    Bird MADE his teamates INTO HOFers.. his teamates said it, his opponents say it. Jordan WASNT doing that.. Jordan was more of an INDIVIDUAL talent. Bird is the better TEAM player.. and basketball IS TEAM game.. so who the goat? the individual or the TEAM guy in a TEAM game..

    goat for goat, bird over mj by a hair. birds first year took the 2nd worst team in the league from a 29 win season to a 60+ win season. the following year took them to the championship and won. and it was all bird so that team was bad argument doesn't hold up against bird. also, mj said the same thing about Larry being the white Jesus.

      Totally Agree…people always say the team thing, but have failed to actually do their research on the teams they did have starting out. Larry had no more help than Michael when he first started and still dominated the league, leading them to the title in year 2. Research, research, research.

    I take Mj and Bird 1a and1b. You are right it is a team but bird took the team to new heights and could pour it on even on his last legs. Bird hurt his back in 85 and injured it in practice in I think it was 88 or 89. 91 he had back surgery and had a piece of his disk removed to relieve pressure on a nerve in his back. Nobody in the nba before or after bird played with so many career ending injuries and came back to ball the way he did. That's why he gets so much respect from the players including Jordan because you could never rule him out. Bird always gave respect to great players even Lebron. Kobe was his favorite player and also Dirk. Here is what Chuck Daily said about Bird and the Celtics in a video.th-cam.com/video/sYtspZFtQMg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VV8u_eNbE-4m5I3K

    When Jordan had the better team and Larry was in huge decline with his back injuries. Jordan STILL couldnt get the win. Here’s something else to ponder regarding Larry Bird vs. MJ. The Celtics were 29-53 in 1979, the year before Bird joined the team. But the next year, after adding ONLY Larry Bird?: 61-21. A 32 game turnaround in 1 year by adding 1 player! That 32 game 1-year turnaround record still stands as the greatest 1-year turnaround in NBA history. And the NEXT year? 62-20, and an NBA Championship. Bird got his first championship in his 2nd year in the league! And the Eastern Conference was BY FAR the tougher of the 2 conferences. The Celtics had to go through defending champ Philadelphia 76ers, that had all-time greats Dr. J and Moses Malone on it, just to GET to the Championship series. It took MJ 9 years to win a title. Part of the reason is that Boston & Bird were in the way during the first half the that stretch.

  • @irishgrl
    @irishgrl 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Yes those were scratches. Larry has always been a target. All the teams wanted to get rid of Larry bcuz he was the heart & soul of the Celtics.
    The difference between Larry & Jordan is that Larry ELEVATED his team, Jordan DIDNT.
    Scoring isn’t a priority to Larry….WINNING is. And Larry was a WINNER.

    More than any other player, Larry Bird played hurt. The best example of course is against the Pacers when he fell, fractured his cheek on the floor, went to the locker room, allowing the Pacers to close the score & he came back out & dusted em with his face smashed. @@liltompop Bird's injured his back in 85. I hate it when they get the story wrong. He played 7 more years after he broke his back. Well kind of. In 89 he had a broken foot, both Achilles tendons ruptured and bone spurs on both feet so he only played 6 games that season then had surgery on both feet. His teammate Robert Parish said what he thought was so amazing is Bird refused pain pills, pain shots and pain blockers his entire career. There's a video of a final playoff game against the Pacers when Bird hit his face hard on the floor and got a concussion and fractured his cheek bone and ended up going back in the 3rd quarter because they were losing. They came back and won. But the night before that game he spent in the hospital in traction and they said he struggled to get dressed out for that game. Two videos I recommend is the 5 times Larry Bird was injured but refused to quit and the 4 times LB was hurt but showed toughness. It gives a person a whole new respect for Larry Bird. He was an amazing passer too. In a game he was one steal away from a quadruple double in 3 quarters. They were so far ahead he wouldn't go back in the game after his coach offered to put him back in. He's just different. Michael was up and coming. He got his era and dominated. Props to MJ for all of his accomplishments.

