    Cricket is the 2nd most popular game in the world. The 2019 WC had an estimated viewership of 2.5 Billion making it one of the top 3 or 4 most viewed sports events of all time.
    The group stage match between India and Pakistan in 2019 WC alone had a record breaking viewership of 1.6 Billion which is 400 to 500 Million more than FiFa WC final 2018(which was 1.1/1.2 Billion).
    Overall Football is the most popular game as 2018 FiFa WC had viewership of 3.5 Billion. But Cricket isn't that far behind.

Average exit speed from a baseball bat (especial Al) will be higher...look up average bat speed. The seam pattern on a baseball is longer and hence occupies more of the overall surface area.

    The fielding positions aren't fixed like they pretty much are in baseball. There aren't enough players to cover the whole field, so they set up the field based on the batsman being bowled to, and the bowling style of the bowler. You can have fast bowlers, and they'll often have several fielders behind the batsman, in the hope that the ball will take a 'nick' of the edge of the bat, and will carry to them an be caught out. Other times you have slower bowlers, called spinners, who can make the ball change direction when it bounces. You would then have the fielders in much closer, hoping to catch someone out when they get deceived by the flight of the ball after it bounces, and don't hit the ball cleanly.

    The most important thing to remember about cricket is that it was not actually designed to be a properly competitive sport. It was an excuse for two nearby villages to spend a day in the Sun drinking and eating and competing only in a casual friendly way while most of the onlookers were not really paying much attention anyway and ending when they ran out of good light. You might hear this original form described as 'Village Cricket' Later attempts to force it into some sort of serious sport format have led to a rather strange game with very odd rules and 'win conditions'.

    There can be ties in some formats of cricket (many different formats - some last for 5 days and some last for 3-4 hours). Some tournaments (mainly leagues where there is a league table) will allow ties but some when there is a tie will go down to which team got the most wickets or, in some cases, a 'super over' will be bowled. This is where each team faces 6 balls and whichever gets the most runs from those 6 balls will win. I know that probably quite confusing but I hope that helps 😂😁.

    The positions are chosen by the captain, he can move the fielding team in or out where ever basically he feels will stop the other team scoring runs or where the fielders will most likely be able to catch the ball, dependent on the particularly batting player and his skills or what he has been producing with his shots in that particularly game. To be a great bowler, takes many many hours and days in the nets practicing. One of the best bowlers and one to watch is the late Australian "spin" bowler Shane Warne (recently passed suddenly at only 52). His ability to put incredible spin on the bowl, when he released it from his grip, often had the opposition players, those at the wickets, unable to read his bowling, this is why he was a brilliant taker of wickets and very exciting to watch

  • @michaelfink64
    @michaelfink64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The video leaves out some important aspects of he game. In particular, there are different forms of the game. The original form is the long format. When this is played between different countries, it is called test cricket, which lasts for up to 5 days. Each team has the opportunity to play two innings. The game can finish earlier than this once one side has outscored the other and got all the batsmen out twice. The next format is one day cricket, which takes about a day and is usually 50 overs (an over is when 6 balls have been bowled) per side. The next version is T20, in which each side has 20 overs to score their runs. For the shorter forms of the game, the team could be all out (10 wickets) before they get to 50 or 20 overs. The shorter forms of the game tend to have more big hitting and faster play, but many regard the traditional, 5 day game to be more intriguing and there can be ebb s and flows over time as one side gets the upper hand over the other.
    Yes, there can be ties, although these are very rare. There have only ever been twi ties in test cricket. Draws in test cricket are much more common. This occurs when neither team has got the other team out twice.
    The positions are a bit complicated. There is a wicket keeper, who stands behind the wickets (or "stumps") and catches the ball after it has passed the batsman, a bit like a short stop in baseball, except that he can get the batsman out by catching the ball after it has been nicked by the batsman, or by stumping - knocking down the stumps while the batsman is outside his crease. The crease is a line in front of the stumps that the batsman must be behind if the stumps have been hit. There can also be other feilders behind the wicket. There can be up to four who line up to the right (from their perspective) of the wicket keeper for a right handed batsman. Their main role is to catch the ball if it has been nicked by the batsman. Wide of them are the gulleys. The left side of the ground (from the batsman's perspective) for a right handed batsman is the on side and the right side is the off side. There is often a mix of players close to the pitch and those on the boundary.
    Yes, there are penalties, which are called extras and add one run to the batting team's score. The infringements include "no ball" when the bowler oversteps the line behind which he is supposed to ball and "wide" when the ball is balled outside the reach of the batsman.
    This is probably the best video that explains the rules: th-cam.com/video/AqtpNkMvj5Y/w-d-xo.html

    The fastest bowl ever delivered was 161.8km/h or 100.6mph. Proper fast bowlers, can bowl 20-30 overs (minimum 120-180 balls) in a one day game, and sometimes 300-600+ balls in a test game (over 5 days), at consistent speeds of 145-158km/h.
    And bowlers must bowl, they cannot throw/chuck the ball. That means simply speaking, their arm has to be straight during the bowling action, they cannot have a bent arm and then straighten in during the bowl, i.e. you cannot pitch like a baseball pitcher. But that also means it's less destroying of joints. A fast ball baseball pitcher might pitch 95-100mph balls but he isn't bowling for the entire 9 innings.

