    I love this hat… I tweaked it by using one strand and one dollar store skein…and I made the brim into a flap…. It has a 20’s look with the flap turned up Turned out amazing. Thanks a million 🧶

      Just curious, what size yarn/ hook did you use in your project?.. I just asked if I could use the pattern without doubling up the yarn, but would assume to use a bigger weight yarn like a five or six with a hook like a j or k.. I'm curious to see how yours came out without doubling up the yarn

    When I first started to crochet a little over a year ago I saw this pattern and I was like 😮 "I'll never be able to make this until IM REALLY REALLY GOOD!"..I'm working on my 5th one. Some variations I made, I extended the brim and added ear flaps, and around the border I just single crocheted some chenille just to bring it all together.. I added braids to the end of the ear flaps. One thing I noticed is this hat looks better if you do it one color and double it up of course.. one version I did rainbow yarn against black and it's kind of hard to see the detail of the front post doubles. 😊 Right now I'm working on a version for my friend who is Puerto Rican and I'm making it red white and blue and on the ear flaps I'm going to put star appliques with a peutro Rico flag 🧣 to match 🇵🇷🤔🔥⭐🗽#nyc #crochet #fashion happy crocheting 😊🤘

    I didn't understood if the row that you repeat 11 times is to have the double stitch at the begining. Could you please clarify?

    • @averyhart6863
      @averyhart6863 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm super late but I don't think you are supposed to increase, just maintain the amount of stitches from the last row. Hopefully that helps!

    • @elizabethpeacock7897
      @elizabethpeacock7897 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@averyhart6863 and now I'm super late too...I'm struggling to understand which part of the row makes the increase, and which part is responsible for making the front post dc go in a spiral.
      If I repeat that last row, but maintain the number of stitches, surely there's a stitch somewhere that I'm either not making (EG don't do the double hdc after the fpdc) or a stitch that I'm skipping from the previous row?

    • @lisavalon2533
      @lisavalon2533 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@elizabethpeacock7897 the half DC is what makes the front post DC look like a spiral when you do your increase row. The first round there's 2 hdc, then fpdc. The next round there's 3 hdc, then fpdc. Next round there's 4 hdc, then fpdc, etc, and when she stops increasing, there's 5 hdc then fpdc for 10 rounds. I needed to make my hat bigger so here's what I did:
      R1 18 DC in circle, slip st to 1st DC.
      R2 Ch 2 (does not count as a st), 2hdc in BLO in 1st st, FPDC in next, then repeat, you should end with FPDC, sl st to 1st hdc (27 st)
      R3 Ch2, 2 hdc in BLO in 1st st (mark the first hdc so you know where to sl st, it helps me), 1 hdc in BLO in next st, FPDC in next (it should be the FPDC st from previous row because the FPDC lines up), then repeat, sl st to 1st hdc (36 st)
      R4 Ch 2, 2 hdc BLO in 1st st, 1 hdc BLO in next 2 st, FPDC in next st, then repeat, sl st to 1st hdc (45 st)
      R5 Ch 2, 2 hdc BLO in 1st st, 1 hdc BLO in next 3 st, FPDC in next st, then repeat, sl st to 1st hdc (54 st)
      R6 Ch 2, 2 hdc BLO in 1st hdc, 1 hdc BLO in next 4 st, FPDC in next st, then repeat, sl st to 1st hdc (63 st)
      R7 to R15 Ch 2, 1 hdc BLO in next 6 st, FPDC, then repeat, sl st to 1st hdc.
      Then I made brim.
      In this video, she stopped her increase at R5, but I have a larger head and a lot of hair so I did an extra row of increase. And I only did 3 rows for the brim because of the extra row of increase, but YOU are the creator of your own project, so once you get the pattern down, you can make it as you like.
      Hope this helps... happy crocheting!

    Can you use the pattern without doubling up the yarn and get the same results? I would assume using a 5 or 6 weight yarn with a size hook of J/K would work better than the more common 4 weight and a size H/5mm hook?

  • @sandraimboden6660
    @sandraimboden6660 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Would like to have you do one more of your repeats, and also a stitch count at end of each row. I am slow and old too....not a great combo.

    • @lisavalon2533
      @lisavalon2533 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am the same way...here's the stitch count (starting out with 18 DC as round 1):
      R1 18 stitches
      R2 27 stitches
      R3 36 stitches
      R4 45 stitches
      R5 54 stitches
      R6-R15 54 stitches
      R16-R19 54 stitches
      I did another increase row, so I ended up with 63 stitches (my head measures 21 inches around). I only did 3 rows for my brim. Turned out nice.
      Hope this helps!

    My lines ( front post double crochet ) are straight not diagonal what did I do wrong ?

    • @jackyfreeman5530
      @jackyfreeman5530 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably you haven't done the increase in the number of stitches after the first 2 double crochets. The number of stitches increases by one each round, this is what makes the diagonal. E.g. 2:1. 2:2 2:3.

      It works just as well with a single strand of wool, so it's only half the cost !

  • @c-10cid75

    I'm confused, followed you till you said last round of increases but then you said to repeat that last round? So are we supposed to continue adding 2 hdc in first stitch or 1?

    • @averyhart6863
      @averyhart6863 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I think what they meant is you will maintain the amount of stitches, so you won't increase. Hopefully that helps!
