So nice to see and hear a regular guy restore something. I am over these almost robotic guys that clearly copy each other, turns me off! Thanks for the human touch.
When trying to break those stuck blades loose, depress the closed blade first. The spring should give, and allow the blade to move just a bit. That should make it easier to pull it open.
One of the most harrowing videos I've seen to date. My God, how much agony with that knife locked away... Congratulations on moving on! Cheers from Brazil 🙏
I found an old pocket knife metal detecting and it was RUSTED. I just toik my time like you and finaly got the bladeas open. From that point, i was good. Great video, it really helped me in my process.
I think I would have washed both 8n hot soapy water, then soaked them in oil before I went any further. I need to go to a flea market now but I’m not ready for that much rust. You did a great job staying with the restoration. Thanks.
When blades are that rusted best to put on flat bit of wood spring side down and tap blades with branch then soak in vinegar interesting video greetings from the uk 🇬🇧 🇮🇹🦊🐾
That was quite a project!!! I felt myself struggling with you to get the knife to open!! They look great… most importantly, they’re sharp!! Great job!!
Well I guessed right. I thought either imperial or Sabre. Have to give you credit. Don't think I'd went thru that for the Zep knife but would love to have the imperial. I'm amazed how sharp they were
The kabar turned out to be a good looking little knife. Have to admit I didn't know they made small folders like that. Not sure when it was made 60s,70s maybe even 80s
TY Bro!! :]..much appreciated..glad I hung in there for sure ..pretty rewarding to see them back in business :] Happy Holidays to you yours as well take care Bud
I love it when you do these videos man!! Also, the background music is awesome! You had me going there for a bit when you switched the knives :) Tremendous transformation!! Thanks buddy!
I have a very old Schrade 3 blade pocket knife that belonged to my grandfather and he used it as his work knife- i think it was bought between 1920 and 1940- on the medallion it says Old Timer- the main and middle blades are badly worn i'd say 75% gone #3 blade was hardly used- i was going to send it back to the manufacture to get new blades but they said NO- and they would keep it and sell me a new one- so i kept the old one and told Schrade what they could do with themselves lmao- ive probably spelt the company name wrong
Slightly used on eBay lol 😂 good job bro. I have recently picked up a few American made old timers that look like that. I have yet to try and clean them up yet tho.
There is penetrating oil that will dissolve rust on contact available at auto parts stores. Liquid wrench and kroil dissolve rust on contact. WD40 is worthless
Oxidation...Probably someone just left it outside in the elements. Metal surfaces with Iron don't do to well when water or moisture is Present for long periods of time.
Hi new subscriber 👍🏻do you sharpen them to use them? I’m starting out with old pocket knives I got from friends. Can you buff the blades to shine more? I use a Dremel to clean them but it does scratch the blades so I use 1000 grit then a little polish, I’m a total amateur lol so I’m learning but it’s fun just for me. Thanks 🎄Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks for the Sub Durango I appreciate it. I'd start by getting any of the crud out out from under where the blades set...you can use canned air or maybe a pipe cleaner, then go over it with some mineral oil use a old t-shirt or something...you might find you like the look of it after a light cleaning. If not us can use a dremel and abrasive discs to polish more...then get a sharpening stone and learn how to use it (lots of vids on TH-cam for that) Best of luck with your Knife!!

Hey Thanks a lot! I really appreciate that :]👍...thanks for watching the Vid!

😄 he he...that was an agonizing process for sure! ...thanks for watching! Cheers Bud!
Maybe add Baking Soda to Vinegar for 1st step, then the oil to pull them apart.

That's so cool...good to hear you persevered 👍
My Dad’s knife was like the black knife. I know he had it in the 50s for his pipe cleaning and whittling.
That's Very Cool Cynthia :] Thanks for Sharing

Cool..Thanks for Watching Carlton and best of luck at the Flea-Market 👍🙂
Great job D&R! You're gonna have to ask Santa for some Evapo-Rust! I would be happy to carry that Ka-Bar, pits and all!
TY Bud!...yes indeed.. That Ka-bar might my next EDC...I'm going to write a letter to Santa and hope for the best :]
Try soaking the knife in liquid wrench or maybe PB Blaster for a couple of days.