    A cricket match seldom results in a draw(tied game). A Batsman will continue to Bat until they lose their wicket, by get out in one of the eleven out decisions; once a team loses ten of their players(wickets) their innings is over, as a batsman can not bat alone(Always bat in pairs, called a partnership). Cricket has several different forms of the game, the Three most played forms are: First Class/Test matches, where each team will bat in two innings; and the game can last upto four or five days, this is the oldest form of the game. The other two forms are limited overs matches - ODI(One Day International) where each team plays one innings, in which they face a maximum of Fifty Overs(an Over is the deliver of six legal balls); as the name says, it lasts one day(approximately six hours of play). T20(A 20/20 match) where each team plays one innings, in which they face a maximum of Twenty Overs; this is the shortest form of the game, and generally lasts about three hours.

    There are ties as well. If a match is tied between both teams then, there is an extra over for both teams to play. An over consists of six pitches bowled by the bowler, like 6 deliveries. A World Cup final of 50 overs was recently played between England and new Zealand and the match has been tied. A super over was played and even then it was still tied, but England won it, since they have the most boundaries. The match usually ends with super over deciding the win, but in rare instances like this, boundary count is considered

    What makes the game exciting is that a strong position can change to a weak one in a single over (6 balls delivered) if more than on ewicket is taken. If a batter is going great, smashing the ball all around the ground, his team`s position can be made strong in about a single hour. After 6 or 7 wickets have been taken and more than 20-30 runs are still needed for victory, that is a very tense situation. Especially if you need more than 10 runs per over. That means they have to score boundaries (4 or 6) nas are liable to offer catches. The final outcome can be in doubt to the last over. The best batters are at or near the top of the batting-order. Bowlers are the last three in. They`re usually not so good at batting. At the end you can be batting for victory, or just to avoid defeat. So drawn matches are sometimes the most exciting.

    5:59 Yes, a match CAN end up in a tie but it depends a bit on the format
    Cricket has three major formats, Test(the 5-day matches), ODI(an 8 hour match) and T20s(a 3.5 hour match)
    In Tests, a tie is a tie and it just ends there and is done as a form of respect to the opposition, who played just as well as they did, as well as other circumstances
    In ODIs and T20s, however, after a tie, both sides play a Super Over and the winner of the Super Over wins the whole thing

    It is possible to score more than six runs, but it takes shambolic play to happen. E.g. batsmen could run three, the fielding team throws at the stumps but fails to run out a batsman, and the ball rolls over the boundary - 7 runs.
    Penalties - if a bowler oversteps the line or bowls the ball out of the reach of the batter, they concede a run and the delivery is not counted as legal, so must bowl it again. Runs scored off no balls still count. If the ball hits a piece of equipment on the field (most commonly a helmet behind the wicketkeeper, which he or a close fielder otherwise wears when standing close to the stumps), they concede 5 runs. Batsmen don't concede runs but can be given out for obstructing the field. Fielding teams can concede runs for slow over rates.

    Ties are possible. Rare in 2 innings per side matches, and uncommon but more likely in limited overs cricket.
    The ball in a men's cricket match typically weighs 156 grams (5.5 ounces), and in women's it's 142 grams (5.0 ounces). Children's games usually use a 142 gram ball.
    Seriously, look for T20 Cricket. That's the... gateway into loving the game. First Class Cricket is the pinnacle, but I think too long for Americans wanting to learn about it.
    We don't use the term "outfielder" in Cricket. In Limited overs, there is a fielding circle 30 yards from the pitch. Depending on the time of the innings, there are allowed to be either 2, 3, 4 or 5 fielders outside that circle.
    I seriously hope you watch some cricket highlights and get into enough to watch more and more and develop an appreciation, if not a deep love for it.

    Cricket is like baseball except something actually happens unless it's a Test series! If you want to get into it just stick to T20 which is much faster and higher scoring. There is also T10 but that hasn't really taken off apart from in non cricket playing countries in Europe. Do not bother with The Hundred though because that would just encourage it to continue and it has no right to even exist! The T20 World Cup is starting in October which will feature the best and hardest hitting players in the world so you should check it out if you can. Btw theres a TH-cam channel called 'Cricket For Americans' which would be right up your street and the two regular hosts know more about cricket than a lot of cricket fans I know! Oh, and if you have Prime Video theres a fantastic drama series called Inside Edge which is about the power and greed and corruption surrounding cricket in India, where cricket is practically a religion!

    To tie it’s almost impossible because you have the number of balls bowled. There is not just one bowler on a team you can have any number of bowlers I think, this is because normally there is to types of bowling a fast bowler (self explanatory) and spin bowler, normally the spin bowler bowls slower but imparts a fast spin on the ball using the the crease line on the leather ball where the two halves are stitched together. You saw one on your video where the ball hit the ground and bounced in a slightly different angle towards the wicket. Each bowler has six bowls at the one wicket trying to get whichever batsman is there at the time. When the six bowls are up another bowler takes over from the other end having his six bowls. These six bowl are called an Over so if the totals are equal they also count the number of overs it has taken to get each teams total so the least number of overs is the winner. Oh! A test cricket match is run over a max of five days not over one day.

    • @malcolmrowe9003
      @malcolmrowe9003 ปีที่แล้ว

      No maximum number of bowlers (apart from the number of players; I think I've even seen a sticker keeper of their gloves to bowl an over or two),. However, most limited overs cricket is structured to require a minimum of four or five. bowlers, assuming all overs are used. In test cricket (5-day matches with two innings of unlimited overs per team) , you could potentially have all of a team's overs bowled by just two bowlers but they would end up completely exhausted, probably before the end of the first day.
