Speaking of classics, will we get a longplay of the translated PC CD _Ys IV: Dawn of Ys_ next? I know it was declared non-canon in favor of _Mask of the Sun_ on Super Famicom but _Dawn_ seems to have inspired more things in _Memories of Celceta_ than _Mask_ did.
This raises an interesting point, one that I've realized only recently with the rise of remakes. If I ever feel the need to revisit a classic that has a remake I always just want to play the original.
There's something very charming about the cutscenes with the girls' awkward thousand yard stare and English voice acting. It's not bad actually. This is probably the definitive version of these two games.
This game was a watershed moment in the video game industry’s history. I remember seeing a display of this game at Toys R Us in 1990 and even young me knew this was the future of gaming in regards to the production values which blew everything away on the home console market.
After seeing the name in passing for years, this was my first exposure to the series when it came to Wii Virtual Console. No other version comes close. It's strange how understated this series is in the US despite its several entries, many of which landmark releases. I can't even rightly explain why it's so magical, but somehow it easily hooked me to the end.
Haven't played the PC Engine CD versions of *_any_* Ys games, however these seem to be the ones that are mentioned the most. Might look into them after I finish Ys 1 (Master System) and play the Famicom ports.
Easily the best version of _Ys_ I and II, even after the remakes. The music is just awesome and the gameplay is so much smoother compared to the SMS port of Book I and the NES version of Book II. Not to mention the text isn't isn't in the stilted Ye Old English of the former port and is so much easier for a child to understand.
Have you played the PC Engine CD version on Cotton Fantastic Night Dreams? If not you should give it a try. Also there's high quality remixes of the arcade music but only the JP release has actual voice acting.
Didn't you already play these games on this channel? I'm not complaining and I totally understand replaying the games. Just checking. I plan on replaying Ys Book I&II a this time one of these days. I actually like the Steam version (chronicles) more.
Yeah I did. The old one was pretty blurry, though, and I did a better job of streamlining everything this time. This recording is more complete than the old one while also being about an hour shorter.
Nice. Good work! I love Ys. I thought about playing through Ys 1 and 2 before playing Ys X when it's released in the USA. I might not be able to with all of the other games coming out and I've been playing old nintendo DS/3DS games.
As much as I love Falcom's newer remakes, the TurboGrafx version of Ys 1 and 2 is still my favorite way to revisit these classics.

@@ernestlemmingway1124all the YS! ❤
@ernestlemmingway1124 Yup, I've recorded both Dawn and Mask.

What a totally unforgettable classic. Nothing wrong with the other versions, but this one has a special place in my heart.
This intro music blew my 11 year old mind. Ys III had even BETTER intro cinematic music. So many Turbo CD games had such great soundtracks.

They got some top tier voice actors for this one.

Two things elevate this version over Eternal/Chronicles. The save data continuation from 1 to 2, and the music.

I actually played this when it was on the Wii Shop. Didn't regret it!

I really enjoy this series, Ys , Dragon Quest then Final Fantasy for favorite RPGs.
They're way up there for me, too.

"A Country where children was free as the wind". They boogered that one.
Ouch. It sounds like someone didn't bother paying attention in high school English.
No, he said “children *were as* free as the wind.” “Were” and “as” were said pretty fast, so it sounded like “was.”
That's not what it sounded like. If it is compressed that should have been caught by quality assurance. I get it, if you love the game.
Thank you very much...

1:54:22 it's so cool.
The item find music sounds like the Metroid item find music. Given Nintendo's tendency to copy music, I'm guessing they listed theirs from this game?

@@1DangerMouse1Thanks! 😊
one of the few jrpg where i prefer english dub
are you planning on doing chrono cross anytime soon?
So in the final boss you just keep next to that thing instead of bumping on it?
The walking animation against the wall lets you bump as long as you're touching the enemy.