Heat and Vibration!
I appreciate that you didn’t give up on the Zeb knife. 😊🐊
I appreciate you watching..TY👍
A good couple day soak of Vinegar right off the bat imo
Penetrating oil is my go to. I spray knife down and put it in a bowl (Just to catch run off) for couple hours. Never failed me yet.
Good info..Thanks Grizz!....need shop for some pentrating oil for sure :]
Agree, penetrating oil does the trick every time.
WD-40.. works miracles
That was quite a project!!! I felt myself struggling with you to get the knife to open!! They look great… most importantly, they’re sharp!! Great job!!
Thanks Much appreciated Dave!! 👍 .. sorry to put you through all that hehe :] 😄
Turned out to be real dapper after all
Coca Cola is a great rust remover too. For future projects. I hope you managed to get that one open and clean!
Thank you!! ...I have used Cola to de-rust before and it does work...your right 👍
A fairly effective alternative to evaporust is pine sol. Heard it from an older fella once. I tried it in an ultrasonic cleaner like you have.
Very Interesting!..TY...I'll have to look into trying that in the future...appreciate the info :]
I use it in cleaning surgical steel that needs to be sterilized. Murthy’s soap or pine-sol work well on cleaning metal.
Kerosine
I'd have probably started by throwing the Zep knife away. Kabar is pretty interesting
Nice job! They were toast!!!!!
He he :] TY Buddy!!
Nice
Excellent job. Like the way you didn’t give up.
Thanks a lot Much appreciated!...had to see it through for sure :] ...TFW!!
Well I guessed right. I thought either imperial or Sabre. Have to give you credit. Don't think I'd went thru that for the Zep knife but would love to have the imperial. I'm amazed how sharp they were
You definitely need to invest in a gallon jug of evaporust

I've got that old kabar, inherited it from my father who always carried a pocket knife with him, even though he was an accountant.
Very Cool!👍👍..and thanks for watching the vid!
You should’ve just used evapo-rust on them both and it would’ve worked better with far less effort and sanding.
Great job
TY Julio👍
Move a little and oil and repeat
Cool. Great job! I couldn't believe you got them looking that good or even open at one point. Right on!
TY Riprock!...I appreciate it Man :]
Your best bet is Evapo-Rust
I'm gonna get some eventually 😁 TFW Gary
I think evaporust would have worked well in this case.
For sure👍...I'm just to cheap to go Buy it...I will give it a try one of these days :]
For as rusty as they were they turned out ok. took some serious scrubbing to get them there Great video
Thanks Buddy... I'm glad I didn't give up... lol frustrating at times.. but felt good at the end to get a usable knife 😁
Well done brother! You stuck with them and brought them back to life. Happy Holidays! Great camera work too.
TY Bro!! :]..much appreciated..glad I hung in there for sure ..pretty rewarding to see them back in business :] Happy Holidays to you yours as well take care Bud
Nice save!
Again an increase in service life.
Yes indeed TY Bro 😁 👍 feels good to get them back to work again 🗡️🛠️
@@DirtandRust Back to service.
He he ..yes back to service for sure
I KNEW that zep knife was an Imperial. They always did the scales that way on their cheaper knives. I'd like to know how they got that rusty.
Good catch Joe👍 I got them together at the Flea-market ...I wonder what their story is as well.
I love it when you do these videos man!! Also, the background music is awesome! You had me going there for a bit when you switched the knives :) Tremendous transformation!! Thanks buddy!
Thanks KD!! Much appreciated Bud:] he he:] I was wondering if lil trick would work :] Thanks for watching Take care
Go get Blaster ...It is an Oil Treatment ...Better then WD-40 ...
Thanks 👍 I'll check it out 🛠🔨🔪

Em casos desses eu costumo desmontar a faca, pôr todas as peças com vinagre, lavar com soda, afiar, polir e montar tudo de novo.
Yes for sure...at the time I didn't have the confidence to take the pins out and reassemble...I think I can do it now though :} 🤞
Colonial/ Imperial is you advertising knife even with all those you've shown in past ??
Did you degrease them before putting them in the vinegar bath? The WD40 will protect the rust, preventing the vinegar from doing its job.
Good Call! I don't think I did degrease...need to remember that for next time :]👍
@@DirtandRust I typically start with dish soap and hot water to degrease and remove any dirt, then vinegar, then oil and scrubbing. Cool videos 👍
Is that white vinegar?
Its just cheap white Vinegar..I buy it by the gallon at the grocery store👍
@DirtandRust ok thank you, I'll give it a try
You'd have been better off with white vinegar and baking soda........for initial soaking
Slightly used on eBay lol 😂 good job bro. I have recently picked up a few American made old timers that look like that. I have yet to try and clean them up yet tho.
LOL..Hey Bud!...thank you!! Long time no see..hope your doing well...best of luck on those Old timers :]
Can you not heat it up to loosen the sprjng
Oh this is a old video 😂
Evaporust
A Super penetrating oil by the name of Free All works well on the joints, not sure about how it will effect plastic.
Thanks for the tip...i'll keep that in mind for the next project👍
Kroil penetrating oil, Bro!
Would you sell the k bar
If so how much
Sorry Bud🤐... it's a keeper 🗡️🛠️
@@DirtandRust ok
Thank for. The video they are good keep it up
