hello I processed the photo thru the werb site IMAGR (link is in the description) after that you need to make sure to have your laser focused "spot on" It take some time and patience to get it dialed in but once you do it's well worth the efforts
The Sculpfun is a great laser and you can do a variety of cool projects with it, but the work area is small 130mm x 130mm. (5"x5") Take a look at the video I did on the Longer Ray 5 laser. Bigger work area 400mm x 400mm (15"x15") though you won't have the filtration etc. that the Sculpfiun has.
2 questions for you Brian. On the ornament, you were able to cut the edges through but the name in middle is only lightly engraved - How is that possible? My second question is, were you able to connect this to your computer? Right now I can only seem to connect to mobile due to the Mac software being "damaged"
With light burn you would set one layer as Line. (which is cut). And the other layer fill (this would be etch). You'll need adjust setting based on your laser for cutting and how deep an etch you need
If you're new or working with new materials it's always best to do a material power/speed test. Each laser can be different For slate I run about 1500 speed/85% power Leather was 2500 speed/ 50 power for the engrave and 500 speed/90% power in one pass. Wood for engrave 1500speed and I vary power depending on how deep I want to etch. To cut wood 400 speed and 95 power 1 to 3 passes. You really have to make sure you focus the laser also for any material You won't be able to do much with steel or metal with a diode laser.
It's certainly not easy. Water it down slight and Pply multiple layers. I trying out and air brush to apply it also. I have had success running the acrylic on top of a piece of black poster board from the Dollar store. For the 5watt Sculpfun I ran it at 3200 speed and 35% power for that and the Tempera

How do you tell the software what to engrave and what to cut? Are you using lightburn?
Yes Lightburn. I set my cut layer in red and then etch in blue or black
can you engrave on Stainless steel or aluminum?? thank you
You should be able to do both you'd need to work on what speed and power works for both though again for metal a fiber laser is going to work better

And yes it connects via USB cable to my laptop or pc
What are your settings to cut through the wood?

My wife have me one for Christmas. Still wrapping my head around the settings. Please, what settings do you use for the slates, leather, and metal?

I'm sure what project your asking about? With light burn software you set layers some are cut layers others are etching layers if that helps?
Like went u cut the wood out what sittings you use

Just an update finding that I get better results with black poster board and it a heck of a lot easier then applying paint
I diluted the paint and put it on fairly thin and got good results. I was afraid I would get broen marks on the scrylic from burning card stock.

I use imagr to process the. photo (link in description) and then make sure your focus is good
