I don't understand why people hate Gear 5. It IS Luffy. The very culmination of his being. Goofy, powerful and liberating. He's finally free to do what he wants! (Or so I think. I've only read up till the feast after the battle.)
A lot of those people don't hate Gear 5 specifically, they hate the way it was animated. Take this, for example. They re-used half an episode of animation just for Luffy fucking around before resuming his fight. And right before Kaido was snatched up, he was drawn with freaking CGI and it looked terrible. Then later on he looked like a damn oil painting with no actual outlines. They fumbled the reveal of Gear 5 and the ensuing battle by trying to do something different. Later in the fight where they get completely different artists on board and it starts to creep towards THAT episode of Naruto (we all know the one) it just leaves a sour note for a lot of fans.

It's literally in any gear 5 video or post. I don't think it being "chaotic" was the point, it's more of like an experimental thing with impact frames for them. Everything happened too fast that what's meant to happen kinda got lost in translation.