    Yes, they said teams, but Larry improved every team he was on. His college teams never really seemed to be in contention to get into any trophys. Bird made it a team effort. The following are the wins/losses for the years before and just past his time there. 1972 16-10, 1973 12-14, 1974 12-14, 1975 13-12. 1976 13-12, 1977 23-3, 1978 23-9, 1979 33-1 and 1980 16-11. Larry was there for the 1977, 1978 and 1979 seasons.
    And at his Springs Valley High in French Lick his senior season, Bird was one of the state's (and nation's) top players, scoring 764 points in 25 games for a 30.6 average and adding in 516 rebounds and 107 assists

    Bird in 1983 finished tied for 3rd place for the DPOY award. Bird led the league in defensive win shares 4 times and was 7 times in the top 5 in DWS. Bird was once 2nd in DRTG and was 6 times in the top 10 in DRTG. Bird was on 3 all defense teams ( 2nd team). Bird was not as good of a defender as Jordan but much better defensively than people want to give him credit for. I have Jordan over Bird and Kareem as my number 2 but after that = there are several players in the discussion and Bird is absolutely in that discussion. Bird went to a 29 win team as a rookie and with 1 player change to the roster in ML Carr, and a new coach in Bill Fitch, Bird was the main reason Boston won 61 games = a 32 game turn around and this was without Parish, or McHale, or DJ, or Ainge, or Walton!!! Bird won ROY by a large margin over Magic and was 4th in the MVP. For the next 8 seasons in the MVP = Bird was 2,2,2,1,1,1,3,and 2nd again. Bird was the first player to ever post a 50-40-90 shooting season, did it back to back (87 and 88) and was so close in 85 and 86 that if you total Bird's stats = Bird averaged 50-40-90 over 4 consecutive seasons!! No other "goat" is even close to that!!! Thanks

    magic top 3 over lebron. MaGIC IS A DOUBLE DOUBLE guy, near triple double guy and has the highest winning percentage in NBA history (Bird is 2nd). Magic also averaged over 2 steals a game. Lebron scores more and has more blocks, thats IT.. i'd take Kareem over lebron just cuz Kareem didnt load manage AND didnt air ball free throws. Kareem was a more dominant force than Lebron.

    Your missing the significance of the argument, Larry Bird beat MJ broken, Bird was competitive against MJ and usually beat him with injuries that would have benched or retired normal players. That is why I have Bird in my top 5, When you compare Bird to other players, remember, Bird played handicapped. Most players Bird was hurting the last half of his career, almost no one knew how bad until the dream team when they shared a locker room and Bird couldn't hide how bad he was physically. Bird.said he should have retired.in1988,89, " it's tough to run when you can't feel your feet. " Keep in mind, Bird did not.take.pain meds at all according to teammates, he wanted his.head clear when playing. Larry's teammates.on the dream team all have him in their personal top 5, Broken Bird, with a bad.back, head injuries, bad elbows, mangled hand, double achillies tendon injuries. In the end, Larry used his teammates.better than MJ to win. He could influence his.team better than almost.every.player you compare him too and his skills are superior across every category and metric, there are some.things that.someone might be better or.more.athletic than Larry, but no one is.consistently superior at almost everything like Bird. That is why it takes so many video about Larry to start to see why he is so good, particularly since he down played his injuries and how good he was, state padding and accolades were beneath him. As for IT, he was foolish in his youth, made mistakes and the consequences of them hurt, and he is a bit bitter, he was left off the dream team, he darned near lost his career, but for Larry smoothing over the controversy as irreverent, he damaged.his friendship with Magic irretrievably with betrayal and those mistakes haunt him to this day. He has been trying to make amends ever since. So yeah, he is a hater, but as bad as the bad boys were when playing against MJ, they did that to everyone it's just sometimes it.didnt work or teams like Boston could player their game too.
