something is wrong. But I can't just find the music on the guitar. I need help. I can become a better guitarist from lessons, practicing, etc. But "hearing"??? I don't know where to start. I'm enjoying your videos. I have gotten into the mastering the fretboard videos. Great stuff. If only I could hear you play the scales then play them without fretboard charts or watching your fingers. lol
Great...simply Fantastic. Thanks Steve. And thanks for the calluses on my fingertips... you are THE MAN! Keep sharing! I feel like I owe you a great debt. Many thanks!
Man thats it, you're officially my new official guitar teacher. I'll have to watch this one again though, cause I don't understand what those numbers refer to. I stopped music theory too early it seems :/
Great lessons steve. I have just picked up a guitar two years ago at the age of 42. Watching the lessons are helping me get on and not put it in the corner. I have one question I have started playing on a right handed guitar but I am totally left handed. Will it help if I switch to a lefty guitar after two years of playing a right handed guitar. Thanks Tim
I was wondering the same thing because he didn't really teach it. He did say though that the 1 chord is the key. So I figured out from the other things he said that if it's in the key of G, then G is the 1 chord, and C is the 4 chord because it's 4 notes ahead of G (if you include G), for example, G, A, B, C. Likewise, D is the 5 chord because it's 5 notes ahead of G, for example, G, A, B, C, D.
Love your lessons. I have to say I get more out of each one than I do out of my former $75/hr guitar instructor. Noticed you're playing a LAG. I love my LAG. Why is nobody else giving them any love? I have to say, I don't miss my $3500 Taylor too much when I play my $350 LAG.
Do you use the same idea of relative solfege to play across frets? The other option is to really know where the notes absolutely are which I find it difficult as a beginner
Instead of I-IV-V, I like to think of them as 1 -5 +5. A IV chord is really down a fifth from the root. A fifth from the root are the chords that sound the "best" or closest to the root. A fifth above is a V chord and a fifth below is a IV chord. (Circle of fifths way of thinking)
thank you Steve. im still only on the key progression theory i just want to know if you have minor key prgression lesson as i have learned the major key already. is it the same pattern on major key then you just gonna have start with minor? like on G Am Bm C D Em Fm. then what is the progression for example in the Em?? is it the same pattern? please help me many thanks!! youre greater than the great teacher 😁 greetings from dubai
Great lesson as always! Steve, could you please tell more about suspended chords? All of these sus2, sus4. I really like what guys from Dream Theater are doing and I know - they are using a lot of suspended chords in their songs. Just want to know more about this type of chords and how to use them to create something interesting. Thanks once again!

Hi sorry im new to chord theory, I can play a lot of chords but haven’t been taught the theory behind it. What do you mean by 1,4,5 chords?
I was wondering the same thing because he didn't really teach it. He did say though that the 1 chord is the key.
