It might not of seemed like so much fun when you were going through it. but it was an adventure and someday when you are older you will look back on this as the good old days.
*I've grown up half my life camping, dune buggy, motorcycle riding, water skiing, snow skiing, etc... figuring out how to get out of a situation when things go wrong is part of the adventure. I would have loved to have been on that trip with you.*

It's an amazing place. The last time I rode up there, was shortly before Brent bought it. I rode out the other side...into Death Valley. The road east is MUCH worse than the main road!

Here in the Pacific North West there are a few roads that are typically not clear of snow until between early June and mid July. Most of these roads they don't clear the snow from. It just melts away. These are some of the roads that attract riders into adventure riding. Living in the Portland Oregon Amanda is much more use to encountering snow.
Somethings to put this into perspective. Here in the greater Seattle Washington area we have already been over 80 deg F a few times this year. But one of my favorite roads that only reaches 4500 feet elevation only became snow free about a week ago. Last year that didn't happen until July. Also, I was invited to go backcountry skiing today. But in the fall most of these roads will remain open until between late October to late November. All of this does seem odd to many people from other parts of the USA.
Yup... Ice and snow and trying to balance a bike don't go well together.

Doodle, this is a comment referring back to your "Short Rider Tips" video. There are some lowering kits that don't negatively change the geometry of the motorcycle. Kawasaki even sells factory lowered bikes like the KLR650-S and KLR230-S Otherwise, sometimes a lower seat is available or it is possible to shave off some foam. There are also some kits that come with modified or shorter fork springs so that the front and back are lowered the same amount. This is how some manufacturers make "short" versions of their motorcycles. Sometimes the rear shock housing or spring is changed instead of using a lowering-link that might affect suspension feel. In addition, on some motorcycles it is possible to just move the triple-clamp down. This lowers the front of the frame to compensate for a lowered rear and maintains proper geometry.

All's well that ends well! Fascinating place and I love the concept of getting off the beaten path but you can only mitigate the risks you are aware of. I wonder if better planning/research would have spoiled the adventure or added to the enjoyment? Very interesting and enjoyable video at this end.

This is what Adventure riding is really like. It's rarely easy but it's always rewarding. Dropping the bike and breaking things is the norm.

Very nice! I never heard of this place before and my GOOGLE search says it's in California. You did not mention how cold it was there and how far the ride up to the Ghost Town. At least I don't recall but I am curious. I would not ride in those conditions now too cold and dangerous. Thanks

Spent a lot of time in country like that when I lived and patrolled in rural Nevada, actually just over the stateline in the neighboring county from the county you were in. So it’s the same land terrain.
It’s fun finding old mine sites. My area had thousands and thousands. BLM stopped counting big open holes at 5,000. Awesome you guys got to Explorer the Wild West while you were out here.
